  • this song was done for Dr.KING the day of the march on Washington in 1963

  • the tenors are doing it....

  • Y'all betta MARCH IN why don't you!!!! YEAH LAWD!!

  • I miss the Chior march

  • Wow! That takes me way back!!!! We are so in a hurry theses days that we can't even take the time out to praise God! That's OLD SCHOOL 4 YAH! Luvz it!

  • I totally agree. I love the processional. It sets the atmosphere.

  • So glad that we got Darryl Houston back at Historic St. James !

  • the organist keeps that tune rocking the whole time they are marching in

2:00 and 4:40 lol the choir director keeps things in line!!

  • there...is... nothing... like a trad gospel choir. and they coulda taken 30 minutes to walk in, it was great!!

  • growing up in my church, we had to raise our hand when we left or entered the sanctuary.

  • My church choir still to this VERY day march's I love it!! Lol

  • Awesome!!!

  • that soprano took me in at 5:43...I knew I was in church

  • What ever happen to the choir marching? I miss that! I want to march in LOL! I am feeling that for real. That was the thing back in the day.

  • This takes me back to the "good old days" with Bishop William Morris "Pope" O'Neal! Fantastic.

  • o my jesus they spent most of the video marching in ....but my God when they made it in....

  • Sha-ta-la-bo-sha!!!!!!!

  • raising the right hand to enter or leave service while it is in session is an african american tradition. it symbolizes respect ,permission an honoring the creator

  • in african american churches in the 20's thru 60's raising the right hand was a tradition all over america. this church still upheld the tradition into the 80's. you still see it in some african american churches today. whenever you had to enter or leave during service you had to raise your right hand while walking. my mother and grandmother got all over me for not doing it one sunday when i had to go to the bathroom during service. the other church members told them and boy did i here from them

  • Some of the contemporary is a miss with me too.

  • I have been playing the Organ for all my life and I can this is what I like. I love traditional Gospel/Spiritual Music .. this brings back a lot of memories .. I'm not a fan of modern contemporary Gospel Music. I'm old school ... this type of music will move you !!!!

  • Nice Video, why do they march in with their hands up? What does it symbolize?

  • That's a old school thing. That means an elevated heart and hand to Christ. It's like at the end of service when you raise your hand for the benediction. The left hand behind you is what the ushers tend to do called service position.

  • nothing, it just looks good.

  • @Joantaatlanta just a symbol of the faith and part of their choir march...every choir is different...some jus march with hands to the side or with their hands behind their back.

  • Wow!! I love the march. It's sacred and symbolic of the Saints as they go marching in to see Jesus. Praise Him saints!!

  • the processional: ha!!!! ole school baptist 4 real!!!

  • was that ms izora who was the last choir member walking on the choir stand? by the way she is one of my favorite singers fron this church also ms pat.

  • is she still singing that high soprano? i hope soooo!!! i love her range

  • I can remember when I was living in Detroit in 76-79 .Burnet Baptist could sing like this.

  • i don't care what you say you can't beat real church music or shall i say sunday morning music that the choir can march in on with there heads lifted high and ready to give God there best let the church say AMEN.

  • I agree! I miss that great sound!!!

  • I remember when choirs used to spend half of the choir rehersal practicing "The March".

  • this was ST. JAMES BAPTIST CHURCH in DETROIT, when the church was located on MT. Elliott @ Pulford, Andre Woods moved REVIVAL TABERNACLE into this building after St. Jamnes move to Van

    dyke

  • Thank You!! Whoever uploaded this choir, I thank you! This definetly takes me back to when I was a youngin. I can't get enough of this Choir! Praise God!

  • this is at bishop andre woods church in detroit!!!! thats bishop on the organ!! teaching the young boys how its really done!!

  • Man this takes me back to when I was a Kid.... Granda Ma feeling the Sprit.... me fanning those Fans....

  • where is this Church located?

Im looking for a good choir to join!!

  • I dunno who this is but they are good, and a little bit they remind me of growing up in First church Of Deliverance. I really don't remember NOT knowing this song.

  • Wow, does this song take me back! This was the march in song for the Combined Choir of Christ Tabernacle MBC on the 4th Sundays, where Rev. Brunson was our pastor. Taking me back when our church was on Madison Street in Chicago. Love it!

  • Where is this church? They r marchin. Go on saint's and marchin on in. Praise His name.

  • Detroit

  • badprecher I was there when Zion used to do fellowship with st. james. Man talk about preaching, singing and churchin' it was nothing like it. S.L. was the truth!

  • mt. zion or zion hope?

  • God, I remember the march,,man, the holy ghost came in the minute they started marching...

  • i need a copy of this on dvd in my tape libary

  • St. James was/and is, through their videos, a mighty church and choir. I miss Rev. Nicks and JD also. One day St. James will be back on top; just you wait and see.

  • Top of what? There is no competition in Christ. God used them for a season and people were blessed by their ministry.

  • God is still using the St. James Ministry!! people (myself included) are still being blessed by these songs of zion!! this type of Gospel will last until the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • I was brought up in St. James and consider myself a St. James Baby. This is truly a blessing for me to watch and see so many people on video who were and are still a part of my life. My mom Eleanor Green, Uncle Edward Daniels, cousin Izora Hollingsworth were all part of this great tradition. Rev. Nicks was my heart, he baptized me and married me 22 years ago and JD will never be forgotten. Congrats to Rev. Argustus Williams and 1st Lady Iva June of Historic St. James for keeping the legacy

  • There's Shunna behind Jay coming in. Directress EXTRAORDINAIRE!

