@Leoooonard I have tried using braid to desolder these capacitors and it doesn't work the best. For a start there is such a small area to work on, it can be awkward to get the braid in, also because the legs of the caps are folded back on themselves, the braid doesn't get all the solder out and you then need to resort to the method I showed in the video, so the easiest way is to do it how I show :)
great stuff dude, i wish i could do this shit but i am truly hopeless. At least i have 3 working (now) badboys so i can avoid fixing GGs for a few years :)
Wow you know literally everything about GG care, John, from capacitor replacement and motherboard disassembly down to not losing the little orange power switch! it really shows your committment to the system, ha!
Great tutorial on replacing the capacitors properly. Too often you hear people telling others to grab the surface mount capacitor with pliers and twist till it rips off. Also, if you have a hard time getting the replaced capacitors to lay flat enough, you can put some electrical tape on the inside of the shielding cover before replacing it so there is no worry about shorting.
@woodengamer I have seen people just ripping the caps off the board too, I am surprised they ever come off with out ripping the pads off ! Thanks mate :)
Great tutorial. Could try using solder remover wick when removing the old cap. Microfarads are usually marked with μF, μ being the symbol for micro and F for farads.
@Polaventris Thanks mate. I have tried de-solder wick before when doing this and it doesn't work very well, I think it's because the solder goes underneath the caps, this is the easiest method. Yeah I knew about that but some ebay sellers list they're capacitors with just a U symbol ;)
BTW, SUBBED!
