We just saved a Beagle/coonhound from an animal shelter. Oh My what energy this dog has (5 months old). How can we get him to the point that he will not let his nose take over (if possible). He is a smart and loving dog and I feel that it is a possibility. Our "Petey" is super fast also. He has made his own obstacle course around our coffee table, dining room table, and kitchen table, then through the hallway, under our bed and then back to start #1(heehee)
It's going to take a lot of work to get him to focus on you and ignore his instincts. I'd look into Susan Garrett's books "Shaping Success" and look into getting in touch with a clicker trainer in your area. Where are you located?
Wow. Chloe's first actual 4-H trial run on-lead was like that. She flew through the tunnel and whoosh she started running laps around me like 'Look at me Mom I'm super fast!' I didn't get it on tape though because the battery died.
seriously that has brought a tear to my eye, very much reminds me of me and my dog Jock who has only after 2 years decided that agility is the game and sniffing and running off isn't...
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. It still brings a tear to my eye when I watch it, too. & to think...she's in Masters Jumpers now!! Crazy!! :)
I've never seen "zooming" before and I laughed so hard at the beginning I thought I was going to wake the house!! The tears are still rolling down my cheeks!! I love your little ball of furry energy!!!
I'm glad Maddie has really blossomed - it looks like she's having a real blast now! Good luck to you both on your next trial!!
I still laugh every time I watch it and remember the sheer frustration I used to feel in those moments. Now they just bring joy to my heart!!
This little clown of a dog adds so much to my life. I just adore her. !!! I'm SO glad she's decided to love agility. I loved her even when she didn't, though -- I mean, how could you not?!?! :)
Maddie is so adorable!! This video brings a smile to my face :) It is so funny to see her have the "zoomies" and make her own points :) Congratulations on getting third place as a team, you two really deserved it! I am glad you didn't give up on her, she absolutly loves agility!! We can't wait to see more of you two in the agility ring!! ~Heather and Jesse~
thanks...she keeps me laughing, and keeps me humble, that's for sure! :)
She DOES love agility. After a rocky start...I'm super glad we've made it this far. I never thought I'd see the day!
I'd love her just as much if all she ever did was warm my lap, though. That's her favourite job of all, you know, and just happens to be where she is right now :)
Oh Madison, you made me laugh so much with the puppy zoomies at the beginning:)! So much spirit and life in such a small body:). She really did great at the end though. Maddie reminds me of Jesse:).
maddie reminds me so much of my dog shimmer..shed get the zoomies like that the same way...racing insanely fast and just deciding the ring was a racetrack...congratulations to the time u took to give maddie and the hard work now paying off u guys had some beautiful runs there and congrats on that first Q i remember how it felt with my nut haha =)
Yes, after 2.5 years off, she is getting a 'brush-up' on the weaves and I'll probably enter her in a couple more classes at the end of May, at my next local trial.
Congrats on finishing the course TOGETHER! I "pre-retired" my first agility dog, Shiner, after getting halfway to his MACH because he just shut down and didn't want to be in the ring anymore. After 2 years, I brought him back, and he finished his APD and is only 2 QQs from his MACH, and loving every minute of it. There's not a better feeling then getting your buddy back and enjoying agility together.
That's great to hear that you have had success with a 'pre-tirement' plan, too!! Sometimes it's just with the Dr. ordered :) I hope to someday be able to accomplish some titles with her. If I can ever truly harness what she's capable of, she'd be a pretty awesome little 16" competitor, I dare say!!
It was not my intention to make everyone cry...or to make you cry *again* :')
THANKS, though...I am so happy. We worked weaves the last few nights...and she's actually loving it!!! She loves the "reeeaaaddddyyyy" game...who knew?!?! :*) LOVE HER!!!
Wow, Emily. That was so cute. It's nice you have all those pictures and videos. I must say, a LITTLE bit of a difference from watching you run the BC's.
It took some real scrounging around in the archives to find all those old pictures, and sadly only a few of the entertaining videos...!! I think I got my first camcorder around the time I 'pre-retired' her :)
Um, yes, it feels a little different than running the BC's, too. I love her, though -- quirks and all!!
