Great video! They call it "old time" Billy in the lowground? Never heard this version before -- in the USA at least the tune was historically associated with southern Virginia. I've heard that the tune can be traced back to a Scottish Strathspey called The Braes of Auchtertyre, and is also played in Ireland as The Belles of Tipperary. Whatever great music!!

The tune is from Kelly Gilbert- from Kentucky, moved to North Carolina.
I think he's still living.

I always enjoy the Canotes, but that doesn't sound like any kind of 'Billy inthe Low Ground" I ever heard before... know where they learned it from??

Hey, isn't that Clyde Curly playing banjo? John Doyle was there a few years ago playing guitar w/Liz Carroll.

Nope, for sure that's Brendan Doyle.

That's me, all right. But I don't mind being mistaken for such a talented guy as Clyde!
