  • Furthermore..Jack Tunney takes no shit from anyone!

  • bill eadie(axe) took time off for health reason. so crush and smash was the 2 demolition members left.

  • So who was Jack Tunney?

Vince was behind WWF even back here wasn't he?

  • @stufaman Jack Tunney was the onscreen "WWF president", much like Sting is in charge on Impact wrestling right now. A figurehead. And of course, Vince was behind/in charge of WWF back then.

  • @speedbuggy So he was just a cover character. I sometimes wondered if The Million $ man character was a warm up for Vinces own personoa.

  • For Real, Ax left the WWF because of Health issues.

  • RIP Jack Tunney who is sadly no longer with us - he was actually Canadian, not American.

  • Is it true that there was one-one from wwe at tunneys funeral?

  • @RhodesLives

Nobody from WWF attended, according to Wikipedia.

  • Demolition were the best when it had Ax and Smash. They they started to suck when Crush was added. No disrespect towards Brian Adams(RIP) but that's how I felt 21 years ago.

  • Tunney really seemed to be in charge of the WWF/WWE compared to Vince back then. He did'nt let Vince turn him into one of his stooges.

  • This is how you wrap up a story line. today it would just read Ax has been future endeavoured on the wwe website. Hell, today there would not be demolition, mr fuji, lod or any of them because theyu don't care about tag teams or managers...Why do I watche anymore? habit?

  • And so ends the era of Ax.

That's the moment Demolition died as far as I'm concerned.

  • breach of ethics!? lol love teh old school wwf!

  • Bill Edie left the team and it was just Smash and Crush!

  • When Axe had to retire due to ill health and Crush came in it was over for what was a great team.

  • @Pulpedtoafiction31 In their shoot interview, Ax said that all he had to do was take his heart medication and he would be fine. The reason they brought in Crush was Vince didnt want him dying in the ring.

  • When was Ax (Bill Eadie's) final WWF appearnce? some say it was the 1990 survivor series, others say it was a couple of weeks after that??

  • Agreed all. The "evil boss" character is completely playd out & passe. Can we PLEASE go back to the unseen & unheard from (NOT the "anonymous" boss either) boss...unless in dire instanceslike a vacancey or suspension. McMahon has said about the PG rating & lack of "attitude," that they'd gone about as far as they could go in that direction, so in order to go 4ward, they'd hav to go back again first. Well Vince, if that's the case, ditch the ominous boss angles. BTW - turn Cena heel 4 our sake!!

  • Jack Tunney was probably the best long-term authority figure they had. He was impartial and acted like you would expect a President to act, without being a character.

  • @MystikWizard Agreed; some people didn't always like his decisions, but Mr. Tunney seemed to do a very good job as President. RIP Jack Tunney :-(

  • PUBLIC SERVICE MESSAGE: The criminal immigrant beaner wetback known as mysterio, is a foul, smelly, crap-in-the-pants piece of garbage.

  • so long ax & very well following sato being replaced by the masked kato & sato returned during the summer of 1991 in a series of 6 man tag team bouts & only had 1 tv appearance with kato & tanaka losing to the british bulldog ricky steamboat & the texas tornado which aired on the summerslam 91 special on USA network

  • Comment removed

  • @stone85 - The WWF could very well have called the Kato & Tanaka version of the Orient Express, Bad Company, as it was Pat Tanaka's AWA Bad Company partner Paul Diamond under the mask. Interesting notes: Pat Tanaka is now the referee/trainer 4 Hulk Hogan's MCW (Migdet Championship Wrestling) on True TV, & did u know that after Konnan left the WWF after briefly playing the masked wrestler Max Moon, Paul Diamond took his place as that character. Bret says Konnan also taught him the sharpshooter.

  • Jack Tunney would make a better president than Obama.

  • stupid ruling jack tunney

  • always heard it was part of LOD signing with the company that Demolition wouldn't be put over and pushed after the LOD feud so LOD could "kill off" Demolition... between tanking Demolition -AND- Power of Pain for LOD, LOD then turned around, refused to have any taped footage of their title loss and half a year later bailed outright... professional

  • @Schaefster82 Demolition and the Powers were Vince's answer to The Road Warriors, so once the Warriors were signed he really didn't need the others anymore. The Powers were already broken up before LOD got there though.

According to Animal's autobiography, there was no taped footage because the match never happened. Hawk failed a piss test and was suspended so the "house show title change" was the on-screen excuse to why LOD were no longer champs. Animal never bailed either, Hawk did.

  • @KHayes666 No, the Powers of Pain wrestled in NWA before they ever worked for Vince

  • @NukeIt2Bdone I know.....I'm just saying the Powers made their debut in mid 1988 in WWF as babyfaces with the same look as the Road Warriors. But they didn't get over at all....hence the heel turn

  • Jack Tunney reads the prompter (or the cue cards) very presidentially...

  • @Derby14 Tunney may not have been very exciting as far as talking goes for an "authority figure", but unlike many authority figures, he never seemed to hog the spotlight. He'd only do his stuff "from his office" when necessary.

  • @DukeofColumbia: I totally agree and would like to add a point: I think Jack Tunny is a symbol of what WWF wrestling used to be.....more authentic....more 'real'.

  • @iwanttoseemrshow exactly, back in thge 1980s they tried to make this kind of thing out as legit as the Commissioner of the NFL, MLB, or NBA. Well, maybe not the last one.

  • Big News!

  • I recall Smash & Crush wrestling in singles matches after Wrestlemania VII.

  • So Long Ax.

  • This was all done because Ax of Demolition had some severe health issues which forced him to step away from the ring for sometime. After Ax left WWE, Smash and Crush were the remaining members of Demolition. Demolition Smash and Crush would lose to teams such as The Rockers, Legion Of Doom, and The Bushwhackers after Ax left WWE, there last match together was at Wrestlemania VII against Tenryu and Kitao, where Demolition was at the losing end. Demolition was a great tag team!

  • @MrSUCH84 Actually they got some wins in Japan 1 week after Japan and again they teamed up on a tour in September 91.

  • @MrSUCH84 Yeah, I heard Ax's health issues was because he developed an Allergy to shellfish while he was in Japan, so Crush took over. It sucks that Demolition was demoted used as enhancement talent for guys like The Rockers, Nasty Boyz, L.O.D and any other up and coming Tag Team. Such a shame too, I guess they saw Demolition's star fading due to The Road Warriors. They pretty much phased them out.

  • @EricV1 Actually Bill Eadie(Ax / Masked Superstar & very damn near the nxt WWF champion aftr Backlund's 1st reign (Backlund was allowd 2 choose his successor & wantd some1 w/ actual wrestling ability. It came down 2 Masked Superstar & the Iron Shiek!))...Actually Bill Eadie was diagnosed as havn an irregular heartbeat, & although he was ceared to wrestle, Vince was scared to death about him having a heart attack in the ring.(This info comes from Bret Hart in his autobiography.)

  • @NxDragon76 Ohhhh that makes more sense. The stories I always heard was him and that shellfish story, but this makes more sense with him having heart problems and Crush takes his spot. But it was to no avail sadly as Demolition was a shadow of what they once were.
