  • This is actually a faster version of `Greensleeves'. I`m not kidding. I actually speeded up the song and compared it to this on my computer.

  • There were so few sane rulers in history and today, of course. Horrible dictatorship! x_x

  • well then...that was fascinating and creepy at them same time

  • Anne Boleyn and Kathryn Howard was divorced, beheaded and then they died

  • May King Richard III live forever!!!

  • The British throne is Mine mine mine!

  • Elizabeth's reign was just and fair? Give me a break.

  • @Himaryous What you mean? Wasen't it? At least to some extent?

  • @GazpachoMacho Like any king or queen with that kind of power over people's lives, whether she was just and fair depended on who you were. She wasn't just and fair to the black people she decided to kick out of England just because they were black, for instance.

  • @Himaryous So I take it that your black and that's why you say this....ok I can respect that. But if that's one of the only flaws in her rule than nothing is ever perfect.

  • @GazpachoMacho Actually no, I'm Caucasian. But I just gave that as one example. It's creating an unrealistic myth to sum up Elizabeth's reign as "Elizabeth was just and fair". The Spanish, whose ships she encouraged pirates to attack, strongly disagree. There are Catholics and Irish who feel she was not fair to them. She engaged in the slave trade. She was a more just ruler than some but she wasn't a pillar of human rights anymore than most rulers of her time were.

  • Great video except they missed the fact that Henry VIII accended the throne after his brother passed away. They kinda made Henry an only child(he had 2 sisters and a brother)

  • @babyriskiae he ascended the throne after his father died. his brother died before their father did

  • Also to be considered is how well Mary managed the country outside of the whole "killing thing". The English nation crumbled under her reign, whereas the reign of Elizabeth I is considered the Golden Age because of everything she did to repair the country after Mary nearly destroyed it.

  • @MelVanders It definately wasn't the best reign...but she didn't nearly destroy the country either. That is a ridiculous claim. In fact many policies that Mary started Elizabeth continued and got credit for it. Its hard to reap the long term benefits when your reign is only 5 years.

  • @Stormiya I'm not attacking you on the facts, I just think it's wrong to defend her because she's Catholic. Someone mentioned that they glossed entirely over what Mary was famous for, and you jumped on the anti-protestant bandwagon. I know you said that you weren't defending her for it, but it comes across that way. I don't want to get into a religious argument on a comment thread originally about a children's television show, though. They left out the killings for each monarch so I'll let it be

  • @MelVanders I am not defending her because she's Catholic. I am just pointing out an obvious Double Standard. She is unfairly singled out because she is the Catholic one and that is a fact. I also don't care to engage in a religious argument. I am neither a Catholic or a Protesant. I just believe we should do our best to remember history as objectively as possible...which is is why I said something.

  • Interesting how they left out how Mary I was a tyrant.

  • @SamhainTheDark She is only a tyrant to those who read biased protesant accounts of her reign. Not defending what she did but She never killed as many Protestants as Henry Did Catholics and then there's Elizabeth's issue with Ireland...my point...if she is tyrant. then so is everyone else in her family. Don't Just pick on the Catholic one.

  • @Stormiya Bloody Mary is considered a tyrant by the entire historical community, hence her nickname. It wasn't how many she killed, but who she killed and how, like burning pregnant women at the stake. 300 burned in 3 1/2 years, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, whom begged for mercy and even converted to Catholicism to try to appease her. You shouldn't be so quick to claim her as a Catholic, unless you want everyone to assume that's how Catholics behave.

  • @MelVanders lol I don't know what historical community you hang around but they don't all think that. In fact the theme of her latest biographies have been that she has been misjudged by Protesant propoganda of Elizabeth's Reign. She did have atrocities committed in her name...as did Henry, Edward and Elizabeth. Thats my point...she is just as much a "tyrant" as them. She's an example of history being written by the victors.

  • @MelVanders BTW lol her nic name I believe comes from Foxes protesant literature published in Elizabeths reign. As for Cranmer he is the same guy who said Katherine of Aragon's marriage was against god's law. So for Mary that one was very personal and considering teh number of Catholics he helped persecute after that he is not innocent either.
