I've also been using the Masuda Method with my Ditto and my Japanese Magnezone for a shiny Magnemite, which hasn't worked either. At any rate, catching shinies in D/P/Pt is easier than in HG/SS because of the Poke Radar.

Any way you could upload a shiny Nidoran onto GTS? I've got some good non-cheated for legendaries I'd be willing to trade for. I've been trying forever to get one, and all I find are female Nidorans, Starlys, and Bidoofs. It's driving me nuts, and I've read all the guides, so I know what to do. If I could just find a male Nidoran I probably wouldn't be asking this, but could you consider that?

Chaining means you have to use pokeradar. And only kill 1 kind of pokemon. For example Roselia,you must keep killing roselia but if you face any other pokemon, your chain is ruined>:(

I have 20chain max only and got ruined by a effing taurus,while i was chaining for ponyta

Chaining is also a way on finding shiny pokemons rather than encountering them by normal play.Also "Masuda Breeding" is the easiest among the 3 ways,but still you need pokemon of other language in order to breed.

I got two shinies the old fashioned way in LG and Ruby. Leaf green I was running endlessly in grass patches until I found a shiny Sandshrew (Now level 100 Sandslash). The other happened after I accidentally turned Ruby on and walked a bit, and right before I hit the power switch... BAM! Shiny Golbat appeared! Now its a level 55 Crobat. I'm so proud of those two, I didn't need a gimmick or anything. (P.S. Ive tried chaining, I get to really high numbers, but no shinies :( )

Yes, that's why the chain counter is at chain40.

It's also a poke radar exclusive pokemon, so you have to use the radar in order to encounter it.

You can find it in the same place as I did, route 201. Be patient and only pick sparkling patches.

No not really, other than to just keep on following the basic rules of chaining. Even though, you did nothing wrong and picked the best patch, your chain can still randomly break. hey z33 its louis hope u remember me we talked on a few occasions before nd u gave me some advice. i got 5 nidoran (M)s aswell yesterday breaking my recoRd chain of 65 reaching 75:D i eventually ran out of repels but i have no regrets, i got what i wanted out of the chain. im training up my strongest/ best natured, one now :D

All you can do is hope for a random encounter the odds are 1 in 8192, same with legendary pokemon when you are doing soft resets.

I mean, I caught this at chain 40. When you reach chain 40, it will give you the best odds of finding a shiny pokemon, 1 in 200.

I had a chain of 40 buizels but i didnt get a shiny patch, why not??

When you reach chain 40, it doesn't guarantee you a shiny pokemon. Most of the time, a shiny patch doesn't automatically appear. You still have to reset the radar over and over again until the shiny patch appears. All you are doing by reaching 40 is increasing your odds of finding a shiny pokemon, around 1 in 200.

By chaining with the radar. Look around youtube for instructions on how to do it.

You can find shiny pokemon thru random encounters in the wild, hatching and doing soft resets in front of a legendary. When using the methods above, the odds of finding one is 1 in 8192. So, you aren't doing anything wrong. But the more you hunt, hatch and do soft reset, your odds will improve and you will eventually find a shiny pokemon. By chaining, you can improve the odds to 1 in 200.

While chaining, you can actually encounter a shiny patch right after a chain of 1. It depends on how lucky you are during that chain. Have I sent you something on how to chain?

I just looked in route 201 and I only picked sparkling patches. It didn't take long, maybe within 5 to 10 minutes.

yay!!!! i managed to see a nidoran male....but it broke at chain 3....now i'm searching for miltank....oh yeah...when i got to level 40....should i stop chaining and look for shiny??? for example....you found a shiny at level 40 then on level 41...can you still find a shiny??? and last question...if i found a shiny patch...let say at chain 40...if i let it go, will it come back if i search for it???

Question 1 Yes. Question 2 Yes. Question 3 Yes but if you've already use 40-60 max repels searching for the one you let go, you might have to advance the chain to 41 and start resetting the radar again.

waaaaaa......i let go of one of a shiny patch....just 4 experiment...and it didn't return.....i ended up at chain 60 with nothing...why is it like dat???

Well, it depends on your luck. The shiny patch would have probably come back again if you kept searching for it on the same chain by resetting the radar or if you only advanced the chain once and started resetting the radar after you let it go. Let's say that you started at 40 and advanced your chain all the way to 60, you are only giving yourself 20 chances to find a shiny. By resetting the radar over and over again at 40 or 41, after you let the shiny patch go, you give yourself more chances.
