It was unfortunate FDR had to implement government assistant to re employed Americans affected by corporate cronyism of Coolidge/Hoover years. FDR did not want government programs, but had no choice. he understood government would have gotten in the way of the free-market system system. this was the only time in U.S. history when bipartisan congress united behind the president in U.S. history. If Glenn Beck hates FDR because FDR was a democrat, Then Glenn Beck is wrong.

U can't have 100%capitalism! U need little 'socialism'. FDRs policies-practical &specifically targeted 2a need!He called it NewDeal, packaged &presented 2the ppl!Ppl who r afraid of change or jealous will always name-call 2diminish his accomplishment!It's simply gov't n action 2help citizens!Lessen ppl anxiety,then they listen &more receptive 2change!Notice,FDR says things like we're not there yet,but we'll get there or we've done this but I'm still not satisfied nor should u b until..he's like stringing them along but calming them down!brilliant!

Agreed with Amiduffer, but I doubt most Americans know much about Hamilton and how he almost single handedly built American capitalism.

FDR used a version of Hamiltonian national banking with the rebuilt RFC, not socialism.

In many regards what FDR did was democratic socialism, but at that time there wasn't much else that could have been done, although the Depression wouldn't really end until the U.S. started helping Britian and Russia in the war against Hitler (before the U.S. entered the war) in 1939 - 40.
