42.5 million dollar income and a 6.2 million dollar tax? Less than 15%. No wonder he didn't want to release his tax return, that's a grossly large amount of money and a grossly small percentage of tax. The problem, Mitt, isn't your royal success in screwing people over. It's that other people also work hard and earn their money, but earn, much, much, much, much less than you, and pay either the same amount or more of their income to the IRS.
However much money Romney has stashed away or Bain capital has stashed offshore is but a drop in the bucket compared with the trillions squandered away by the administration and Congress. They not only give away billions to foreign countries and the UN, but they have looted Social Security and squandered trillions on Stimulus packages, bailouts, etc... No, I'm not going to be distracted over Romney's personal money. I'm more concerned with what they have been doing with OUR money.
So who are you going to vote for? Is BHO any better than Romney? Or Gingrich? Or Santorum? So, who are you really going to vote for? Because in my opinion, there is no-one worth voting for & that especailly incudes BHO.
@kamicka23 I agree for the most part, but since Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum have never been President. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Therefore, I will vote for the lesser of two evils or whoever happens to be running against Obama.
@josephc28 _ I wouldn't vote for BHO if he was the only one running.Problem is, why should we be forced to vote for the lesser of two evils? Problem is, will one of them be better or worse than what we have now? Will they be able to walk the talk or is it just talk to get elected? They all say what they know we want to hear, but can they or will they follow through with it? BHO promised change, and change we got, not the change many were expecting. Don't be surprised if BHO is it again
@kamicka23 Dr. Ron Paul has been walking the talk for decades, against the tides of congress and presidents. He's refused the congressional pension he was offered as he felt he shouldn't take taxpayers' money, he voted against all tax increases, he voted against all unconstitutional wars and legislation, he warned against several of government's actions and his predictions of the consequences of each has come true.
Research him. I believe you will find the candidate you are hoping for.
@rampersaudc - Nope, not Ron Paul either. Concerning some things he said about Israel & the people of Israel, he does not stand behind them. Not on my list of future president. Besides which, he is no where near being in the top running.
@kamicka23 I wouldn't be surprised at all. Sometimes, it seems as if the GOP candidates and the establishment, in general, want for Obama to be re-elected. But when you look at who is financing Obama, it just shows the hypocrisy. Here he is preaching about the wealth, fairness, and all this crap, then he jets off to some $15,000 a plate fundraiser at Barbara Streisand's house. Now, if any unemployed people or part-time workers are cutting him checks, they should have their heads examined.
@josephc28 - Amen Joseph. He can do no wrong by the elite & media, but let anyone else do the exact same thing & they'ld be hung & quartered. He's a snake that speaks with a forked tongue. But his election will be won illegally as it was before. By those he is wooing and I hope you know exactly the groups of people I mean. Approx. 6 - 7 groups - at least. This could very well win him the election. And there are no GOP's with strong enough backing or following to beat him. We see that.
Romney is not just the 1% but the one-tenth of 1%. He makes normal "wealthy" guys, like Newt Gingrich, look like shit in comparison. And he pays less than most upper middle class working people and just HALF the tax rate that a well paid lawyer or doctor may pay. That's LEGAL under the Bush/republican tax code BUT he aims to his share even FURTHER.
It's called "trickle down" economics. Give to the filthiest rich, and let them piss on you.
@Volatus Ever consider the fact that if Romney hadn't stepped in most of those businesses would have gone broke anyway? Sure there were a few failures, but the vast majority of the businesses Bai Capital restructured actually were saved from bankruptcy.
Who cares about his taxes and business practices that take over small companies, fire their employees and outsource their jobs overseas...who cares????? MAYBE YOU SHOULD!!!
What a joke! So he is a successful businessman with a lot of money. Why do people think they have any right to that information. There are still all kinds of things we don't know about the president, but I guess that's cool. Hippocrates!
@Geoffreybrown82 lrn2spl "hypocrites", dear Republican. See what I did there? Synonyms!
