I liked the new Pirates. It was a different story line than the last three films. I liked this one more than I liked the 3rd one. I think the whole kolipso thing was lame. She gets big and then goes away. wow...so entertaining. not! I agree about the lack of the characters from the last movies. I am glad that Will and Elizabeth were not in this one. Fun fact about the monkey. It's the same monkey that was in both of the night at the Museum Movies and the new Hangover 2 movie.

3D is nothing but a stupid gimmick to charge more money for bad movies, especially live-action motives. They always end up with those ridiculous shots that are only in the movie so they can have that 3D effect of something coming at the audience, like the sword in the door. I could understand a CGI movie being done in 3D, but seriously, stop with the live-action stuff. It just gives them an excuse to slack off on the movie itself.

Well, personally I really liked this movie, but I would say the major diffrence is that this movie is based on a book that can't in any way incorporate all the old character without messing up the plot from the book completely.

I still enjoyed the movie, but I also agree with a bunch of the points you made, like Blackbeard seeming "bored" and Phillip having little of a role in the movie (although he was HOT). But I TOTALLY agree about the 3D being completely pointless in this movie. It was very subtle, like you said, and I didn't get my money's worth out of it.

I'm with ya on staying 2D, I didn't even enjoy Captain Emo, or Captain Eeeyooo or whatever it was, way back when at Disney. For people who wear glasses, putting those 3D specs on over, or is it under, your own glasses, is a real pain and it doesn't do a whole lot more than leave you with a heachache ouch! Sorry to hear the movie's a big fail, I can't help it though, I'll probably see it anyway in 2D. At least the popcorn is worthwhile lol

The only movie I've seen that's really used 3D to enhance the storytelling is Coraline. No gimmicky shots (that I remember), but the way everything moved around, the 3D really did make it pop.

Sucks about this movie. I was really hoping it would be good. Ah well, there's still the original three.

the reason why johnny depp doesn't seem to care in this movie is because disney got rid of one the main guys involved in the first three who made it fun for johnny depp.

i thought it was an alright movie because some of the cast did not return. also, no mention of will and elizabeth or the death of davy jones(which would have created shock waves throughout the pirates world).

You know what would have been better, while fixing the Jack Sparrow Problem? If you followed the priest and focused on him dealing with the challenges to his spirituality. How he would react to the idea of mermaids, zombies, and a man controlling a ship. You can still have Jack being a cool character without forcing him to develop his character, and maybe by putting the priest in some more interesting situations, he won't be such a whiny bitch.

Agree with everything you said, especially your side rant about 3D. I'm sorry but who are they trying to fool with this bullshit. Now granted the cgi films that are specifically made for 3D make good (although not optimal) use of it, but other than that it's just an excuse to con us out of more freaking money. The film industry missed the ball hugely on this one, and if they keep this up, I'll be damned to go see a movie in the theatres again.

So, I've been hearing about how many 3D projectors are UNDER-LIT, and don't use the correct bulb wattage. Plus, 3D has DARK glasses. So, was it too dark?

@BlackUniGryphon It's not that they are under-lit, it's that theaters are not changing the 3d projector lens back to the 2d one because it's a pain in the ass. The 3d lens is much darker and can limit the amount of light by over 50%. Even so, this film in 3d was as dark as Eddie Murphy's anus.

@boh3m3 i totally agree with ur view in this movie i think that the 4 installment of this movie seemed to have more of a short movie or bonus movie feel to it. I dont like how they have only really 3 ppl from the 1st 3 movies is Gibbs Jack and Barbossa. Alot of characters seem to be uselessly put into this movie thinking it would make it better including Penelope Cruz who is a good actress role in this movie is pointless the story could still go on even with out her.
