This is the reason why I bought it, because there's always ammo for it and it's cheap. This is my first Glock and I love it, thanks for doing this video, GOD BLESS AMERICA.
I've been reading and learning as much as I can about these guns. I still don't own a Glock and everybody tells me "What are you waiting for?" I guess even the FBI has adopted this gun as their service pistol. I just love the M1911a1 in 45 acp, maybe I'm too old to change. I like the 185 grain +p and the 230 grain standard pressure. After watching your video, I will try it. Thanks.
Good vid. I like your style and presentaton. I subscribed. One thing though, as others have mentioned, you can't convert 'up' from 9mm to .40 s& w. If you want to shoot 9mm and/or 40s&w out of the same gun you need to get the .40 model (22,23,27), the proper 40/9 conversion barrel and 9mm mag to turn it into a quasi Glock 17,19,26...you can't go the other way. But still, great vids....keep 'em coming!
I was a 45. cal man, when I shot my first glock .40 never look back love it compact,,accurate, ammo is avialable every where, my wife shot it and she switched her 9mm to .40 very easy to fire
No. it's human nature to be cautious, but once you learn the inner workings of the Glock you will realize that its just as safe as carrying a DA/SA condition 1 hammer down AS long as you keep your FINGER OFF the trigger until you are ready to shoot, and be careful holstering and unholstering.
That is a major reason that I decided on .40 S/W becuse it is larger then a 9mm but smaller and lighter then .45 and I have a Taurus 740 Slim GREAT CARRY GUN.
Good vid I also love the glock pistols check out my vid on my glock and let me know what you think I also got a video of a great store online for pure glock products and accessorries heavenly website so check me out
Great, informative little bit on Glock 23 40cal. I miss mine!,carry FireStorm 45acp,but think its time to make a trade for another Glock compact,or sub style...God bless
I fell in love with my G22 too. I put a Seattle slug in it in addition to a brass base plate. If that wasn't enough to calm the flip down, i put in a 3.5 lb connector and shazam! I did it all for competition but i like so much i would like to carry it instead of an XDM. Can you believe it?
I love mine, cashed in my colt 45 for it (too many safety’s in a pinch to think about)
40 s&w are abundant , lucky gunner.com has the a bulk deal for 330.00 per 1000. That makes it .29 cents a round And you can’t beat that. recoil is fine, my ruger lcp 380 has my jump then these.
i love those older glocks that do not have the rails...my dad had a 1st gen glock 17, i used to think it looked goofy and way to slim but not anymore.

I own a .40 Glock. It is amzing! I have used a 9mm since 1995, but when I found this, I was amzed. The smae man that got me on this also got me on a .45LC S&W Mountain Gun. I love them both.
@74Hobbes how is the rtf2 grip? I just ordered a gen3 g23 and was thinking of that grip but i let a old timer talk me out of it. He said it was ruff when you shoot alot of rds
@GTILOUD It is pretty rough. That's the reason why I've put on the Hogue rubber/grippy sleeve on the grip. Cut's WAY down on the friction and I like texturing or lack there of on the Hogue. I also wear gloves most of the time when shooting. Either way, I think the Gen3 or 4 are good buys.
I have read that the .40 cal Glocks have some safety concerns in regards to casing failures due to the design of the chamber. My understanding is that the round is not fully supported, however admittedly I don't completely understand exactly what this means . What is your take on this issue? Or, is it an issue at all? Any chance you could show us what this is?
Interesting review. I have a g32 and a g23 barrel to swap out. One fantastic gun in a perfect size, and two calibers (one outstanding caliber in the 357 sig). No spring changes, the magazines are interchangeable 357/40 both work for both rounds. ...good stuff.
I love my Glock 23 rtf2 (yes I love my fish gills). Got meprolights and ghost3.5# and its everything I could ask for. Great CC choice imho. Love the vids !
ha, I like your rubber slip mod on the handle. A brother-in-law turned me on to the particular mod about 2 years ago. Its cheap, and it totally works. Its seen in my slide show of the 23. Personally, I love the G23. I think that its a very happy medium between the 9 and the 45. Ever shot a 27? Not my fav. It flies up so much because of the lack of handle space. Perhaps a baseplate would make the difference. I've got the rubber mod on my 27 too, and it helps some, but the 23 has far more control.

