Do you really think that leaving a letter out of the word "God" somehow makes it less actually a word, or not saying his name? Words are simply noises we make that are associated with concepts and ideas. By using the word "God" (or your version, "g-d"), we are meaning to say a deity, the one we believe is the supreme, singular deity of the universe. Jehovah, Yahweh, whatever.
Don't you think God cares about the idea behind the word?

I believe you. I knew this about the Jewish long before I came across you. I'm not challenging the notion that this is something to which the religion adheres. My point is that this is nonesensical. By all means, respect the subject of your worship. But censoring a word that is not even a proper noun in its original usage, and is not the real name of your god, is overkill and seems to be another example of how religion holds society back from progress.
@lespaulrentals I totally agree with you, but in English language there's no other word for G-d, therefore we accept it as if it's his real name. I have to speak to my rabbi about this; so I have no doubt. I think it is accepted as holy. Jewish Religion moves society further in a good way, to illustrate, the fact that we could have a respectful conversation with each other, it's all about understanding & then we progress, or do you think differently? What religion are you? just asking!
I understand why you would want to hold sacred the name of your god, but the monotheistic fork of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all worship one god, the god of all, the god of old. He does have a name, Yahweh, or Jehovah. We worship him with different interpretations. Ever since Ishmael was split off from the family of Abraham, the different belief systems have grown their own ways.
My point is, we should say the word "God" because it doesn't make any sense to say "g-d" when everyone knows what you mean. It's one thing if you replace "God" with "The Holy Father" or something like that, but "g-d" automatically gets converted into the same thing as "God" in peoples' minds. It's like replacing "fuck" with "f***" or something like that. We all know you're saying "fuck."

My religion is nothing. I believe in the god of old. I do my best to form my beliefs based on my interpretations of holy scriptures.
I was raised for sixteen years in the Christian Church, though.
