  • building a huge spaceship on the ground is fake. A large spacecraft would be built in orbit.

  • Unlike others I really wanted to like this film, REALLY. But it was so bloody awful I could barley watch, yet it was like a car crash too. I wanted to look away but I couldn't. When it ended I kept expecting Bobby from Dallas to walk out of a shower, or the hollowdeck to shut off and Quork refusing to give out refunds. Even an image of Roddenberry’s head exploding would have made the film; Anything to say that it was not really a Star Trek movie.

  • This movie is Bloody Horrible. I was one of the few that was really looking forward to it and then I saw this trailer. I decided not to judge it and watched the whole movie. I was amazed that when it was over I still had my sanity. The audience was eating up every minute of this trash. They laughed at deadly allergies, wowed over crappie effects, and loved the bear factory scenes. Where was I Bizarro World were good movies are hated and bad movies are loved?

  • @SofterTako. I must still be in Bizarro world because you are very much mistaken. You like it fine, but it is not a good film. Kid Kirk is The Bionic Boy, Vulcans claim to have no emotion yet they show it more than humans, Elevators are magic boxes, Ice monsters don't have fur, Kirk's life is manipulated by the force, the bad guy is a wishy washy imbecile, The ultimate weapon is liquid goo that never acts the same way twice, and Old Spock is stuck in a rerun of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

  • @SofterTako. The crew is a copy of the Beverly Hill's 90210 cast, the bad guys ship can wipe out whole armadas but can’t take down one little ship ramming it, babies are born at light speed, shuttle crafts are faster than the larger ships with more powerful engines, the military promotes snot nose jerks to captain and gives them the best ships while hard working solid officers don't get past commander, and the plot stinks too. I at least admit that some movies I like are bad (GODZILLA 1958)

  • @elocoplaya It sounds very similar to "Malice Rising" which is also very good.

  • can't believe they distroyed planet vulcan!!!

  • this trailer ROCKS !! does anyone kno the dvd release date?

The movie looks cool, but I'm a noob when it comes to Star Trek ;p

  • I saw it in IMAX last night.

    I enjoyed it a lot.

The thing about movies is that the story plot does not have to conform to a TV season format. The next movie can build upon this one...or ignore it.

Easy to ignore this one, it's about a wrinkle in time that changes everyone's life. A very good way to update Roddenberry's original characters to a more 'today' environment so the new audience can relate and the old audience appreciate.

    Go see it!

  • Nice intelligent comment.

  • Since this presents the 'formation' of an alternate time line, the official cannon of the original Star Trek does not need to be adhered to in the strictest terms. Especially when you have two Spocks!!

  • no it doesn't, this movie is awesome.

  • I AM SO FUCKING WATCHING THIS!

  • cool

  • Does the film provide a reason WHY he drives a priceless vintage 'Vette off a cliff?

Or is it just, "Because it looks cool?!" :(

  • THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOM!!!! I CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN!!!....i hope it goes to DVD soon!

  • what is the song to this damn trailer!

  • It's actually from SciFi's Children of Dune soundtrack by Brian Tyler. I believe the track is called War Begins.

  • *Warning slight Spoilers*

The new movie is disgrace. 6 Billion dead, you don´t care, Spocks mother dies, you don´t feel anything but a special effect rush.

That is when jews take over the making of movies completely. The movies become emotionless, without any style and art. They become nothing special.

Even the military gets its benifit. They should have put a slogan at the beginning and the end of that movie. "Join the military" Look how they talk.

  • You find out why Kirk calls McCoy Bones but it's so stupid you will be disappointed.

  • im going to see this with my boyfriend. it looks amazing!

  • is this legal? r u video taping in the movies? lol

  • you should just see it just as a big fu to george and the way he ruined my beloved sw

  • dont understand why they destroyed spocks planet of vulcan in this movie & killed his mom, when its suppose to be a prequel of the show, it dont make sense, cuz on the show spock's planet vulcan was ther as it allways was, if its suppose to be a prequel they fucked it up, by that, & if they are starting the whole story over, like the show never happen'd, then that fucked it up too, iether way star trek is fucked, they should have did the movie based off william shatner's book collision course

  • your confused, poor guy.....

  • Poor Script and not a great movie. It was just ok. I don't want to spoil it but my son (Who is 10) noticed a major flaw in the story as well as I did.

  • personally i really enjoyed the film, i can see what flaws you may be referring to but at the end of the day i took the stance that it was a bit of fun, if you approach the movie in such a way, i think youll really enjoy iy, i was captivated

  • pshhh w.e

  • It was ok. I'm not a fan of the series and I kinda liked this one.

