It's not Elvis. The guy's real name that is singing this is "Marvin Eugene Benefield" who was an Elvis soundalike and went by "Vince Everett" which of course was Elvis's stage name in the movie "Jailhouse Rock'. Marvin was born in College Park, GA in 1941.
OldLibrarylady is right! This is Elvis and his character in "Jailhouse Rock" was "Vince Everett" This is cool and I'd love to get a copy of this record!
Ummm..."Vince Everett" was the name of the character played by Elvis in Jailhouse Rock. Do you recognize the voice, the background vocals, the arrangement??? Gee, Elvis fans..wake up!!
The two versions are so similar that any sort of attempt to pit one against the other is really splitting hairs. The only thing that Vince Everett's record would need to make it perfect is the drum flourish at the end of Presley's version. But Vince Everett gets the edge simply for those absolutely killer vocal harmonies in the "gone gone gone" last verse and the way he does the last "yeah". Everett's material in general is great. God bless him!!
If this is the best version of this song, as mentioned. Then it is a compliment to Elvis. This is nothing more than a mirror copy of the Elvis version by an Elvis impersonator. Goes to show how good Mr Presley was eh!
@frankiehiyo vince everette(marvin benfield) was awesome. this is more of a copy of elvis than his other songs. check out livin high, sweet flavors. he has the timing of elvis down to a science. most singers don't have the timing and spark. in his other songs, he doesn't try to sound like elvis. his timing and rhythm is the key
Why he decided to take on the persona of Elvis I don't know. Publicity? He has a really good voice and perhaps he should have paddled his own canoe. But then again some fame is better than none.
Presley plays "Vince Everett," an ex-convict working in the music industry, and a character analogous to Presley's then public image. After going to jail for a bar fight he did not start, Everett meets Hunk Houghton in prison, etc.
Elvis Presley is Vince Everett in the jailhouse rock movie
Agreed but only because of the magic in his voice. That noone else has or ever will. This one is produced by Felton Jargvis who produced Elvis also. Maybe this was the demo E listened to?
@grandprix63 How could this be the best version of the song if it's a note-by-note copy of Elvis' rendition? This is a copy, not a bad one...but a copy. Elvis voice is from out of this world!
