  • 1:40 OMG OMG ALIEN ALIEN

  • good job!

  • Head of Imani Primary is right. Geeze, she's like that pelvis-faced guy from Mask.

  • im currently doing a research project for school and a small section of it is concerned with the digital divide. While doing it i remembered this video haha. Thanks Rocketboom for giving me something interesting to write about ^_^

  • what the fuck was that at the end of the video?hahahahahahaha

  • It was an albino woman. Also, Muslims in Kenya are known for killing albino's, because they think that their bones have powerful magic within them.

  • Wrong country. Tanzania and not Muslims do that. Its ppl who believe in witchcraft

  • 1:43 We have made contact.

  • That little girl was so cute!

  • .___. wow.... mmkay....

  • what disease is 1:33?

  • Doom!!!!!

  • Every child that needs a computer or wants one should have one, free of cost...theres no reason for that not happening

  • WTF was on 1:33

  • A monster! I was scared 2.

  • Thats totally uncalled for...you should be ashamed of yourself

  • SHE IS UPSIDE DOWN!

  • what´s up with that lady!?

  • soon they will be like us... always facebooking and tweeting and socialising. I dont wanna be mean but what with the chick at 1:40

  • she's an albino i think.... so she has african facial features but pale skin. i think it's pretty common among africans.

  • this is marvelous.

  • Improve their writing and drawing skills?! How about a pencil and paper?? I'm not sure this program is as beneficial as it's made out to be...

  • so cool to see those laptops in action

  • Oh, wait, yeah she does,

I thought you meant Molly o.o

  • what you choose to focus on is telling of your stupidity.

  • wow!

  • I believe that is truly an extra terrestrial life form that has stolen the voice box of a victim human at 1:40 .

  • yay Dutch!

  • wow, so instead of spending money on food and water. they waste money on useless laptops?

    what

    the

    fuck.

  • don't be dumb. food and water are only expensive short term fixes. you never heard the parable about teaching a man to fish? i wouldn't be surprised if these kids were more educated than you.

  • still, I don't see how giving kids laptops will benefit them. I believe it would be a better idea to spend the money on something that would actually be useful. i.e. textbooks, better classrooms, pencils, pens, sports equipment, and books. instead of giving children laptops with extremely basic programs that wont teach them anything. Africa has many problems that they should deal with before they should start buying laptops.

  • they don't need textbooks, pencils, pens when they have internet ready laptops that will last much longer.

also, these XO laptops were donated.

  • Kill me, NOW.

That woman is eighter a surperior lifeform or has her genes scrabled like like eggs in an omlette....

PS. I dont like the activity of painting.

  • I WTF'D hard looking at her face on 1:40

  • OLPC == FAIL

It's a complete screwup. The machines are not useful for anything other than very basic interaction; consider it to be "My First Computer".

Now there'd be nothing wrong with that if Kenya had a real *IT infrastructure*. But they don't outside of the cities. This means kids are wasting their time learning things that don't immediately benefit the community around them.

We need to do not try. We have the ability to help these countries but we avoid it, not due to cost I suspect

  • the most useless waste of money.

those children need better classrooms, maybe a few computers to share, they need more school supplies, larger school houses, calculators, text books, balanced meals, they don't need camera's and painting devices and machines that make cow noises when you click on the cow, at 180USD ea

ridiculous, they're just buying lots of shiny new gadgets (or having them brought for them). They aren't really doing anything to significantly improve the quality of education

  • she likes the activity of painting!

  • Hey, its dutch!

  • this was originally supposed to be a $100 laptop... the price is a little off...

  • I've been considering buying a couple of those XO's. The program is great: you buy one for your kid and the company donates one. You can buy one for donation as well and they'll match that. I think this video made the decision for me.

The only long term solution to solving the real problems around the world are to give the people with the problems tools to create their own solutions.

    Bravo XO.

    Thanks Rocketboom!

  • yea sure let machine teach kids how to behave and what to learn, next thing you know youl end up with brainwashed kid who never use their creativity!

  • The bad thing, is that in a lot of kids, that's true. They don't know how to socialize with real people. They can't spell. They can't write.

Recently a journalist student wrote a real good article in the University paper on how we've actually "dummied" ourselves down with technology. Using u r, brb, sol, etc. instead of spelling words because we're lazy, using spell check and not bothering to actually learn how to spell, etc.

Ever talk to someone, and say out loud, "LOL!"

