1) Actually, between the years 1933-1939 Germany was a super power. Hitler didn't lie, he did exactly what he said he was going to do: get Germany out of the depression and restore Germany's dignity. Before the war, Hitler was a beloved leader, having the respect of Churchill and FDR even.
2) That's not true in Europe and Canada, where people sit in jail for "Holocaust denial" and other crimes. There's more political prisoner in Germany now than during NS times.

Rommel was a total failure and a miserable human being. He followed Hitlers orders to the extent within which he could conceal war crimes or avoid prosecution for them.
His military defeats were total, success dubious.
