Oh, I know, the comments are from kids who grew up with Smallville, 'no flights, no tights' and consistently ruining the Superman mythos. This series was made in the late 80's-90's and was only a half hour. Don't expect 2010 effects, and I think this Lana was beautiful, just as much as Kreuk. At least they stick to canon and give her red hair. This will always be the greatest Superboy version.

The fact that it doesnt follow the original origin story doesnt bother me. Smallville is a new version for a new generation, the basics are the same but little hints of this or that have been added. It's the only way you can make a show like Smallville, otherwise it'd be called Superboy and it wouldnt be anywhere near the same show.
I am following the show right now on DVD, I'm up to season 5, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. ESPECIALLY Lex Luthors character - perfectly written.

Smallville does reach a much broader audience than Superman would. I liken it to Stargate SG-1 which ran for ten years, and could easily have run for five more, because it's more down to earth than Star Trek... Smallville is more down to earth than a Superman series would be. Both Smallville and SG-1 have a huge female audience, which isnt typical of Superman. This is why it's gonna run, I believe, for atleast ten years.
But you cant compare L&C with Smallville. Not by a long shot. Smallville is actually written intelligently, focusing on drama instead of goofy comedy and sexual innuendo.
SV is written intelligently? They have good writing at times (and L&C also had bad writing at times) but to act as if Smallville is so superior is an exaggeration. The ep 'Power' was insulting to the viewer & Superman fans. My jaw dropped when Lana used her superspeed in slow motion smiling at Clark. The girls in the show (especially Lois) wear skimpy clothing and bikinis. SV is full of sexual innuendo, mostly coming from Lois. L&C wasn't exactly a drama, but it wasn't a goofy comedy either.
I like Lois and Clark, I watch it occasionally when I stumble across it on the tube, while channel surfing, but it's not what I call high drama or anything - it suffers from being made in the early 90s: it's basically episodic in nature like most old shows - the continuity stuff (some people call it soap opera stuff) wasnt really used back then, except in soaps ofcourse. And that's why I watch TV - the long engulfing storylines that make me come back again and again.
You mean Seasons 1, 2, 3, & 4. There is 4 seasons of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I got the entire series on DVD. I think it is the best Superman series ever and the first one I loved when I was little then Superman The Animated Series/Justice League/Justice League Unlimited as the second best since they really do follow the comics and now Smallville as the third best.
Adventures of Superboy I do remember watching it when I was very little but I don't remember what happens in it though. Of course I do love the movies. However I used to love Superman Returns when it first came out but now I think it wasn't all that good and Singer basically ruined it like Schumacher ruined Batman with the last 2 movies before Batman Begins and The Dark Knight came out.
Well, there are superman fans and then smallville fans. This show is really old though - I watched it when I was little... loved it. Loved the first superboy better though.
oh-oh ... watching this show after so many years make me wonder why I never noticed the bad special effects and the "interesting" play of the actors *lol*. but it's nice to freshen up some childhood memories :)

Before "Smallville" ever came into existence, this was "Superboy/The Adventures of Superboy"; it aired in syndication from 1988-1992.

jesus, don't go all hatred on some fans, i like the show, but you know sometimes in some episodes i disagree because it doesn't go along to the superman mythology, especially lana in that power suit absorbing kryptinite. and plenty of other stuff. i mean there isnt that much stuff that goes against the mythology, but besides all that they sorta performed excently.. well on Some of lexs scenes.

Have to admit, the comparison has occured to me. She's a girl reporter, etc. But does it really matter? Lois is in the show, so when she becomes a reporter (if she has after season 5, dont tell me) then she will be the reporting lois lane...

The fact that it doesnt follow the original origin story doesnt bother me. Smallville is a new version for a new generation, the basics are the same but little hints of this or that have been added. It's the only way you can make a show like Smallville, otherwise it'd be called Superboy and it wouldnt be anywhere near the same show.
I am following the show right now on DVD, I'm up to season 5, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. ESPECIALLY Lex Luthors character - perfectly written.

Not the case for all of us.
Smallville does reach a much broader audience than Superman would. I liken it to Stargate SG-1 which ran for ten years, and could easily have run for five more, because it's more down to earth than Star Trek... Smallville is more down to earth than a Superman series would be. Both Smallville and SG-1 have a huge female audience, which isnt typical of Superman. This is why it's gonna run, I believe, for atleast ten years.

But you cant compare L&C with Smallville. Not by a long shot. Smallville is actually written intelligently, focusing on drama instead of goofy comedy and sexual innuendo.

SV is written intelligently? They have good writing at times (and L&C also had bad writing at times) but to act as if Smallville is so superior is an exaggeration. The ep 'Power' was insulting to the viewer & Superman fans. My jaw dropped when Lana used her superspeed in slow motion smiling at Clark. The girls in the show (especially Lois) wear skimpy clothing and bikinis. SV is full of sexual innuendo, mostly coming from Lois. L&C wasn't exactly a drama, but it wasn't a goofy comedy either.

Lois and Clark is a goofy, cheesy comedy show as far as I can see - it's difficult to take seriously at all.

L&C had goofy and cheesy moments, but its still overall a good show (seasons 1-2).

I like Lois and Clark, I watch it occasionally when I stumble across it on the tube, while channel surfing, but it's not what I call high drama or anything - it suffers from being made in the early 90s: it's basically episodic in nature like most old shows - the continuity stuff (some people call it soap opera stuff) wasnt really used back then, except in soaps ofcourse. And that's why I watch TV - the long engulfing storylines that make me come back again and again.

You mean Seasons 1, 2, 3, & 4. There is 4 seasons of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I got the entire series on DVD. I think it is the best Superman series ever and the first one I loved when I was little then Superman The Animated Series/Justice League/Justice League Unlimited as the second best since they really do follow the comics and now Smallville as the third best.

Adventures of Superboy I do remember watching it when I was very little but I don't remember what happens in it though. Of course I do love the movies. However I used to love Superman Returns when it first came out but now I think it wasn't all that good and Singer basically ruined it like Schumacher ruined Batman with the last 2 movies before Batman Begins and The Dark Knight came out.

Well, there are superman fans and then smallville fans. This show is really old though - I watched it when I was little... loved it. Loved the first superboy better though.