My first reaction to shooting my first Glock, which was a 23, was WOW! this thing is accurate as hell, my next thought after I bought it was how do they sell any other pistol with these out on the market? I have 4 now and I really want a 45 or a 10mm, but I can't decide, Ful size or compact, 45 or 10, black or OD, any help @sootch00?
Depending on your size, the .40 is the caliber i would recommend. Obviously, if you are a smaller framed person or even if you feel more comfortable with the 9mm then go with what you feel comfortable with, or feel safe with. I recommend the .40 because of the power and the penetration. As a law enforcement officer i carry it because when i am on duty, nothing makes me feel safer than the .40 caliber because if i am going up against a drug crazed suspect than i would rather it take 1 shot.
I love my G23. 40S&W is an acquired taste and not everyone can handle the extra recoil, but with the lighter 165grn and even 135grn loads you get a nice low recoil package.
My Wife carries a G23 and she loves it as well. I think it all comes down to proper grip and practice.
love glocks. Particularly the 19,for me there the perfect size with good capacity and they just never fail.I don't know about you but when im carrying my 19 i have 100% confidence in it
I've shot many Glocks. The .40 cal's are my favorites. Some people say that .40's recoil too much or that they aren't accurate. I beg to differ. I consistantly out shoot people at the range with my G23. I have no trouble with recoil or staying on target. The more you shoot it, the better one gets. I'm glad you kept that one Sootch00. :)
Darn it, you shared what I thought was the best keep secret. Now all the 9mm and .45 ammo hoarders are going take away my .40 ammo. Please post a Glock 21 video ASAP and say, "I changed my mind. .45 cal is the way go."
@AirsoftVeteran96 Yes, you should be able to put a 40 barrel n the 17/19 models. They're the same size frames and slides. Steve at safearmsreviews put a 357 sig barrel in the model 23 40 cal. That's a potent caliber.
The slide's hole for the barrel muzzle on the .40 can fit anything under that size (so the .357 and the 9mm). I highly doubt the 17/19's slide muzzle hole will be the same size as a .40 - if it were, the stock 9mm barrels would be very thick and heavy to accommodate for proper fit.
@sootch00 I dont think you can convert 9mm to 40....Check with wolf barrels...You can only convert to smaller or similar rounds...like 40 to 9mm and 40 to 357 sig.
@sootch00 Actually sootch... I don't believe you can go UP in caliber...such as an original model Glock in 9mm to .40, but you can go from .40 to 9mm. At least they don't advise that you do so.
@AirsoftVeteran96 No you can't. They make conversions for the .40 cal to 9mm. Going up to down. Not down to up. The 357 uses almost the same case and is very similar. So no you cant go up. Only down. Get a .40 and then get a 9mm conversion barrel.
@AirsoftVeteran96 Actually you will not be able to put a .40 cal barrel in a Glock 17 or 19 without replacing the slide. The .40 barrel will be too large in diameter for the 17 or 19 slide. You can, however, put a 9mm barrel in a Glock 22 or 27 without any problem.
@AirsoftVeteran96 from my understanding, no you cannot, you can convert a .40 to a 9mm, or to a 357, but you cannot upgrade from a 9mm to a .40 or .357. I believe that some of the .40 frames are the same size (dimensional) but the .40 cal frames are reinforced to handle the hotter load of the .40, whereas the 9mm is not.
Hey, im getting my first glock and im on a budget, i dont concealed carry, and i dont need it for home defence(Remington 870) so im looking for a gun i can afford to shoot, but is accurate and im thinking about a 17, what do u think?
@celticguy6405 They're great guns. Lightweight, simple and safe operation, good accuracy for a "combat" pistol, great value for the money, and of course, legendary durability and reliability.
They also have dead simple field stripping procedures for cleaning, along with a plethora of reasonably-priced parts and options to tailor it to your exact needs.
A Glock won't win any beauty contests. It is completely "function over form" -- which, to me at least, has its own different kind of beauty.
Glock 23 w/ conversions can shoot .40, 357sig, 9mm, and .22lr. During ammo shortages I was shooting my G23 alot. It handles 180gr and 165gr well but 155gr is really snappy. A thumbs forward grip really tames the recoil. The size is also good for both duty carry and CCW carry. Also reloading .40 you have alot of options 135gr-200gr and can adjust velocity/recoil to your liking. The .40 ammo variety also allows a broader range of penetration vs expansion options over 9 and 45
That is my mainstay. Glock 23, it has always been there for me and I for it. lol. What the heck, it sounds like I am in a relationship with my 23, I guess I am.lol Great gun, I have had mine for many, many years.Thousands of rounds and always reliable. Thanks for the review Sootch.5/5
Nice vid. IMO the .45 Glock recoil (in my G30) is overall MORE recoil, but it FEELS slower/less sharp than my G22 or G23. I prefer the .45.