  • This movie is a must see its funny, it has action and brings some new things to the table of star trek that is why you must see this movie

  • I admit: it was a well-made and entertaining film. But many of my fears were realised: Time travel and alternate universes in Trek have been done-to-death already. Also, the 'vengeance for my dead wife' plot motivation? Oh please! And playing Scotty purely for laughs is an insult to the memory of James Doohan and the dignity he brought to his character. Also: Enterprise just being launched with Pike in command? No! Kirk making Captain in his early 20s? NOT even in the gravest of wartimes. B-

  • they never had beam tec yet maybe i dont know what year the movie is supposed to be ?

  • i cant waite too see this movie trekie 4life

  • The movie was fucking awesome!!!!

  • I just saw Star Trek - what the hell is Red Matter? the Vulcan star ship looks and moves like an egg beater, Spock is dating Ahura, the Romulans have a giant drill to place black holes to destroy planets (couldn't they have beemed it?!)

Its a pretty good movie, action packed, moves at a good pace, clean movie, good special effects, very faithful to the spirit of Star Trek, audience was clapping and cheering to the classic Star Trek lines and references.

  • This movie was really really great, seen the midnight show WELL worth the watch 4.7/5 Stars

  • I never really liked the television series; there was never enough going to to interest me. But this movie have a lot of action, and looks pretty good.

and to imahamina-what the heck have you been smoking?

  • Why didn't you like TOS?

  • I saw Star Trek the first time around all those years ago and this movie by JJ Abrams looks like it is going to do it a credit.

  • I don't know... Star Trek was always more about the interactions between the races, the politics, the discovery of new places, and a sense of adventure. This seems to be more about big battles and epic explosions. Looks as if Micheal Bay had a lot of input in this film.

  • Saw the movie. The Romulans came back in time to go after Mr. Spock. Excellent Movie. Also, one of the Original cast members dies but comes back at the end.

  • wicked!

  • Wow. Star trek 2009 is better in visuals. I couldnt take anymore of the green screen and funny looking people in the old ones.

  • 0:27-0:31 = awesome

    0:32-0:34 = gay

  • I'll just throw this out there. Some of these movies are more real than most know. Conspiracy theory mostly = conspiracy fact. Truth is stranger than fiction. Area 51 secret projects financed by War & Drugs. 55,000 Americans died, God knows how many Vietnamese. War is a money making machine, add the golden trangle drugs. There's your money to back engineer alien technology. (Yes they're real) Build Starships etc. Watergate was a smoke screen. They finance this stuff of the books. Project Camelot

  • Why in the hell does he just drive the car off the cliff?

Yes there is a cop chasing him, but sending the car plunging off the edge while leaping out of it is just insane.

  • watch the movie and find out.

  • I think he was trying to commit suicide... It says that he always feels like he doesn't belong, doesn't fit in with the world.... However, having never seen Star Trek in my life, I would say this seems like a cool movie. I can't wait to check it out.

  • dramatic effect?

  • ITS NOT A HOLODECK. its when Kirk was young, trying to run away from his stepfather. Trust me I saw the press release at Paramount studios

  • "Why is this Robocop guy interrogating Kirk out in the desert? Why does Kirk have a really old car?

    Why is Kirk wearing black?"

I will answer these 3 in order; That isn't robocop thats just a sorta cyborg-robot thing thats a police officer. The thing about the car, its like today, why do people still have really old cars and still drive them, cuz the cars are classic, by the way the car is an old corvette The thing about Kirk being in black is cuz he was snuk in by the Doc when Kirk faced chrges

  • Thanks for uploading in HD. Awesome quality!

  • this is going to be an awesome film. some of the shots they show in trailer look really cool and i am totally looking forward to seeing this both in theaters and again when i can rent it on VUDU.

  • Congratulations. a bunch of arrogant twerps have managed to take the most mature and sophisticated sci-fi franchise ever known and turned it into just another fan-boy wet dream of explosions and macho posturing. Roddenberry's turning in his grave right now.

  • Okay, last fucking time: THE BOY IS SAYING "TIBERIUS!!!!!!" All y'all who think he's saying anything else, get your ears waxed out!

  • I've heard that "Paramount" might not show "Star Trek" in Cineplex theatres in Canada. If this happens all Canadian fans Should Fucking Boycott All Paramount Productions!

  • We haven't even heard him speak yet!

  • Spock>Sylar.

  • look crap and i perfect old school Star Trek :-)

  • LMFAO

    you people.

    really.

