Question for the Peak Oil folks: If Russia has been drilling 40,000 ft into the ground for (lots of) oil, and the deepest known fossil fuels are about 15,000 ft, how can we say oil is merely a fossil fuel?

it's hard to see max keiser so thoroughly and uncritically embrace peak oil theory. the other other side of the story needs to be told. i suggest watching Col. Fletcher Prouty's explanation of how oil came to be classified as a "fossil fuel". from there, i recommend the work of long-time oil researcher and economist/historian F. William Engdahl- who just so happens to be a regular commentator on RT! Tell the people Max!!!
@jacksoncarreras i saw a video on col. prouty, the way i see it what he is advocating is semantics of labeling of oil to fossil fuel. he never said anything about oil being unlimited. like anything in the universe it is finite, eventually it will run out, the more it's sucked out of the ground the quicker it will run out, common sense. PEAK OIL, who is to know? some say yes some say no, but again there is a finite amount of it out there.
@jacksoncarreras Theres no other side of the story. Fossil fuel or not, wells still follow a bell curve of extraction. All wells on the planet do, oil well discoveries as well. The importantant thing is not that we run out of oil, that's quite irrelevant. We get in trouble when global demand will crash will extraction rates, and prices soar. No matter how much extra wells we find, we won't find one comparing saudi oil. Expensive oil shuts down our economies, which require infinite growth.
@MrLukasart why just because he is stating a fact, that he believes will be taking place? about the sustainably of population post peak oil, he's right, there will be a great die off of people. oil is in everything....without it we're screwed....
I've been waiting for this report- peak oil is the subject nobody wants to confront.
Millions of jobs lost, oil prices set to rise ,costs to industry rising- all tied together.
Food was not addressed in this report !
What about transportation (via ships and jets) to countries which import most food produce? When costs for transportation of food increases due to rising oil costs, surely prices of food will increase, food supplies will run low in a few decades or sooner.
If you notice ENGLAND is actually more trubal'esque. In Cornwall(south west of England) where its older then PRIMITIVE Rome, they still speak in their ancient mother tongue. In fact they want to be INDEPENDENT from England.
Thats just O N E example.
True England is a touch yankkk'enstein esque. I say stick your OWN race for marriage. Open to all for friendship.
Well the POLY'TIKs & banksters will taste insurrection by us PEASANTS. In time.
Not a conspiracy, brain-dead. I will write s-l-o-w-l-y for you. Peak oil is an erroneous hypothesis. Ask yourself: qui bono? Have you heard of OPEC, for example. The oil industry BENEFITS from "scarcity" - oil prices rise (duh). In a post-industrial age, controlling the distribution of energy (and credit) controls the development and economic growth or lack thereof, in those countries....
@mrscambuster100 listen, if there was plenty of oil left, why would bp drill thousands of feet bellow the sea level when the costs are higher especially if all the light oil are mostly gone. All thats left is the heavy and bitumen oil left which costs more energy. Now tell me if in some miracle the OPEC nation have organized themselves in secret and planed to deceive the world to believe there is no oil left ;then you are whatever you think you are.
@mrscambuster100 So according to you they meet and they plan to profit by drilling for more expensive oil. But just look at what the US did they drilled cheap and quickly and soon after about 50 years of oil production, it fell in the 70s and now the US is producing nearly as much as they did in the 1950! And its has about twice the population with 3 times the demand! Why would companies in the us deliberately let their government purchase OPEC oil if they have supposedly billions of barrels
No, according to you, not me. Start with eye on the Prize - Daniel Yergin. Western oil companies like Standard oil and Dutch Royal Shell drilled WORLDWIDE BUT LOST CONTROL DUE TO NATIONALIZATION..Big Oil/Bank's compelled Western powers to INVADE countries (at the public's expense) to gain control over these fields over the past 60 years up to present. e.g. BP has Iraqi oil concessions.