Also at 3:39 you say "if you have a 9mm and you want to put a different barrel...)" Just want to point out to viewers that the .40 and .357 glocks can use a conversion barrel to 9mm, but you can't go the other way (you can't put a .40 or .357 conversion barrel in a 9mm glock.) Probably just a slip of the tongue. 8-)
Great review of the Glock 23. I would be curious in the future on your thoughts about the after market guide rods, springs and barrels for the Glock. Good stuff Sootch! Thanks.
Wow. That is a great point about ammo being more available. Hmmmm. Anyway, thanks for the review. You look so "shimmery" in this video. I mean that in a very good way -- like the camera or lighting was perfect. And of course you always look like a badass when you shoot and stuff. Take care xoxo missy
oh ya I love my G22.....I thought the same thing about always seeing them 4 sale and ammo, but my "Cop" friend said that "there is so many out there your gonna see more and as far as ammo go's, when police use 40s&w they will always produce more of the ammo they use".....at least in my really dark blue state of NJ lol :/
sootch, man your way behind on so much stuff, the .40 SW round is nothing new, its not just becoming to Police, theyve been issued since it was first produced. Also officers havent carried a SW M19 for years
@2238945gbs I bought a Model 23 a month after they were released. Also had 3 other Glock .40 cals. The model 19 comment was a little history on why the Glcok changed LE's carry.... . I'm not behind, just never liked 'em along with a lot of other shooters. I got re-introduced and now back on the wagon.
Dude,That's not a look of pain... it's concentration.
@willwood487 I had heard that there were some initial problems with the early 22/23 models but that it was the ammo. All I know is this gun shoots really well. I'm very pleased. Thanks Bro~
Awsome vid, i have a glock 22. and love the gun, very reliable has trijicon sights, and extended slide release. never fails, put about 1000 rounds through it and its still accurate and dependable.
I have a 23, added the extended slide release and Trijicon night sights. I agree the recoil is sharp. I am curious to see how the Gen4 handles.
I love the setup except the sights are all green and I would like the front sight to be a different color so you can tell its in the middle easily. I will fix that when I get the night sights for my next Glock I buy. I am sure that will be soon if I keep watching Sootch.
Funny Sootch, I had exactly the same feelings on the .40 round. I'm a fan of 9mm and .45 and.22lr and .44mag for hunting. It just seemed like there really isn't a need for any other rounds but like you said, there always seems to be .40 on the shelf at all the gun shops. Interesting to note, the .40 is the son of the 10mm(same bullet shorter case) and father of the .357sig( 40 necked down to accept a .357 bullet)
I love glocks, I love the reliability, the simplicity of field stripping and cleaning, I like the finish and the amount of accesories available.
However the problem I have with glocks is illustrated pretty well by sootch's face in the first few secs.
Glocks are so light that they give a pretty firm kick, even the nines. If you are a good shooter you can work with that, but I find myself anticipating to recoil and printing low on the targets.
@12GaugeLosAngeles yes, thats it. Higher presures, .45 is 100 years old and was made with low presure in mind, .40 kicks more then a .45 and was made in the 90's i believe, was designed for high presure/velocity.
I purchase the Model 23 about 5 months back and have fired well over 1000 rounds thru it. As you mention in the video, I get them at Walmart and at a great price. I have added Trijicon night sites and purchased the grip plug (along with a few extra 13 rnd clips). Love it, I carry it everyday in a Front Line IWB holster which offers me deep concelment. I am considering slim line for a summer time deep concelment weapon in .40 cal, any suggestions? Liked the video Sootch!
Great review! Although it may be a while, that is probably going to be my next pistol with a view toward one-by-one pickin' up the conversion barrels. Thank you sir!
I have to agree the .40 has some snap. I was at a range trying out subcompacts and first I tried the glock 26 in 9mm, which was very pleasant to shoot. Then I tried the glock 27 which is the same size only in .40 .... it was very very unpleasant to shoot and I had a hard time hitting anything.
I'm sure I could get used to the .40 but in my mind glocks will always be synonymous with 9mm.
I own a Glock 22 in 40S&W, and I love it. I bought mine right when the 40 S&W caliber first came out. I would agree that any newcomer, or non gun enthusiast, would be well served choosing a Glock as their first pistol. Simple, reliable, and beautiful.
not sure about gen 4 glock .40 but for previous generation glocks it's the only glock i wouldn't own. the reliability of the .40 Glock gen 1 thru 3 is questionable. I love my Glocks and i own .40S&W beretta 96 that i love but the glock .40 no thanks. Unless they fixed the issues for gen 4
Check out Ruger SR40 or SR40C they feel like 9mm very light recoil. I was pleasantly surprised.