  • *LMFAO you people. really.*

If vigorous and intelligent discussion bothers you so much; why get annoyed? Why participate? The You-Tube comments facility was born for this very reason. Don't read it if upsets you! Something that has had 40+plus years and billions of dollars spent on it is WORTH discussing. Those of us who want to participate, regardless of opinions - who says we don't have the right? Your "Oh you guys etc" is as good as saying we can't! Whatever, I'm done here (yay! some'll say

  • calm down.

    i didn't mean you shouldn't discuss it.

i just found the discussion amusing.

  • Thanks for your interest and I'm glad to supply you with entertainment! Though I hope somewhere in all this you haven't missed the point.

  • noob

  • "Something that has had 40+plus years and billions of dollars spent on it is WORTH discussing" (MattBlak1)

That is certainly the case when it comes to non-fictional topics; for example the NASA space programme. However, when it comes to a science fiction franchise.....i think not. By all means discuss it, but be sure to double check your evaluation of the topic's worth.

  • Good point, but a bit of a stretch. Don't get me started about poor NASA: something I know a fair bit about!! Nearly a TRILLION bucks was doled out recently to support crooked banks and financial institutions, while space exploration - one of America's most worthwhile pursuits - got DIDDLY-SQUAT!! NASA is ultimately more worthwhile than Sci-Fi but if Americans don't save their space program, Sci-Fi will be all you're left with. I'm NOT exaggerating!!!

  • NASA gets almost $20 BILLION dollars every year....and gives us shuttles that blow up.

  • NASA currently gets less than $17 billion per year: LESS than 0.6% percent of the Federal Budget. The sales tax take from tobacco, chewing gum and even the taxed income from porn is far greater than NASA's budget. NASA knows that flying Shuttles is risky, which is why they want to retire them in a year or too. But the silly Ares 1 Shuttle-replacement design is flawed too, mark my words. It is amazing they have only lost two crews in 23 years, but its a subject that should'nt be made into a joke

  • Actually, correction: they get less than $19 billion -- I forgot about the one-off sum they got from the stimulus package, a comparitive chicken-feed.

  • thats why we are sending unmanned probes to other planets, plus the radiation would kill any man, but NASA and the Air force have signed on the construction of the first space station to use Orbital drop shock troopers(not even kidding you) exclusive for marines* they would be trasported anywhere on this world in 90minutes. Then we are building Rods of God unmanned space station that will replace our nukes with kinetic rodes, our future WMD, both stations will operate by 2020.

  • That is one of the stupidest statements i've ever heard. Your first fact is from a conspiracy website, and we are currently working on renewing our Nuclear fleet with safer, longer lasting weapons. Rods of God? Are you fucking Kidding me? We won't even have cruiser size kinetic energy railguns till 2025 AT A MINIMUM.

  • the George W. Bush war ship is currently being built, the first of our fleet to have a Kinetic Accelerator Cannon, Radius of 200 Miles, thats not a conspiracy, thats a Fact. So why did we just dump 6billion in one of many U.S space stations? and the United Nations Agreed on disarming All Nuclear weapons, thats why they are being Thousands of nukes are being "discarded" as we speak,

  • First off, the UN NEVER agreed on that, Obama simply said he hoped for a zero nuclear policy. You know who else said that? CARTER IN THE 1970's! The George . Bush with Kinetic Accelerator Cannon? You have to be kidding me man. We do not and have not ever used a "Kinetic accelerator cannon". I'm in the army and i personally have never heard of the fucking thing. the Fact is, the closest thing we have to that is railgun, which wont be ready for another 15 years, and nowhere near what your saying

  • next NATO is placing small orbiting satellites that can send a small slug to any SAM based nuclear warhead, disarming it when it reaches to about 100-500 feet. These are All facts that are being pursued, if you think any of this is bullshit, than hopefully you will see the world tear itself one last time between 2012 and 2020, without Nukes, all conventional, hell, it's already begun, keep an eye out on Russia and how they are controlling specific points of Gas/oil to Europe.

  • wtf samus333999, u got that from the video game EndWar...loser

  • Endwar is a game whos facts are entirely Based on Tom Clancy, whos a super geek at looking into the future of mainly US operations. How about we continue this conversation in Owe, 11 years from now. Either that or i'll see you in hell.

  • Aust1n: wait till someone disses something you really, REALLY find important, then see how you feel! Then, you'll remember I told you so, probably with an ironic smile. LOOK: I intend to enjoy this movie, truly. But Paramount Pictures has made a LOT of money out of folk like me. If I like the film, I'll see it twice at the cineplex and buy the DVD. If I don't, I wont. Simple. End of story. And now, I'll -- er -- chill if everyone else does!!