Finally, Kissinger made deals with Mid-East/OPEC in the 1970s to sell oil in USD at low prices and BUY US DEBT (Treasuries) like trade with China today. Deep well 30,000+ (abiotic?) represents A miniscule fraction of the costs and investment in total oil extraction of Western big oil. SEE THE BIG PICTURE: THE PRECIPITATION OF THE *POST* - INDUSTRIAL AGE!!! ITS ABOUT DE-POPULATION. Its JUST MALTHUSIAN PROPAGANDA.

Yo Max how can you be so fickle you swallow the propaganda and choke on it at the same time. Look at the government for their part in this disaster ...who gave the permits, who forced the drilling to deep water, and why!... dig deeper, please I really enjoy your show and I respect your views. Why is there almost no drilling in land? is it because i peace time the rigs don't need to be protected? just a thought, but please look deeper you have the resources I don't.
First half of the video was good but the liar talking about Peak Oil is a scammer. It's a ploy by the corporations to create artificial scarcity and jack up prices. The same banking and oil conglomerates that push the peak oil myth also buy up effective alternative energy resources such as a revolutionary solar panel made at MIT university. It's an excuse for them to keep us dependent upon on oil and at the same time charge us more for it with the absence of a free market.
It is doubtful that ALL other energy sources cannot be developed before a post-industrial, depopulation age is fait accompli and unavoidable. What about improved extraction techniques? Synthetic oils? What about Nuclear power? (too dangerous: 3 mile island, chenobyl, rogue state WMD nukes - more convenient truths), solar, thermal, wind, wave - No its horse and buggy and one child policies or global collapse. Time to break out the Jonestown Kool-aid!

Max says deflation, the guest says inflation and the governments can't print more money. I have no idea why governments can't print more money... if they all agree that everyone needs to print more money, they could equalize the value of the currency, so no one country plummets financially.
It would be premature to conclude that absolute peak oil has arrived. Peak oil may yet be descredited like other Hegelian Thesis of Co2 man-made global warming, Iraqi WMD, Al-Qaeda global terrorism, consumer-based debt crisis, It has some of the earmarks of a "convenient truth" (for the global bankers et. al.), who need excused for international control, financial austerity and depopulation "solutions"
Pemex the mexican oil company is rid it from the cartel of Texas, why buz They had an agree that mexico supply oil to the corrupt oil companies of Texas (bush, rotschild, etc. mafia) and then they pay back with refin oil, easy pay,but the game is over, buz Mexico is changing and We don't need that, the mex oil company is making two new oil refineries now, thats the way to create 5 millions jobs direct and indirect and coming more after all this. so no more illegals in US
IT's true about Cantarell is decline it 30% and more domino effect in this place but the records show that mexico has another 3 major reservoirs than cantarell, one is offshore in merida,Yucatan, the other is between the states of Veracruz and Puebla, the third is in Chiapas, the problem is the gov dont want to drill buz in the future it will be expensive that is better to mantain it there,so mexico dont want to export more oil buz if u have a lots of oil u have future.
peak oil is an anglo-zionist disinformation piece. russia found 500 billion barrels, the deep gulf has 100 billion barrels, venezuela 1.5 trillion to 5 trillion. peak oil =city of london lie as royals and rotschilds have money in oil. rupert is disinformation. cia. 911 was a city of london job, bp deep gulf burn down was 'engineered' to implement carbon trading market by english crown/rotschilds.
@telemarker77 I agree. The peak oil fear mongerers predicted the world have used all of their oil reserves by 2020. It's 2010 and there are new oil depsits being found all over the world. Even Cuba has found a vast amount of oil. Max's guesst was clearly lying through his teeth. Although this was still a good show thanks to Max and Stacy
@johan404 There are reserves in Canada, North Dakota, Mississippi, Alaska, Michigan, California, Illinois, Denver, and Texas. And there are plenty more in North America. There are oil reserves in Canada that can feed the whole world's oil addiction for 100 years. Dude do the research for yourself. I mean come on. You have the internet and a computer. Don't be a sheep. I'll even send you a video on the subject.
@lorenzo8500 Well first of all, nobody is saying we're running out of oil. What people like Ruppert are saying is that we're running out of cheap oil, which they admitted in the video you sent me. Tar sands are 3-5 times more expensive than light sweet crude, that means oil prices will go up 3-5 times, at least. Can you afford $10/gallon gas prices? What will that do for economic growth which is already stagnating at $75/barrel prices? What matters is the rate of extraction, and EROEI.
