Watching this interview wit Meryl Streep is just a simple reminder that she is the best actress of this generation. What defines a good actor is the ability to disappear to become the character and give it life. No one does that better than Meryl Streep. I Love Her!!!!
Yes I also think that Lipton often neglects the potential of deep insights and emotional moments, as @TachieBillano has pointed out "he draws them out and then doesn't know what to do with them". However, I don't agree that his questions tend to provide acting students with "intimate clues on how they can conduct their own professional lives in the future". I really wish he'd relax and engage with the interviewee a bit more.
@farneyblakeley: Perhaps not. Remember, this is actually an acting school master class. Lipton is trying to ask questions that will draw out answers the young students in the audience need to hear and understand.
@TachieBillano I don't forget the premise of the show, I also know that what we see is heavily edited, and that there is an off-camera session later for the students to interact with the guest. After watching many many episodes, I know that Lipton often does a poor job of responding to deep insights and emotional moments, he draws them out and then doesn't know what to do with them. You may say that the format requires him to move along with his questions, I disagree
i am so sick of james lipton and his hoity toity show. i don't get why actors still have to suffer answering his senile questions. .. but i'll watch this just for my gurl, meryl.
@pusssssyyyyyy: I understand this would sound "hoity-toity" to some people. But this show isn't meant to focus primarily on what regular fans would want to know about the celebrity (i.e. how they cook or clean house, raise children, etc.). This is a master class for student actors in particular, providing them intimate clues on how they can conduct their own professional lives in the future. That's why Lipton's questions are the way they are. It's a show where actors "talk shop."
meryl streep is like a fantasy figure, a legendary rolemodel for all women, and loved by all men, she isn't the typcal hollywood beauty, shes way more then that, shes so charismatic and special, i love meryl streep man
i hope they have meryl as a repeat guest on this show think about it, when this show aired she hadn't made: adaptation, the hours, angels in america, the devil wears prada, doubt, mamma mia, mother courage, the seagull, julie and julia, it's complicated, the iron lady. i really hope they have another episode with her, i just love her soo much
I love how she accidentally talked herself into dancing for them and was immediately like "oh shit" when they all were trying to get her to do it.She's too cute.
I just saw The Iron Lady a couple of days ago. Just an incredible performance. I think she is the greatest actress of our time, without doubt.

she is wonderful, I can't help but think that Lipton does not get her, he seems to disregard many of her responses, they are over his head

The guy said "Doubt"... Meryl Streep came out in a movie named "Doubt" in 2008.. coincidence? I think not.

What a class act. Completely lovely. Possibly the best actor of her generation.

@luthierboy agreed, although I'd say she is definitely the best actress of her generation, let alone ANY generation.

For someone so celebrated, so watched, so talented, it's so mind-boggling, strange, yet surprisingly wonderful that Meryl is simply human.