  • This mattblak guy is pissed.

Chill the fuck out. It's just a movie.

  • I'm not "pissed" -- which in my country means drunk -- I just don't take kindly to being insulted by anonymous bullies on the internet, and neiher should anyone!! If you met me in realife, you'd see I'm a mellow guy, a 'pussycat'. I was just stating some facts about a long-running series of FICTION that happens to mean a lot to MANY people. That is our right, isn't it? Since when did pointing out FACTS give others licence to BULLY others into silence by spouting Generation Y "coolspeak". Sheesh!

  • My dads loves star trek he I bet he started dancing when he heard this come out. Hes got a collection of star trek stuff in his wardrobe. LoL

  • SnypeDranged-. Continued: I've been a Trek fan for 40 years and I've embraced MANY continuity errors 'cause I've had to. But Nimoy's appearance in this film MAKES it important when mistakes are made. If they'd recast the older Spock too, then it wouldn't matter. You're the one who should CHILL, know-nothing!! I can't believe I'm even wasting time correcting you -- Means I wasting time, too. Us longtime Trek fans: the likes of you can't take away ANYTHING from us. We're right, u not: accept it.

  • What you want is "Starship Troopers," not "Star Trek."

  • Chekov is clearly a teenager in this movie, not an adult. Uhura and Sulu I would estimate are only just in their twenties.

  • I'm curious: which established facts-- which is to say things explicitly stated in previous movies and T.V. shows-- are being contradicted here? Don't trot out the old "the Enterprise was built in space" thing; I know that has never been specifically stated.

  • Don't know yet how many years new film is set before the original series pilot "The Cage" which was set 12 years before "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (1st Season) . In the 3rd Season, it is CLEARLY stated that Chekov is 22 years old and Kirk: 34. Since this film has Captain Pike, BEFORE "The Cage", then Chekov would be 8 YEARS OLD!! with Sulu and Uhura not much more than that. These continuity violations CANNOT be explained away. If you try -- you are WRONG!!

  • Four pieces of advice.

    First: Chill.

    Second: Chill.

    Third: Chill.

Fourth: Realize that as wonderful as Star Trek is, it is nothing but a work of fiction. None of this shit ever really happened, it's just there for our entertainment and enrichment, and if something is out of place or inconsistent, OH WELL!

Sure, internal consistency is nice, but the world will not end if there's a gaffe, even a glaring one. So take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and get on with your life.

    'Kay?

  • "Ranged," me dear, it's very easy to spell.

As for my age, a lady doesn't reveal that, but I am well out of my teens, I can assure you.

When did I insult you? I just told you to chillax and not get so worked up wasting *your* time griping about things that, in the great scheme of the universe, don't matter a pair of foetid dingoes' kidneys.

Yeah, facts-- about a universe that doesn't exist! Thus, facts which-- like I just said-- really don't matter.

  • By insult, I meant the strong, trivialising of my strong pointing out of Star Trek canon facts. If the Tolkien estate allowed new fiction in his universe that changed some facts: just watch the L.O.T.R. fans squeal!! Look: long term fans long-ago integrated Trek into their lives to a point they may not even be conscious of anymore. But NOT me, though at times like this you'd be hard-pressed to know it! Apologies for some of my remarks, but please respect some folks passions. Contd:

  • Whether you realise or not, you/we may be contributing to the "dumbing-down" of popular culture: Peer-pressure & a trend of running-down established hi-quality drama/literature maybe in play here: e.g. Shakespeare, trad. music, poetry and good writing are being dismissed as 'old-crap' or "who cares, man; CHILL! It's only fiction". If we abandon quality & consistency we abandon STANDARDS. Star Trek isn't 'hi-brow', it's 'middle-brow'. But if we trash that, then whats next? Do we DARE find out?

  • By the way, I love the 'foetid dingoes' kidneys' reference -- I'm a HUGE 'Hitchikers Guide' fan!! I thought the movie made a few years ago was half-brilliant and half, er, dingoes-kidneys. I think they missed a chance to make an amazing movie, probably because they changed too much. I'm just wary they're doing the same thing to 'Star Trek'. But enough about that for now; you all know how I feel about that?! ;)

  • I hear you. But on the other hand, this new movie may well lead some folks back to the original series and the (mostly) top-quality tales it told. We can only hope, yeah?

Think about it: the folks who will be meeting these characters for the very first time will have over a hundred sequels (including the original series, the animated series and the first seven movies) to look forward to!