  • i dont think the spirit or the holyghost is gon because if u put the same choir on aprogram it will sound just as good 2day. The difference is the church let the pastor lead an no the church wants 2 lead n thats not what Rev. Nicks was about 1 thing i no he taught was order n sticking 2gether as a family and the opposite is being done Rev is turning in his grave at this mess splits and carrying on. Bishop J. A. JENNINGS JR. is here because we voted him n 4 change now its changed

  • What's the old saying; be careful what you ask for,for you just might get it.

I grew up on Mt.E and Pulford.Straight up Dyed in the wool stone cold ST.James/Rev.C.H. Nicks jr apologist.

But there had to be a new day even in St.J.

This is Y God Created something new from day to day 7.

I'll never forget my home and history, but I can't have God Leaving me behind, either.

  • see this is church... not to many choirs march in like this anymore more. my church choir march but not like this.*tapping my feet as I type*

  • lets go back one day to the old church days

  • i remember this as boy when my father did revivals at st. james and mt. zion with rev nicks and s l jones

  • I don't care where you go, what you say or do, TRADITIONAL CHURCH MUSIC REIGNS SUPREME!

  • @vocalvessel

AMEN - AMEN - AMEN. I am the minister of music of a church in Birmingham, Alabama, and I don't care how "up to date", "modern", "Contemporary", etc your choir may be. NOTHING gets in the house like a good old Traditional Gospel Number!!!!

  • @vocalvessel Amen I agree with my minister we all need some hymns in our lives. There is Too Much contemporary garbage in churches and no one is singing or teaching the youth or adults about the meaning of the hymnals and when you are needing a word and can't get to the bible how the hymns keep you grounded.

  • @vocalvessel yes it is

  • Wow, how many choir members are there?

  • My aunt's church on Detroit used to march in on this version of this song.

I wish our choirs still marched in. It adds to the service

  • this how u have church lol

  • who is playing the organ?

  • That's sho nuff good church when the choir used to march in.

  • I wonder if Bruised...But not Broken Out-reach ministry can get these people back together again?

  • The lady that hits the bottom left corner of the screen at 1:05 is Luticia "Pat" Davis. One of the SINGINEST, SQUALLINGEST people I have EVER heard.

  • She so-nuff is! Off the chain!

  • I remember....people don't march into church like this anymore. I miss that....I love this video.

  • You better hit that note!!

  • The GREAT Izora Hollingsworth!

  • detroit gospel is know for the organ play that

  • In the old days, the custom of raising your right hand while you entered a church or marched in came from Elder Lucy Smith's Pentecostal Church. It was a sign that you had accepted Christ and were saved, as opposed to being a spectator or visitor.

  • Also, at First Church in Chicago, it represented placing your hand in God's hand, in reverence and humility. By the way, First Church and Elder Smith's church historically were two of the first churches of color to broadcast over the radio in Chicago.

  • But ya'll hear that FULL SOUND of St. James?? That sound, along with that organ, and just havin church.....that's just what they're known for. I Love It!

  • Walk it Uncle J.D! LOL!

  • A prayer has been answered...This took me down..And when Zora rang out all I could do is waive my hand..If we are not careful church like this will only be a memory..

  • Sorry to say, but it's already a virtual memory! Church is big business and is now treated as such, thus the annointing is being stripped away! And while our choirs continue to carry the same classic sound that ONLY Detroit can produce, there is still a lifestyle that we christians KNOW is against the will of God! Until we all deal with this sad fact, we will continue down a slippery slope! Ok, I went soap box and waaaay off topic, but I believe in saying what God lays on my heart. God bless!

  • I understand your concern, for I too miss those services such as this. I experienced these services in Chicago at First Church and Fellowship, however. Nevertheless, we must encourage each other to always go forward in faith with our eyes on Jesus. Big choral sounds, lifestyles, fashion, order of services, etc, will all pass away. But God never fails, and the best is yet to come. God knows our hearts, and rewards those who diligently seek Him.

  • mRTYRONEB YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD.

  • Thank you, Sir/Mam! God sees all!

  • This was written by Rev Clarence H Cobbs in 1936, written for the First Church of Deliverance here in Chicago, this song sounds so good, Lord have mercy

  • This does sound amazing! This is First Church's theme song. It's choir of 250+ voices, back in the day, would march in just like this, with Fred Nelson, Jr. or the III, wearing the Hammond organ out. And when they came on the air with their weekly broadcast singing this song, you knew something extraordinary was about to happen in that "Hour with Jesus", as Lucius Hall, one of the announcers, would call it. We can thank God for these memories, and the great spirit of Rev. Nicks.

  • MARCH IT OUT CHOIR MARCH IT OUT!!

  • i have question. why did they have there right hand raised while they were marching?

  • Not sure.....maybe MARCELL77 can be more specific, but its just as the same as when u raise ur hand during the benediction, determining what denomination you come out of.........

  • Oh Lord y'all marching! I love my city Detroit! Thanks for posting. You have some great stuff!
