  • I love love this song by aretha it makes me cry ever time i hear it

  • Can she be any greater?! Every performance I heard of her is in a different spirit, but amazing in its own way. I love her dearly! She is mos def. the Queen, the true Queen of Soul!

  • Her voice is raspier than her earlier perfomances. She's no the only artist whose voice changed over the years. Check out early Dionne Warwick compared to her later work. Smae is true for Billie Holiday, Ella, Dinah, Sarah, and so on.

  • 13 year old drummer, Corey King performed at BB Kings!

  • I don't know what half of yall listening to but the half that hear what I hear.. She sangin that thing and maybe it's because I'm a singer and I understand the reason for certain notes and melodies but more than likely it's because she really sanging! You can clearly hear the youth in her voice. Like everything in your body your singing voice matures and ages too. This is not a lazy performance. However the version on her greatest hits is my favorite it's a bit more uptempo. Listen 2 it again.

  • I understand why people like you go out of there ways to hate on someone. You don't know Aretha at all and her weight and what she wears has nothing to do with you. Lastly this was not a lazy performance, this was an amazing one. She was in very good voice.

  • i looooooove this song right here

  • oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

THATS why the call her the queen of soul.

    I seeee

  • Yeah this was in 2005 and she sounds great!

  • I am a TRUE Aretha fan is its clear that this recording is a recording that happened back in the 70's or 80's... Aretha still has soul, but her voice is not tired in this recording....so that's how u know its old.

  • HOLY SHIT I didn't know Aretha can still SANG like this!

  • ARETHA is SANGING on this clip!!!!!

  • This is a beautiful rendition of "Ain't No Way." Aretha's phrasing and sense of soul here is, I believe, unmatched. Her voice is soft and sweet, yet strong and resonant. It is evident that this song was written for her. Aretha's interpretation deepens the lyricism of the song. We all want to be able to love somebody with untied hands. This performance captures this sentiment for me. May Carolyn Franklin rest in peace.

  • The Lady Soul

  • During the clip, Aretha clearly announces the high saprano as Shelly. The vocalist isn't her long-time back ground singer and cousin Brenda.

  • OMG

who is that in the background????

she sounds just like Cissy Houston on the original version.

  • I believe it is Aretha's cousin Brenda who has been one Aretha's beckground singer for years.

  • Patti can only dream that she could sing like this. This has Aretha written all over it. Did you not listen to those runs and riffs? Than the background singer you know that's more than likely Cousin Brenda.

  • does she ask the band to low the higher part "if you need me..." ??

  • No, "bring it down guys" as in "bring the volume down", not the pitch.

  • I happen to read, write, arrange, and produce music. I know harmonic structure so I'm certainly not tone deaf or duh. Her voice isn't what it was but it certainly isn't shit.

  • Miss Michelle betta hit that high-C

  • What people fail to realize is whatever voice Aretha is in, she still has the indomitable gift of being able to still interpret a song. That's why she is the queen. Everyone thinks it's about range and runs. There's more to it.

  • I am agreement with you. I find that a 'perfect' voice can be very dull to listen to, and all the vocal tricks in the world do not make a good singer, they just make someone who is good at vocal tricks.

  • What I do believe is that it is a question of internal experience and degree of maturity, which leads some people to not understand that what makes a piece of music be superior is much more than just a matter of 'good' sound.

  • I'm with you. As far as the other commenter goes. Just because someone doesn't agree with his/her assessment of Aretha certainly doesn't mean someone is tone deaf. Very few people are actually tone deaf.

  • Despite the garbled sound, I got chills and felt teary-eyed from this. Now, THAT is what I call singing. So, to anyone who thinks there is some debate about the matter, and for all those who said that she has lost her spark - 'you better think' ... again.

  • Do you make a frequent habit of going around criticizing other people's opinions? I don't know why anyone would want to waste their time on such a thing, but that is your right.

  • As you have commented on my comment, I feel that it is now my own right to make a comment to you, in return. Maybe, rather than insisting on following the pursuit of such a negative practice, one which is likely to inspire some people to feel resentment towards you, you might make some suggestion as to whom you do think can sing well. I am open to listening.

  • Its only a few singers I listen to Sam Cooke,Aretha Franklin,Al Green,The Delfonics,Billie Holiday,Luther Vandross,The Shirelles,Sade,The Stylistics,Anita Baker,Stevie wonder,The whispers,Chaka Khan and Patti Labelle just to name a few cause my laundrylist of the sangers go on'n'on.

  • I really appreciate your response to SoulSir. I love Aretha's voice, then and now. Who among us are what we were 40 years ago. I also am female. Furthermore, I love the MySpace medium and as its name suggests, we can expect folks to practice their free speech rights. However, I often read very negative and profane responses which are not only embarrassing to read but also saddening as to the shape of todays's human spirit among some.

  • I heartily agree with you, Encado. It amazes me how some MySpace users abuse their rigt to free speech by insiting that their own opinions are the only ones that are "true" and that matter. I am often embarrassed by the use of profanity and mean-spiritedness which does nothing to promote peace and insteresting, helpful dialogue with fellow "humans"!!

  • Don't get me twisted I ain't hatening on my favorite sanger I'm just talking bout her vocals 2day now back in the day her voice was the cream of the crop...feel me?

  • This is Aretha. I'm not surprised, in spite of what others may say. Sista can still SANG any of her old songs and anyone else's. This proves it. This New York audience got their monies with this one. Sing it, Lady!

  • is this in LA or New York?

  • New York

  • The Queen of Soul! Sounds great!

  • Queen sounding really good here.