  • lol im one of those folks. I just saw the movie last night and it was SO AWESOME, i went home and wikied the whole franchise....err...too many series/seasons/movies for me to even comprehend what to start watching though!

  • Well, that's not the actual meaning of the word "insult," but I getcha.

Still, except for the 12-year age difference between Kirk and Chekov (which may still be there; we don't know, Pavel could have been a wunderkind), I'm not seeing any established facts being contradicted in this teaser.

    Apologies accepted. :)

  • The phrase is "case in point," and since you mention two things, it should really be "cases in point."

  • Some are, some aren't. As for the non-Trek nerds, the same can be said.

  • If you hadn't picked it up after all these years, Jim Kirk is into antiques.

Weird metal suits are a fixture of science fiction, have been since the 18th century.

    Which weird line from Scotty?

  • Get that tire patched.

  • Never happen; in the (animated) Transformers movie, Megatron was played by Leonard Nimoy, and he'd never turn against his old shipmates.

Come to think of it, Frank Welker played Megatron on T.V., and he provided the screams for Young Spock in STIII. So since he was Spock as well, he'd have no beef with the Enterprise either.

You want totally useless trivia, I'm your man.

  • Watch "The Cage" (the first ST pilot), which I'm guessing took place shortly before (or maybe after) this movie; in his early days Spock did show a bit more emotion than was later his habit.

  • When I met him at (of all things) a paintball tournament a few years ago, he was very kind and seemed humbled that after all these years people still loved the show.

I daresay that like anyone, he has his good days and his bad days, but nobody is all bad. And as many times as he's spoofed himself and done silly things on T.V., it's plain that his ego can't be all that huge. A real egomaniac wouldn't drop his trousers to show underpants bearing a big target on the back.

  • Why are so many people missing the fact that this is STARFLEET ACADEMY??

  • So a well-written script and competent performances make no difference to you?

And the correct phrasing is "couldn't give a ****," not "could." It's like the phrase "couldn't care less," which people so often get wrong when they say, "could care less."

  • Are you mad????? Uhura's fan dance was the high point of Trek V, and one of the classic moments of the whole series. Nichelle Nichols has said that she was incredibly flattered to be asked to show off her legs-- which, as anyone knows who's seen that sequence-- were still in excellent shape!

  • Lucas didn't steal anything; "Star Wars" was his tribute to all the movies and serials-- sci-fi and otherwise-- he'd grown up with and loved, and what he put together out of those disparate elements has proved to be greater than the sum of its parts.

The same can be said of Gene Roddenberry and the various inspirations that went into "Star Trek," such as the epic tales of Horatio Hornblower, who was the immediate inspiration for Jim Kirk.

Truth is, there are only seven stories in the world.

  • You can't say what Roddenberry would have thought or said about this film. Leonard Nimoy, however, has had nothing but glowing words for the film and everyone involved in it.

  • Actually I can say exactly what Roddenberry would have thought, based on what he had said about things in the past. Based on his wishes.

Yeah, and Leonard just so happens to be IN THE MOVIE. He just so happens to be an actor under contract to say and do certain things in regards to the film. I trust his judgement, but only so far. He is capable of poor choices.

  • No, you can't. You can only, "based on what he had said about things in the past" and "based on his wishes," make a guess.

But were you at his deathbed to hear it from him? Did you speak to Majel (God rest her soul) about his feelings? That of course is bearing in mind that she is in this movie, which I doubt she would have been if she had felt his vision was being desecrated.

As for Nimoy, you must be right. He must be nothing more than a puppet of Paramount, forbidden to speak his mind.

  • And exactly what old movie are they remaking here?

  • 1 was worth it just to see everyone reunited, and 5 was a good bit of fun in the Old West tradition.

  • 1) It's never been explicitly stated in any of the T.V. shows or movies that the Enterprise was built in space. Remember, that shot is at least 20 years before Kirk's command of the ship began, and the main action of the movie has to be at least 15 years before.

    2) They are equipped to defend themselves.

    3) Figure of speech?

    4) I didn't see any Jedi Knights or droids.

    5) The painters hadn't been in yet.

  • Why are there still horse-drawn buggies here in our 21st century? Why are there still Viking ships and dugout canoes and skin-covered coracles in this modern age?

People like the things of history, that's why!

  • I wouldn't sail my antique restored Viking ship off a cliff, though... I'd definitely keep the keys hidden from my twerp of a son, too!

    Hehe.

  • Aw, why not? I bet the Vikings did! Impulsive dudes, them Vikings. They loved Spam, you know, sang about it all the time.
