The Harley Davidson dirt bike was Called a MX 250 and was made in 1977 1978. There is alot of cool pictures and history info on the web about these bikes, Just do a search under " Harley Davidson MX 250 "
@tobyeo They actually had a factory race team and are a big part of dirt bike history. I am a long time racer and motocross fan, I could help you find out some info if you need it, Great videos keep them coming !
At 5:20, the Hollister AMA MX race, Rick Johnson stuck in the gate and they red flagged it! Gebors was angry. He wasn't the only one. Hollister was an old quarry and was hard pack and had a lot of granite in it. In 1997 the park brought in some 2ft of sand from dredging their ponds.. That made a difference. But the race promoter, AMP, was caught unawares. They worked hard. But the whoops from braking were so deep you could only see the 60's racers heads. Grooves in turns could catch your pegs.
i thought it was hard getting parts for my 83 kdx but i cant imagine what lengths they have to go to, to get parts for the 1910 and 1915 harley's and indian's. is there a site where i can see this 1990 ktm 500 mx?
The clip that you call "1971 TV Commercial" is actually a scene from the epic documentary, On Any Sunday. The three riders are Malcolm Smith, Mert Lawwill and Steve McQueen.
Cool to see all the old bikes. And not just the sort-of old bikes we're used to, but genuinely old bikes!
I think that is the commerical for the movie. I didn't add that title, the original has steve mcqueen talking however the clip I got was translated into another language so you have some one talking over him. You can hear steve say "I have a new film" though on that clip. search on Motocross Steve Mqueen for the original clip.
Ya, I was wondering how hard it would get parts for a 1909 Indian or a 1938 Matchless! Funny thing its probably still easier than a KTM 495!
I hear ya. I'd like to have a proper KTM but I don't dare. Besides, I've still got lots of Maicos and Huskies on my "stuff I want more than a 495" list. Probably the only KTM I'm going to find myself buying hasn't been made yet. I'm not a big fan of new plastic bikes, but I've promised myself that I'm going to buy the first proper motocross bike that comes with a direct-injected 2-stroke. Even if I never ride it, it's a technology I want to be supporting. DI will bring back the 2-stroke!
Hillsboro Motosport has a 1990 KTM 500 MX hanging from their ceiling in original condition. Only started once, the owner bought it, started it, found it was too powerful and parked it. Its mint.
I gather that "too powerful" was a common complaint of 400+ bikes. When my dad got his 450 Maico (a '72 I think?) the previous owner was selling it because it scared the shit out of him and he wanted to get rid of it before he was killed. Pretty bad-ass way for a teenager to come across a practically brand-new bike. Doesn't happen very much anymore, I suspect.