@johan404 Wrong. The Saudi's get the oil for less than 5 dollars a barrel and we pay 75.00 a barrel. But yet we are paying between $2.75 to $3.00 at the pump. That's price manipulation. It only would cost $16.00 to extract from the tar sands. And the oil would be already in th U.S. to ship all across the country. Your 3-5 times cost is a outrageous lie. Just because we can't find cheap oil does not mean America can't benefit from it. We have the technology, and we have the workforce.
@lorenzo8500 No it's not price manipulation, it's supply vs demand, and it's called making a profit. Who is going to pump oil if they will go bankrupt doing so? And how would tar sands magically cost $16/barrel when now they cost at least $25/barrel, if not more? Monetary deflation? Semantics.
You oversimplify this issue, and you underestimate the importance of oil in industrial civilization. It's connected to EVERYTHING.
@johan404 It is price manipulation. Gasoline was $4.00 dollars a gallon at $150 dollars a barrel during Bush's presidency. And gasoline is now $3.00 a gallon at $75.00 a barrel. I was pointing out how it only costs $16.00 a barrel to get oil from the Bakken. I'm not sure about the tar sands. The Bakken has enough oil to feed the U.S. for 41 years. The tar sands can feed the worlds oil need for 100 years. The price would stabilize if we got our oil within North America.
@lorenzo8500 Obama is closing down offshore drilling. What do you think that's going to do to the price of oil? Would you like to pay $4.00, $5.00, $6.00 or how about $7.00 at the pump. Green jobs cost Americans 2.2 or 2.3 jobs. You do the math. Until we find a real viable energy source other than oil then we need to stop living in a fairytale.
Wouldn't it be great to have Max and Stacy on your nightly news Channel in some form or another telling the TRUTH! Instead you are left with the greatest bunch of Bull Shit Artists the World Has Ever Known. It's no wonder the US is a country of Mixed Up Idiots who wouldn't know the truth if it slapped them in the face on any front. Good Luck America.
Max is so funny when he can't, (for a split second) decide which of his two shows he is on when Stacy leaves for the second half. On the other hand if I were sitting next to Stacy Herbert I would have trouble knowing where I was as well. :)
Oil Shortage? HUMBUG! Theres no shortage! its all over the beaches, just take a tote and fill er up, no charge! I hear they are even paying people to pick it up!!! Suckers!!!!
Wow so much going on, BP after destroying wild life now wants to join up with Google to divert attention from the disaster by redirecting users to its web site? I bet that there's no injured birds & other poor unfortunate wildlife even posted there? The sooner they plug that hole the quicker the environment can heal up. Times like these you'll think why for many years we're still using dirty old oil for energy. Take a page from Star Trek & use matter and antimatter generators to produce energy.
Wow, so now Venezuela has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia!?
It's called 'bitumen', the same stuff as found in Canada, better known as 'tar-sands'. Venezuela simply reclassified all of their bitumen as 'oil' to shoot up the list of countries with the biggest reserves.
You simply fell for it.
I'm not going to preach here. Read up on bitumen / tar-sands yourself and how energy intensive it is to process and refine.
there is no peak oil, its a scam for oil producers to invoke scarcity and raise prices.. oil is not a fossil fuel it is renewed within the earth just as the blood is renewed within our bodies..
@badstacksize yes it's renewable .... in like 500' million years........ thats why the world is driilling offshore ... right! risk everything for a bluff ...... spend 120 times more drilling 14k feet deep ....in the ocean ....as a bluff, because it's renewable yeahhh right!
@badstacksize Maybe, I don't know. But the rate at which oil is produced, even if it is "within the earth" is very slow. And considering the world economy is based on an infinite growth paradigm, the demand for oil increases ad infinitum. It doesn't matter if a country has 1000000 trillion barrels of oil if they can't extract it fast enough to supply the ever growing demand. Get it?
p.s. On deflation and inflation: U better bet on both directions. Look everything cost more: commodities and labor cost. China increase labor pay and labor paid will be double and triple in 5 years. Now it's already 20% - 30% up. Wait and see! Everything U need will cost more, much more!
