  • This is a wonderful film with fresh material.

  • ...Yes, who can identify which piece 2:00 is played near the closing of trailer?

  • @infinitecomplete & @keroine9 So sorry, I just noticed your questions! I haven't been ck'g in Y/T as often as I usually do! Now, the answer is my all-time favorite of Beethoven's & GG's, too! He plays this better than anyone ever has [I think]! The title [for the search window] on Y/T: > Glenn Gould-Beethoven-Liszt-Symphony No.6 (excerpts) It's also known as "The Pastorale". The one, with Bernstein in the trailer, is by J.S. Bach (the "other German")! You two have good taste, BTW! ;-)

  • What is the piece right at the end that it closes with? So pretty!

  • @keroine9 @infinitecomplete It is Liszt's transcription of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6. He also recorded Liszt's transcription of No. 5.

  • Here's a good movie you might want to rent, with [a younger] Jack Nicholson in the leading role of a rebellious, burnt out, classically trained pianist, from a wealthy family, who takes off from 'that life' & becomes a 'roustabout' in the Oil Fields. It's called "Five Easy Pieces" (a 'catchy title' referring to 5 easy [classical] pieces, that all classical pianists learn to play). Put the title of the film in Y/T's search window, & view many videos fr/the movie along with a great trailer!

  • @DesertAnnie

Dear DesertAnnie:History repeat itself. I understand you perfectly BUT this video NOT is a language class, is about music, about Glenn Gould, about we love PIECES like BWV 1052(THAT was the question from Lillogambino..) and you insist, and insist, and insist....STOP PLEASEEEE..the genious is Glenn Gould, NOT you!

  • (CONT. From Below):

You don't refer to a classical piano (or violin, or a cello) or any instrumental score as a "SONG" -- It is a "PIECE" to be played (not SUNG)!

Webster's definition for the (NOUN WORD): - Song - is:

    (1) The art or act of singing; any VOCAL music.

    (2) Something that is SUNG.

    (3) An elaborate vocal signal produced by an animal, as the distinctive sounds produced by certain birds, frogs, etc. < We still call them SONGS (as a bird's SONG) B/C it is from the VOICE MECHANISM!

  • ♫♪ BTW, if anyone would be interested in hearing the piece; "Concerto No.1 D minor BWV 1052" in it's entirety; enter the title, along with the names: Glenn Gould & Leonard Bernstein, in Y/T's search window [above]. You will find yourself thrilled to enjoy their famous 1960 performance offered here on Y/T ~ it is Gould & Bernstein at their best! You will never hear it played any better than this! I have collected everything that GG ever recorded & this is my favorite above all others! ♫♪

  • @DesertAnnie Hi. Which piece does Gould play near the end of the trailer? Is it the same BWV 1052? THANKS!

  • The first song is Keyboard Concerto No.1 D minor BWV 1052

  • @contrasenano & Lillogambino, just as I was corrected once, when I referred to a classical piece of music as a "song," I'd like to tell you that a "SONG" is music that is sung by a voice, whether it be from the human voice, or that of a bird, etc. But a classical piece of music is just that; a "PIECE," as in this part of a "piece" played by Glenn Gould, from "Concerto No.1 D minor BWV 1052." When music is played by a piano, or a violin, or just any instrument, that is referred to as "a piece."

  • @DesertAnnie Do you think your explanation was REALLY necessary to exactly Know which was the PIECE? in Spanish we usually use "song" like a standard meaning of various terms like piece, song, excerpt, ...

    Play again! ;-)

  • @contrasenano Sorry to say, but you didn't understand [or I didn't make what I was trying to say clear enough for you]! I DID NOT mean "A 'piece of music" such as a "PART OF" A CONCERT SCORE, etc./ What I'm saying is that in the classical music world, ANY musical score [with musical notes -- ♫♪ -- even if the COMPLETE score were to be 10 or 20 pages long] would be called "A PIECE" -- NOT A "SONG"! A "SONG" is anything that is SUNG vocally, using one's VOICE! (CONT. Please See Next Post):....

  • could anybody tell me what's the first song? at 0:10

  • I was lucky enough to get to see the film this past weekend at "The Camelot Theater" in Palm Springs, CA. Like every1 else, I'd been waiting with great anticipation for this one! My son (who lives near Plm Sprgs) took me there for a birthday *Surprise*/which was a Great B.Day gift! I enjoyed it more than I can even say! • Thank you adams82683 - I have been listening to the Brahms Intermezzos non-stop for a few days now.

  • Does anyone know the piece of music at 1:27?

  • @luscic It's Brahms's Intermezzo in A Major, Op. 116, No. 4. Beautiful piece. The whole set really (there are 7 pieces in it) is quite spectacular.

  • I'm interested

  • I'm really looking forward to this. Seems like there's a good amount of new material and perspectives in this that aren't found in the many other documentaries on him (especially the Cornelia Foss angle).

When will it be available on DVD?

  • @faraz1729 DVDs will be released later this year. You can register to be notified when they are available on the official film website: glenngouldmovie[dot]com/dvd-information/