Hey man i plan on getting a glock but not sure what caliber to get.
Thanks man.

Please post a Glock 21 video ASAP and say, "I changed my mind. .45 cal is the way go."

hey, can you put a .40 barrel in a glock 17 or 19?
AirsoftVeteran96 1 year ago
@AirsoftVeteran96 Yes, you should be able to put a 40 barrel n the 17/19 models. They're the same size frames and slides. Steve at safearmsreviews put a 357 sig barrel in the model 23 40 cal. That's a potent caliber.
sootch00 1 year ago
@sootch00 cool, then what conversion barrel would you reccomend for that, becausei haven't seen any for 9mm to .40
AirsoftVeteran96 1 year ago
The slide's hole for the barrel muzzle on the .40 can fit anything under that size (so the .357 and the 9mm). I highly doubt the 17/19's slide muzzle hole will be the same size as a .40 - if it were, the stock 9mm barrels would be very thick and heavy to accommodate for proper fit.
Spearfisher1970 1 year ago
@sootch00 Wrong
surfish01 1 year ago
@sootch00 I dont think you can convert 9mm to 40....Check with wolf barrels...You can only convert to smaller or similar rounds...like 40 to 9mm and 40 to 357 sig.
mechanisto1832 1 year ago
@sootch00 Actually sootch... I don't believe you can go UP in caliber...such as an original model Glock in 9mm to .40, but you can go from .40 to 9mm. At least they don't advise that you do so.
74Hobbes 1 year ago
@sootch00 sorry but you cant put a 40 barrel in a 9mm glock tried it with mine no good.
sky4149 11 months ago
@AirsoftVeteran96 No you can't. They make conversions for the .40 cal to 9mm. Going up to down. Not down to up. The 357 uses almost the same case and is very similar. So no you cant go up. Only down. Get a .40 and then get a 9mm conversion barrel.
surfish01 1 year ago
@AirsoftVeteran96
No, you can not. The Glock 17 and 19 are 9mm and have a smaller breech face than the .40. You can go from .40 to 9mm though with a conversion barrel.

@AirsoftVeteran96 Actually you will not be able to put a .40 cal barrel in a Glock 17 or 19 without replacing the slide. The .40 barrel will be too large in diameter for the 17 or 19 slide. You can, however, put a 9mm barrel in a Glock 22 or 27 without any problem.
argo84 10 months ago
@AirsoftVeteran96 actually i think you need to change the extractor too...
MahanHalkoja 9 months ago
@AirsoftVeteran96 from my understanding, no you cannot, you can convert a .40 to a 9mm, or to a 357, but you cannot upgrade from a 9mm to a .40 or .357. I believe that some of the .40 frames are the same size (dimensional) but the .40 cal frames are reinforced to handle the hotter load of the .40, whereas the 9mm is not.
THarrisson 7 months ago
@THarrisson that kinda settles it for me, i think im gonna go with the 40

Hey, im getting my first glock and im on a budget, i dont concealed carry, and i dont need it for home defence(Remington 870) so im looking for a gun i can afford to shoot, but is accurate and im thinking about a 17, what do u think?
AirsoftVeteran96 1 year ago
ive never shot a glock before, id love to see what all the hype is about
celticguy6405 1 year ago
@celticguy6405 They're great guns. Lightweight, simple and safe operation, good accuracy for a "combat" pistol, great value for the money, and of course, legendary durability and reliability.
They also have dead simple field stripping procedures for cleaning, along with a plethora of reasonably-priced parts and options to tailor it to your exact needs.
A Glock won't win any beauty contests. It is completely "function over form" -- which, to me at least, has its own different kind of beauty.

thanks, ive been considering a .40 cal and if i do get one i think its gonna have to be a glock

Great review Sootch!
RodneyAHampton 1 year ago
Glock 23 w/ conversions can shoot .40, 357sig, 9mm, and .22lr. During ammo shortages I was shooting my G23 alot. It handles 180gr and 165gr well but 155gr is really snappy. A thumbs forward grip really tames the recoil. The size is also good for both duty carry and CCW carry. Also reloading .40 you have alot of options 135gr-200gr and can adjust velocity/recoil to your liking. The .40 ammo variety also allows a broader range of penetration vs expansion options over 9 and 45

Rock on!

@2238945gbs I bought a Model 23 a month after they were released. Also had 3 other Glock .40 cals. The model 19 comment was a little history on why the Glcok changed LE's carry.... .

But then agian I'm more of a long gun shooter