There are possibilities that defeat this guy's peak oil hypothesis.
1. Oil prices are not set by the market. They are simply "set" to further an agenda. The actual ability to produce oil is unknown to us little people.
2. If abiotic oil exists, oil is unlimited. We just need to break through the peak oil sham.
There's a debate whether or not oil synthesis is an abiotic process allowing for replenishing within our lifetime. Whether or not that is true, is irrelevant. There are numerous viable energy sources (not the hippie wind, solar, nonsense) that can easily replace oil so this idea about the destruction of industrial civilization can only come about if these energy sources are actively suppressed as they are being right now.
Why suppress other energy sources? The elite cannot control economies without being able to control a vital resource, in this case oil. Imagine a world with a machine that with a push of a button could give you all basic necessities. The idea of having an economy is nonsensical. The first step into that world is having an unlimited energy source. But the more important conclusion is that in that world there is no societal power structure and no dependency on one another.
@harveybirdmannequin Maybe. But it would take decades, trillions of dollars and billions of barrels of oil to build all these magical energy machines.
Sick of the BP Story? In PR that's what they call Crisis Management: Get ahead of the bad story because if you don't make several innocuous pieces in mainstream media then people will search to find the really bad information. Worse (in the eyes of BP), people might "really" demand accountability. Instead, we're continuously placated by BP media buddies, from the same elite club.
What the Banks are really saying is that Capitalism failed, and the can't even hold 3% cash on hand and remain profitable. They're also saying, regulations suck. The self-serving is doing noone good, but since all of you regulary support this mechanism... I'll bask in the glory with you. Hurray. We're being raped and we love it. Can we have more please?
@Plat465 If you think the BP spill is a disaster now, wait till there are no regulations or any regulatory authority to require precautionary measures or spill cleanup. Capiche?
@Dyhalto10 If you think the BP spill is a disaster now, wait till there are no regulations or any regulatory authority to require precautionary measures or spill cleanup. With all due respect, when will you see the light?
I dont think it is helpful to continuously use the terms 'inflation' and 'deflation' when this has specific reference to money supply, what max means by 'deflation' is actually capital 'devalorisation'
again the bellybutton-lint....

Riots for food supplies?

@mrscambuster100 listen, if there was plenty of oil left, why would bp drill thousands of feet bellow the sea level when the costs are higher especially if all the light oil are mostly gone. All thats left is the heavy and bitumen oil left which costs more energy. Now tell me if in some miracle the OPEC nation have organized themselves in secret and planed to deceive the world to believe there is no oil left ;then you are whatever you think you are.
Korianne75 1 year ago
@mrscambuster100 So according to you they meet and they plan to profit by drilling for more expensive oil. But just look at what the US did they drilled cheap and quickly and soon after about 50 years of oil production, it fell in the 70s and now the US is producing nearly as much as they did in the 1950! And its has about twice the population with 3 times the demand! Why would companies in the us deliberately let their government purchase OPEC oil if they have supposedly billions of barrels
Korianne75 1 year ago
@Korianne75
No, according to you, not me. Start with eye on the Prize - Daniel Yergin. Western oil companies like Standard oil and Dutch Royal Shell drilled WORLDWIDE BUT LOST CONTROL DUE TO NATIONALIZATION..Big Oil/Bank's compelled Western powers to INVADE countries (at the public's expense) to gain control over these fields over the past 60 years up to present. e.g. BP has Iraqi oil concessions.
mrscambuster100 1 year ago
@Korianne75
Its JUST MALTHUSIAN PROPAGANDA.

