If Coach Bryant was still around, this wouldnt be played. But, since he's gone on to coach in the beyond...bring it on! Hard to be humble when you're #1! :) Roll Tide!!!
I went to school at the University in the early '80s for Coach Bryant's last few years. Yes we did that cheer except we would do it during the game and yell "we're gonna beat the hell out of you". Then when Coach Bryant passed, Perkins came and he is the one who stopped the cheer. Then after he left and Curry came, the cheer came back.
Good question. I was talking to one of my college friends that played in the band last night. He told me they started it his first year which was 1978. I don't have any reason not to believe him.
I also bet that since you are probably not an Alabama fan.....You didnt know that there was many years that Rammer Jammer was not allowed to played by the band!!!!! Coach Bryant thought it was disrespectful and didnt want it played. It was voted back in after the Bear passed.
It's an old tradition that started god knows when. It's sung almost after every game Alabama wins...even if it's close because in context as an fan or Bama player it's a team no one thought you'd beat ala GA or Clemson or one you struggled or played half @ssed againsted and still one, like Kentucky...though I wouldn't have played it after that one. Rammer Jammer was the schools old newspaper...I don't know if it's still there today, and Yellow Hammer is the state bird.
While watching the dominant performance by the Roll Tide I also heard this on ESPN. How awesome when you can clearly hear the Rammer Jammer on television.
Dude you need to use google more. Alabama has been singing "Yea Alabama" for many many years. Thats was not the first time. You should watch Alabama on saturday's because you are going to be hearing alot more from now on. Before you make stupid comments check your history. Also while teams and their fans were putting us down while we were going through several coaches, a probation, and the loss of 23+ scholarships. Its time we start giving a little payback. RTR
Stupid comments? How about stupid and ignorant replies? He asked what Rammer Jammer was, not Yea Alabama...I figure you already knew that. But since you are so smart, who wrote/composed Yea Alabama? If you guess that one I have one more for you... Explain the lyrics and what they mean. That one should be easy even though it's not a multiple choice answer.
First off I dont need to answer or prove anything. The Yea Alabama comment was a typo I meant Rammer Jammer. But if you need to know I will tell you. Ethelred Epp Lundy Sykes which was a student in 1925 who won a contest wrote Yea Alabama. And the meaning was from the Rose Bowl win and was the start for other southern teams to be competitive with the other teams in the country. Now stick that one in your pipe and smoke it.
And also it also relates to when Georgia Tech was an SEC team. Which I am sure you didnt know. So watch who you call ignorant. The only reason I made my comment was because of the "Its sounds like something gay" comment.
It's the cheer that Alabama does after beating the hell out of somebody, much like they did Georgia. It is usually reserved for teams that talk a lot of smack beforehand.
just saw another Rammer Jammer from someone on the other side of the stadium, and it sounded amazing. This video does not do it justice. It sounded like one at BDS. You guys did a great job!

That's exactly right. My friend in the band said the same thing, but Coach Bryant heard and he didn't care.
