a stirring movie and so universal to what so many young men must have experienced through centuries of war, to come back mamed, angry and alone. Cruise portrays this quite well; it must be incredibly difficult for people out there today who cannot do the things a lot of us take for granted. The first part where he dances to Moon River with the girl is quite moving and a heart-rending foreshadow of the loneliness he will later feel without a woman of his own and no hope for children, etc.

Plus, everything you see in this movie actually happened. Kovics patrol was jumped by VC's near a village. He got shot in the heel, and started wildly firing back, then was hit in the shoulder, being incapacitated. The helo also went down. The black soldier who rescued him died later that day.

Another terrible Stone film.Pretty much unwatchable,due to the depressing and ultimately anti-climactic character study he made out of kovic's life.It's like ''jim morrison in nam''.Two and half hour of self-pity,punctuated with a bogus arc.Cruise was actually quite good,maybe the best,and most demanding role.Stone made one decent film,jfk.But when you think about it,most anything concerning the assassination is interesting.On the technical level however,jfk is outstanding,i'll give him that.

stone realy brought D confusion of D war in Vnam right in your face D most powerful war scene ever shot wit D nva coming up over D dunes screaming shooting D villagers wounded and nothing can B done because u hav2 retreat that scene realy captured D confusion of D vietnam war knowing u killed by mistake and been told 2 shut up about killing Wilson This film was very graphic and hard hitting a deserved oscar winner and cruise best acted movie.