Plus, he's a successful businessman! Sure! If you consider getting rich off making other companies go broke "success". You'd have to be one of those cartoon supervillians in order to consider that kind of success "success".
This is hilarious ... If Bain Capital is soooo bad, then why did Obama just appoint one of their employees as the OMB Director ?? Think about it.
And if Obama is sooo for the 99%, then why is Obama holding his nomination acceptance at the BANK OF AMERICA stadium with million dollar packages being available for sale to donors?
Once again nothing in these debates about creating jobs in this country beside the dog and pony show that is keystone XL. Lets get to the real issues: how the hell are you clowns going to create jobs and keep them in this country??
Mr. 1%er will NOT be getting my vote! "Believe in the Cayman Islands" lol... I love it. I love how these hypocritical hobags pretend like they LOOOOVE America and want to bring jobs to Americans but they can't even sacrifice a a small percentage of your income to be put back into the system. Trickle down my ass!
If he doesn't want us to know what his tax rate is, as this video claims, then why is there a clip of him acknowledging what his tax rate is? That doesn't make any sense.
@ProjectMelton saying he pays "close to 15 percent" is not the same as releasing tax returns. He's being clearly and transparently evasive here. Your argument doesn't make any sense. At least try to play the "that 15% comment is taken out of context" angle.
At no point did I say his comment was tantamount to releasing his tax returns. So we can just go ahead and ignore that straw man and move on to the actual point. The video claimed he was trying to hide his tax rate, but then showed a clip in which he openly acknowledges paying "close to 15 percent," which is half the rate that normal people pay. If he was really trying to hide his tax rate, then why admit to something so low. Dolt.
@ProjectMelton Ah, name calling. Well done! But since you're still confused, I'll condescend to explain: You commented on a video that claims he's hiding money in offshore tax shelters, and hiding his returns (not his tax rate). You said it doesn't make sense because in the same video he says he pays close to 15% (in itself an evasive remark by Romney). The context of your comment makes it hard to read your argument any other way. The point of asking for returns is to find out how he got to ~15%
@DrSprayPepper Your comment was doltish. As was this new comment. I did not make a comment about the entire video. I referred to a specific comment, i.e."Maybe he doesn't want you to know he pays a lower tax rate than you," which does not not make sense when they then show a video of Romney openly admitting he pays a lower tax rate than you. The claim does not address how he got to 15% as you just stated. It says he doesn't want you to know it's lower, but then admits it's lower. Very simple.
@ProjectMelton When in doubt, call names again! The point of asking is precisely so we can all see what's on his return and how he got to a surprisingly low tax rate. That's implicit. The "maybe he doesn't want you to know..." line makes perfect sense in the context of his evasive non-answer to the the question of his tax rate, and his hesitation to release tax records. He clearly doesn't want his personal finances to be the focus of his campaign. Very simple.
@DrSprayPepper You're an idiot and you keep addressing an argument I never made. So, one last time for the cheap seats: at no point did I contend that the central thesis of the video was flawed. However, one particular point in the video is immediately undermined by the inclusion of a clip that proves that particular claim to be false. Hence, the video would be stronger by eliminating that segment. Your inability to focus on a specific point is what merits the label of dolt.
@ProjectMelton Oh, I'm sorry, I thought I DID address your point. Allow me to apologize and make note of it here: You're doing *great* at name calling!! It's your failing that you only want to focus on your semantic argument about whether the exact words they chose support one exact clip, not the context of the argument. But if you want to talk about that, then I'll happily agree with you: if the video were only those two clips, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.
@ProjectMelton Hey, you called me an idiot again! And you used your one debate skill to do it so incisively: you took one part of my reply out of context. Brilliant!
If Romney admits to a 15% tax rate, what do you think he is actually paying? I'm guessing that he's going to be actually paying something along the lines of 5%.
Fuck all people who hide their money over seas. What kind of person earns great wealth and then hides it from the very nation that allowed him to earn it.
