  • my hand is too short

  • it's also my problem in the beginning. but a good practice makes it perfect

  • shame you keep missing the notes with your index finger

  • My hands are too small haha, but I can play it just fine using only my index and third finger, as long as you can switch between the frets fast enough its fine, but your wrist takes the toll.

  • my fingers hurt so much !!!!

  • The Police vid makes me nuts...Andy doesn't seem to play the same way all of us are. He's using different fingerings it looks like. Can't figure it out.

  • second chord is killer!!!!

  • cool i am one of the fantastic 4

  • what is ur amp settings?

  • The only hard chord is the 2nd, the rest is easy

  • Sorry - sorry. Corection to the last ( I just played it ). Its like a baree, but as a low septim, and your pinky on the sus2 note on the d-string. Thats the Andy Summers way.

  • Same problem as you have with " Message in a bottle ". Its picked like a chord. You are NOT to lift your finger in order to get the 4th tone. It takes a bit of flexibility. ( or longer fingers he he ). Play the figure as a baree chord. Place your indexfinger so you dont have to "tip" the 4th note.

  • im learning the very simple version of this song in a totally different key. I tried playing this version and it hurts my freakin wrist. I can play it, but it hurts so much xD

  • @TrueShinobi996 Yes, this one is a wrist-burner, for sure! Andy Summers is so underrated---I'm still finding out his stuff is not as easy to play as it sounds.

  • I am SOOOO JEALOUS!

  • my pinky's too weak

  • If this is hard, just try to play Shape of my heart by sting :D

  • at last somewhere actually taking their time in showing how to play this song, thanks a lot.

  • My fingers hurt. And it's not because of the 13s. Thanks for the video!

  • damn i've never had to stretch my fingers so much before

  • more of a bass song..but man good dexteritiy!

  • squire lol

  • super good pinky practice

  • God my fingers, my stupid small fingers !

  • you are awesome man thanks for the tutorial. i cant see why anyone would dislike this, it must have hurt their wrists too much and they couldnt learn the entire riff

  • what is the tunning???

  • @TheOfficialKreW standard tunning

  • @PrettyAmusing No its not man its Em i finally found out!

  • @TheOfficialKreW ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh haha

  • whats the guitar???

  • Bar on the second fret on the 2nd chord it helps to not have to stretch your fingers so much

  • @TPmasterz

I use a capo on 2nd fret and its much easier.

also on chord 3 i use my middle finger to bar the D- and G-String on 7th fret

and on 4th chord i do the same on the 9th fret

  • Comment removed

  • his hands are almost like the letter "W" ..

  • Comment removed

  • Andy Summers has rubber hands.

  • @LoonyLooners there key board chords...almost the same chors used in joe satrians "memories"

  • How the hell can I stretch that far??? My pinkie kept bouncing back... I need something to stretch it out... :(

  • gonna have to take a very deep breath to inflate the little finger to get it reach the 6th on the D. good instruction.

ringo in helter skelter.....i go blistas too

  • Fingers are a little sore, but awesome instructions! Practice wiil make me better. Thank you. :)

  • @MoonKnightEternal yeah i can reach all the frets and stuff, but this song is still a finger f*ck, even for intermediate players

  • He is awesome at guitar... ROCK ON!!!

  • not an as easy as it sounds i thought it was just standard twelve bar blues!

  • lisppppp

  • i need a knife to cut the spaces between my fingers so i can reach the frets.

  • Whats that pounding in the backround?

  • If I ever need to play this song live, I'm keeping a specially tuned guitar on standby.

  • A2,D5 and E5 are easy but F#m² are hard to hold for the beginning!!!

  • A2,D5 and E5 are easy but F#m² are hard to hold for a few seconds...!!!

  • Best solution for this grip; Drop you E to D, and grab 2 positions higher,

  • Thanks bro !

  • i dont know why but when i see your face i would like to punch it :D

  • thiis parts usualy played on bass

  • i realize by his fingers, that his fingers look smaller then mine or his fret board is smaller.... idk. but most should be able to by how many small fingeers i see do this!!!!!!!! :P

  • I have huge hands :P everyone says that :D and now I know that its nothing bad :D

  • Long fingers make it easy...mmm maybe not at all :D

  • this "F" comes from "Fuck"!

  • your playin it in the wrong key mate.

  • Fuck this song, my hands aint deformed enough to play it

  • Omg. ouch, my Fingers ....where is my Bass ? XD

  • thank you for the great lesson!!

  • Here is a simple trick. Tune your D string (third string from the top) up a whole step to E. Easy-peasy. Then just play a barred "A" chord on the 5th fret. Barred F#m on the 2nd fret. Barred D on the 10th and a barred E on the 12th. No more stretching!

  • Me explicas re bien PRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • btw if i cant play this song u cant play guitar ;)

  • i can play it and im 12 as i think i already said O_O

  • This is best cover but painfullest XD

  • I don't see what everyone's complaining about. the chords aren't THAT bad.

  • @russellband ikr im 12 and itz really easy O_o

  • "Stretchy chords"??? LOL, you gotta have special hands to play this riff! Thank you very much for showing us how to do it.

  • Haha it just takes a bit of endurance, after the pain goes away its a fun song to play [:

  • good video dude...and guys,,u can do it with a little practice..

  • omg you need hands big as toilet seats to play this xDD

  • @trafo2605 dude my hands are freaking huge and i still can do this.. fuck this song lol

  • Don't ever try this on acoustic, it don't work-.- i tried

  • @flyoverthemoonnow

    why???

