it's a good cover becouse of James vocals but far from the original,i'm "a die hard" metallica fan but hey: you just can't touch masterpieces like this man!
this is so goddamn good and i don't think they tried to exactly copy BOC, it's more like a tribute and they added there own style to this song whiche made the whole thing sound so good
NEM against BOC when following generations cover their songs (play them as 2nd). This defines who owns the gold medal! So BOC the best, f... the rest8concerning this!) from a WHO-fan! "G"
Well lame is the first thing that comes to mind. sounds like everyother met song that i usually turn off after about 30 seconds . Hetfield always sounds like hes ttrying to break loose a bad case of constipation.compared to the studio version this would sound stronger. I would advise you youngsters to go buy a ticket and plant yourselves in the Buck Zone and then get back with yer comparison lol youd probably never listen to these guys again.
Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) is BOC's main guitarist. Hence Buck Zone.....
I'm sorry, Metallica just doesn't cut it on this. Listen to the versions on BOC's Imaginos and Some Enchanted Evening Live. Then you have classic rock! :) Enjoy

The ones who think Metallica did a better job on this song just dont have feeling for music.metallica turned it into a commerical song.theres no soul in it
Metallica`s cover is in my opinion way better than the original by BOC, BoC just sounded weak
i heard Metallica`s version first, and when i heard BoC`s i just felt disappointment, normaly the original is somewhat better, but that is not the case here.
Right on, brother. Yeah, Eric Bloom just can't belt it out like Hetfield. I do prefer the BOC solo, but Metallica turned a great song into a masterpiece.
Usually the original song is better... but just because it is the one we used to.
Nevertheless it is not an axiom.
There are many covers which sounds better. Like Orgy's cover for "Blue Monday" for example.
So..all those guys who so proud of themselves and their "superior" age and experience in music, should admit that it is just a matter of personal taste and opinion.
Best thing I've ever heard from Metallica, but still not as good as either the Secret Treaties or Imaginos versions by BOC. They should've borrowed Buck to do this.
okay, i like Metallica and all, but covering Blue Oyster Cult is bloody sacrilege. if i didn't know the original, i'd probably like this version better than i do. all in all, decent cover though.
sorry for late answer. Yes there's a cut, but I could not here it. Did you use waveanalysis, or did you listen with 20.000 $ soundsystem, or it's just good ears ? ;)
No I didn't cut the last part, cut part from middle, and I recut the video to fit to metallicas songspeed. The video material was much too less for the full length of over 6 mins from metallicas cover. I wanted to make a proper sound for the video, not a proper video for metallicas cover. Since I didn't get a proper sound of BOCs video version (different to album), I tried it with metallicas version...
Don't need to like it, guess this matches your taste:

Why can't we just like them both? Just saying, there is no reason we have to start these petty band wars.

This version isn''t so bad, I suppose. Far superior to any Metallica originals in the last twenty years.

WTF? Metallica have sucked ass for the last 20 years. After "And justice for all", to be precise!!!! This one of my favorite Cult tunes!

I´d like to quote something you wrote on your profile :

is it kind, is it necessary,
is it true "
hm..
Your comment was neither necessary, nor true.

Yeah, this is a respectful tribute but BOC can't really be beat.

I was a BOC fanatic in the 70s and i kinda like this version.... bottom line is it is a tribute, cant go wrong there

this isn't bad but doesn't leave me with the chills and goosebumps like the BOC version does

Agreed but very good. The keyboard in the beginning is as good as the piano done in the original 1974 BOC versin IMO.

I'm sorry but no.
I grew up with this song... and when I heard this cover, I didn't recognize this at all.
Astronomy is supposed to be a beautiful song, not some grungy metal head song.
I'm a fan of both bands... I just think that Metallica should stick to what their good at.
I don't give a fuck if you reply to this or rate this bad... I just want to share my opinion.
Roonifer 2 years ago
If they covered it exactly the same, what's the point?
Just appreciate it for what it is, and let it go. If you don't like it, no problem, just don't twist your panties over it.
vtwinbreed 2 years ago 2
I actually like this more than BoC, but its more the guitar than the vocals that fueled my opinion. The guitar is so emotional by the end.
jetmonkeyking 2 years ago
fuck metallica , james ruins the fucking vocals once again. BöC is so beyond this..

Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) is BOC's main guitarist. Hence Buck Zone........ be in the presence of.... excellent.
Metallica just doesn't come up to scratch with this.
Check out the version on Some Enchanted Evening Live, or Imaginos. Both are classics
