You, people, should know - this song has nothing to do with either the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, or with the international resistance during WW2. It is virtually a hymn of red partisans, who fought against the tsarist white army (mostly - their countrymen, who were majorly supported from abroad - traitors, to cut it short and simple), and various russian anarchists.

And we were the only European socialist country that wasn't the member of Warsaw pact, and the only socialist country in Europe that wasn't behind "Iron curtain".

I was in error. It was not Yugoslavia. It was Czechoslovakia in 1938 when the Nazis "annexed" the Sudetenland. It was foreign minister Maxim Litvinov when he addressed the League of Nations to take concerted efforts against the Nazis.

The Soviet Union if I remember history correctly was the one country who wanted to stop Hitler in his tracks when the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia but no other country in the League of Nations was intererested in stopping the Nazis. I would be willing to bet that if we put our politics and national pride aside we would find that we have a lot more in common with most nations than we care to consider. There is no reason why democratic and socialist nations can not peacfully co-exist.

Our parents and governments taught us who to hate as has been so throughout history. I know little of the former Soviet Union and Russia. The western allies could have never succeded in Europe if not for the bravery and sacrifices of the Soviet people and vice versa in WW2. Growing up during the Cold War I was taught that the USSR was our enemy. Perhaps one day we can all learn to respect and embrace our differences, think for ourselves and stand together to create a better world for all.
