  • back in da days gumby made books seem cool...but then mario came out & gumby & his books got kicked to the curb

  • @fawks311 yea

  • 3:50

  • In Ocarina of Time when the Fire Temple music played with the chanting, it always, ALWAYS reminded me of 4:50-5:24

  • Classic man just perfect and then Pokey says to Gumby no thanks......... I prefer grass

  • wow I almost even couldn't get through the video. As soon as I heard "I didn't know Indians ever got lost" I was half LMAO and 1/2 like WTF?!?

  • Wow, I used to watch "Gumby" back in the '50s and this is the first I've seen of him in since then. Concerning the stereotyping: It was not done out of malice, just ignorance. Much of what we now accept as true about the First Nation people was just not commonly known back then. Considering this, Gumby was fairly enlightened.

  • to this day i am terrified of kachinas and native american chanting!

does anyone remember the gumby episode that involves beavers(?) making a dam across a river (they were patting the dam with their tails), and gumby and someone else putting carrots through some sort of contraption, and some type of animal saying "too late, too late" over and over. this sounds insane but my sister remembers it, too. this was from the original gumby, not the heinous remake.

  • this episode scared me too, probably because as an australian kid i wasnt very familiar with native american culture and the quality of these older episodes can make sounds seem atonal at times

  • Most every day I pass an enjoyable set of kachina sculptures along Cherry Creek whose backdrop is a wall of cascading water that remind me of this particular Gumby episode from the Fifties. Just wanted to see what I remember.

  • ok this is a kids show. please dont cuss its completely unesssessary

  • Didn't they used to show Gumby on nick?

  • I <3 Gumby, but none of it makes sense!!!

  • Yeah, I never realized how trippy Gumbi shows are.

  • for real this show is mesmerizing

  • gumby goes in the book first but it shows the indian coming into the book first

  • No more offensive than the Cleveland Indians or the Washington Redskins.

  • ps.

    1:32

lol. pokey was lazy as fuck.

  • I'm native american but only about 25%, i remember seeing this episode as a kid and instantly being intrigued by the culture and I immediately wanted to learn everything about my distant relatives.

    I love this episode.

  • gumby ftw

  • this is the stuff that will be stuck in the back of my head untill im like about to die. then i will probably be babbling about episodes of gumby to the nurses in the old persons home all day! omfg...

  • that didnt sound like hopi songs...sounded more like Navajo songs...lol...damn man get it right!

  • this is a cartoon from the 1960's, about an Indian from the 19th century. Most Natives couldn't read until well into the 20th century, and because of their vastly different language structures, most did speak broken English. Funny how you didn't even notice that this cartoon tries to portray a positive view of Hopi culture. I can barely even blame you though, hell you've probably been raised to be a submissive apologetic pussy from the day you were born.

  • Comment removed

  • Don't misunderstand me, I have a tremendous amount of respect for American Indian cultures, but no one will honestly be fooled into believing that modern Indians are illiterate and uneducated because of this cartoon. I think you're being a bit overly sensitive. I really don't see any negative stereotypes of Indians anymore. As far as I'm concerned they've done a very good job of assimilating into the modern education system (which sometimes I'm not so sure is a good thing)

  • Ok, lets all feel sorry for the poor Native American. Gumby hurt his feelings. I think he may need a hug.

Get the fuck over yourself, you read into things way too much. Just forget the whole race thing and enjoy your fuckin life. Those two "white" people were just a couple of morons themselves. Learn to laugh shit off.

  • Comment removed

  • I think I do have some Native American in me, my great grandmother was full blooded Apache, but, I in no way try to claim anything for it as I look as "White" as they come. My point to you was that your "race" is not the only one that is stereotyped even us "white" people fall under some of them and all you can do is ignore it and just get on with your life.

  • I remember seeing this on a vhs tape as a child, The rain spirits scared the crap out of me xD

  • dude! me too!

  • Put simply this is realy gumby!

  • This episode really starts to be a major turning point, almost like a Bob Hope and Bing Crosby Road Movie of the 1940s, with sceptical Pokey as cynical Bob Hope and Gumby as then-easygoing Bing Crosby in later years for now]. Much like how Daffy Duck was, except Pokey never really got more than the cynicism of the late 1940s-mid 1950s duck except for a 1967 short that is not on her,e "Motor Mania". However, Pokey is really uh, "disrecptful"..:) of the Spirits.

  • Why does Pokey talk like he's baked?