  • @flyoverthemoonnow theres a couple good fingerstyle rendition of it

  • @mrghantauke HAHA Like me dude! xD

  • @mrghantauke x1000

  • good, but there's actually easier way to play it

  • hey this chord shape is a favorite of andy summers as in message in a bottle . this is just a regular A chord. you can try other finger position to make it easier if your not adapted to two fret stretch. be creative men

  • my hands are too small :(

  • @27039609 hahahaha

  • damn! my hands died after playing the second shape so much

  • What a finger workout! Love it!!! Thx

  • It makes my hands cramp!

  • could some one type it down or send it to me please i kinda got it but then i got confused

  • nice video amigo

  • Great video

  • Yeah the second riff position is quite hard.

  • @Jcm9991 you can play the A (2nd on G string) at 7th on the D string which I find makes it easier.

  • @adam2009ftm Hey thanks! That's a lot easier :)

  • is this tabs or do i need to know cords?

  • The second lick is such a damn stretch for the hands O.o

  • thats not a 1.14 mm pic is it i have the same in my hand haha

  • Wonderfull tutorial.

  • Hi my friend! Excellent video and very good performance! It very beautiful music!

  • This is a pretty cool video. I can play the first two notes and im practicing for the next two!

  • Hi this video was great because I can finally play this song now. I can master it by just playing it in the chord position as well but I prefer switching, it looks cooler. Thanks for the video :-)

  • its a stretch at first. i hope i get used to it

  • Wheres the rest of it?

  • it took me like 2 mins to get up to speed thanks for the vid ;)

  • LOL!!! Stretchy chords, this guy is retarded, their called 9th chords, it's a signature of the Police. They use them in message in a bottle too.

  • @Priziner It's an add9, not a 9th, smartass.

  • @Aardvarked88 Talking about the root chord....

For example: 3rd fret on the A, 5th fret on the D, and 7th fret on the G.

    is a 9th chord...

Your still wrong stupid shit biscuit.

  • Comment removed

  • @Priziner No, it's an A add9. A 9th chord is adding the 9th to a dominant 7 chord, while an add9 adds it without the 7th. Next time you want to call somebody a retard, make sure you know what you're talking about first. You might also want to learn to differentiate between "your" and "you're" so you can avoid making yourself look like even more of an idiot.

  • @Aardvarked88 Your absolutlee rite. I agree witch chew.

  • you´re a genius

  • nice squire. and not clean. dont want to sound cocky but it aint hard

  • nice squier bro

  • oooh my wrist... ;)

    but sounds good, thanks! :))

  • great ..thanks ..

  • Is that a David Gilmour sig guitar? She's a pretty axe.

  • whos having to party up stairs ? sounds like its going off get ya self up there

  • @sini180 I know! I thought my neighbors were partying again, no, it was in the video! lol

  • This stretched my fingers, I see why my friend says metal is kinda easy compared to THIS for a begginer like me :P

  • thank men very good lesson

  • easy riff ... but helpful video thanks

  • capo second fret FTW

  • Almost the same as Message in a bottle.

  • thank you

  • Dude that's the same effing guitar i have xD i mean the same pickguard ,rosewood neck .black color he only diference are the picks i have two single coil and one humbucket =)

  • @tusmejoresvideoss That would be a Humbucker.

  • thank you, adam.

    -from Rosario, Argentina-

  • wrong key..

  • HEY, im practicing this, and i would be sooo grateful if you gave me the tabs, you would be a life saver! THANKYOU

  • Just noticed - the whole song isn't here! What about the chords in the middle?

  • @key2kingdom DUDE! It says Main Riff.

  • Great post. Everything's correct, but isn't this entire arrangement is a semitone higher than the original song?

  • tanxxxx bro...

    very helpfulll.....dis tutorial...

  • thank's is helpfulllllll!!

  • try it with capo on second fret....its not so difficult!!!

  • i take it almost 2 hours to try it.. n feel strange... i think my tune was wrong or got something else.. but when read this comment i guest not me got the problem mayb.. anyway nice song here.. become more love it.. thanks bro..

  • i like how these show the strum pattern and the fret board its some of the best tutorials on youtube that ive seen. even if its in the wrong tune

  • Just down tune half step match album fine

  • this is wrong......wrong key man i play my guitar with this it's fine then when i play it with the song it seem sharpened or something and my guitar is DEFINATLEY in tune

  • bragging rights been playing 3 months and this isnt that much of a stretch. i know im a douche for saying it jsut had to show off a litle

  • if you have small hands just dont keep the chords set in place its muted so you dont have to let it ring.

  • genio

  • Is strechy chord a technical term?

  • those "stetchy" chords are called 9th chords...

  • good job, i accidently rated it 2 stars though because i was trying to pause it lol those chords are pretty hard though it makes my hand cramp i have small hands though

  • ive been playing for almost a year and i can do this no prob.. but i have enormous hands though...

  • lol i was hoping this would be one of those easy riffs to learn that only take three minutes. i was wrong.

  • @Amazongrassmonster really :P This one is the probably the hardest thing The Police had ever had, The only easy thing that you can do with it is to fingerpic. Great song!!!

  • I'm not 100% sure but I think the album version is a half step lower than this...so the roots are Ab-F-C#-D# on these add9 or suspended chords or whatever they are. I was trying to match it to the album version, but, like I said, not 100% sure.

  • dude bad ass guitar