trashcanman1000 1 year ago
First half of the video was good but the liar talking about Peak Oil is a scammer. It's a ploy by the corporations to create artificial scarcity and jack up prices. The same banking and oil conglomerates that push the peak oil myth also buy up effective alternative energy resources such as a revolutionary solar panel made at MIT university. It's an excuse for them to keep us dependent upon on oil and at the same time charge us more for it with the absence of a free market.
meshblorg 1 year ago
It is doubtful that ALL other energy sources cannot be developed before a post-industrial, depopulation age is fait accompli and unavoidable. What about improved extraction techniques? lorenzo8500 1 year ago
@lorenzo8500 What reserves? How big? Be specific.
johan404 1 year ago
@johan404 There are reserves in Canada, North Dakota, Mississippi, Alaska, Michigan, California, Illinois, Denver, and Texas. And there are plenty more in North America. There are oil reserves in Canada that can feed the whole world's oil addiction for 100 years. Dude do the research for yourself. I mean come on. You have the internet and a computer. Don't be a sheep. I'll even send you a video on the subject.
lorenzo8500 1 year ago
@lorenzo8500 Well first of all, nobody is saying we're running out of oil. What people like Ruppert are saying is that we're running out of cheap oil, which they admitted in the video you sent me. Tar sands are 3-5 times more expensive than light sweet crude, that means oil prices will go up 3-5 times, at least. Can you afford $10/gallon gas prices? What will that do for economic growth which is already stagnating at $75/barrel prices? What matters is the rate of extraction, and EROEI.
johan404 1 year ago
@johan404 Wrong. The Saudi's get the oil for less than 5 dollars a barrel and we pay 75.00 a barrel. But yet we are paying between $2.75 to $3.00 at the pump. That's price manipulation. It only would cost $16.00 to extract from the tar sands. And the oil would be already in th U.S. to ship all across the country. Your 3-5 times cost is a outrageous lie. Just because we can't find cheap oil does not mean America can't benefit from it. We have the technology, and we have the workforce.
lorenzo8500 1 year ago
@lorenzo8500 No it's not price manipulation, it's supply vs demand, and it's called making a profit. Who is going to pump oil if they will go bankrupt doing so? And how would tar sands magically cost $16/barrel when now they cost at least $25/barrel, if not more? Monetary deflation? Semantics.
You oversimplify this issue, and you underestimate the importance of oil in industrial civilization. It's connected to EVERYTHING.
johan404 1 year ago
@johan404 fa sho on the oil bit THE SPICE MUST FLOW!
tetrahydroscope 1 year ago
@johan404 It is price manipulation. Gasoline was $4.00 dollars a gallon at $150 dollars a barrel during Bush's presidency. And gasoline is now $3.00 a gallon at $75.00 a barrel. I was pointing out how it only costs $16.00 a barrel to get oil from the Bakken. I'm not sure about the tar sands. The Bakken has enough oil to feed the U.S. for 41 years. The tar sands can feed the worlds oil need for 100 years. The price would stabilize if we got our oil within North America.
lorenzo8500 1 year ago
@lorenzo8500 Obama is closing down offshore drilling. What do you think that's going to do to the price of oil? Would you like to pay $4.00, $5.00, $6.00 or how about $7.00 at the pump. Green jobs cost Americans 2.2 or 2.3 jobs. You do the math. Until we find a real viable energy source other than oil then we need to stop living in a fairytale.

@badstacksize Maybe, I don't know. But the rate at which oil is produced, even if it is "within the earth" is very slow. And considering the world economy is based on an infinite growth paradigm, the demand for oil increases ad infinitum. There's a debate whether or not oil synthesis is an abiotic process allowing for replenishing within our lifetime. Whether or not that is true, is irrelevant. There are numerous viable energy sources (not the hippie wind, solar, nonsense) that can easily replace oil so this idea about the destruction of industrial civilization can only come about if these energy sources are actively suppressed as they are being right now.
harveybirdmannequin 1 year ago
@harveybirdmannequin
Why suppress other energy sources? The elite cannot control economies without being able to control a vital resource, in this case oil. Imagine a world with a machine that with a push of a button could give you all basic necessities. The idea of having an economy is nonsensical. The first step into that world is having an unlimited energy source. But the more important conclusion is that in that world there is no societal power structure and no dependency on one another.
harveybirdmannequin 1 year ago
@harveybirdmannequin Maybe. But it would take decades, trillions of dollars and billions of barrels of oil to build all these magical energy machines.
