the coalition never said they would run up the same debt. they said the deficit would be at least 25 billion less this year. and would've reached surplus again much quicker, coming from a much closer starting point.

Here's an interesting fact. This deficit is 4.9% of GDP. Spending has increased by 4.6% of GDP since the last Costello budget. and yer Labor claims it was caused by lost revenue.