  • @NotaBeetleFan Judging by your name, I assume you enjoy always being against popular things. I adore grammar, and I deplore today's way of writing with the aid of technology just as much as you do. But as long as these children continue caring more about learning, and don't drift onto nonsensical websites and change their priorities, they'll stay true to writing well and good. Plus, I really doubt they'd even think it was appropriate to write like that.

  • this is so stupid... there are lots of persons dying in Africa every day and instead of food they give them computers?

  • idiot, you dont understand the problem of 'giving them food'. if you want reasons as to why computers beat direct food supplies, ill happily provide you a list of good reasons.

  • provide me with the list then

  • I guarantee that the teacher lady at the end there has telekinesis or some other form of psionics

  • Very cool.

  • 1:40 what is that thing? o_O

  • Yeh, i was like... WTF...

but i think its awesome children are using laptops n shit... soon well get youtube vids from Kenyakid357 (joke)

  • Haha..I don't think you can go on net with that PC, and i don't even think they have internet in Kenya lol

  • It depends on where you go. They do have internet in cities and towns, but usually not in rural areas.

  • They'll make money. Yeah, like the Nigerian scam. Go on webs cut and paste beautiful pics of girls, get some idiot American guy to think HE is a "she" and cry that they need money...Idiot American sends Credit card money or other methods, cry some more, more money....

How about teach the kids to grown crops and clean the water and set up cleaner methods to clean area and reduce disease? Computers are ok, but take loads of petrol products and water to make them and is hard on environment.

  • it's ET's mom, i think.

  • Real intelligent. I think that word would be more appropriate used describing yourself Duirward...considering its actual definition.

  • Thats cool that they computers for the children but that teacher freaked me out.

  • How cool is this!!?

Interesting a child in Kenya is learning English

  • Almost everyone in Kenya speaks English.

  • gr8 idea but what the heck no interweb?!

  • one to one laptop programme = more trolls on youtube?

  • I find it funny how the reporter in the beginning stutters a lot

  • WOW! didint see that comin

  • AIDS

  • AIDS? Are you fucking kidding? Aids may be a problem, but what that the point of this video? No so STFU

  • AIDS D;

  • Klingons :O 1:43

  • I could play golf on her forehead.

  • that was really scary...

  • More like its Roger from American Dad LOL

  • The goldmine that is Rocketboom "fan" comments, ladies and gentlemen.

  • Why was the one girl given subtitled? She speaks more clearly than most of the people that I talk to on a daily basis.

  • You must hang around ESL students or non-natives then^^

  • No, actually. She just has a very clear English accent, and there was no reason for her to be subtitled.

There was someone else that wasn't subtitled that probably should have been, however. But it's insulting to the young girl who spoke like any elementary school girl from the States.

  • "But it's insulting to the young girl who spoke like any elementary school girl from the States."

Umm no. Elementary schools students in the US do not speak like here. You must be new to American accents. She sounds nothing like an American kid.

    You're are simply ignorant.

  • Haha, as a born and raised New Yorker, you are speaking to the wrong part of America. Maybe people don't speak normal in your backwaters-incest-ridden GED school, but as for the parts of America where education is /actually/ important, she speaks perfectly fine and does not need subtitles.

Maybe you are just racist? I think that sounds more likely.

  • "as a born and raised New Yorker"

You say this as if it gave you credibility. Simply hilarious. This is what happens when people grow up in New York; they believe the world revolves around them. Thanks for the lulz and ad hominem attacks. Your attempt at argumentation has failed before you even made a point. ^L^

  • "You're are simply ignorant"?

Anyway, she spoke clearly enough not to need subtitles, regardless of her accent.

  • how is it people are making such an effort to get kids laptops that some one has already said how practical is this when the probably wont use or need them over the course of there adult life but children are still not in school... not eating... don't have close... I'm just sayin.

  • huh? these kids were not in school?? where were they? in a dump, trying to find food??

maybe, just maybe, you should watch a little less of reports from World Vision or other NGOs of the like

I'm not saying everything's fine in Africa, far from it, but most children don't die of starving...

  • dude.

    fuck you.

  • It's a really nice gesture, but is it really practical? Most of these children probably don't live in countries where the economy is such that they can obtain jobs that require the use of computers. It seems to me that things like this are giving the children false ideals of their futures, like what's happening in Papua New Guinea

  • What the fuck happened to her?! (1:42)

  • I think she's albinistic

  • Um, its something called... having a health condition not from the ordinary?

but seriously, she may just have a mild case of downsymdrome.

  • and vitiligo...

  • HOLT SH**

No wonder they call her THE HEAD of Imani republic.

  • Comment removed

  • They should do a swimsuit calendar with all the ladies from ROCKETBOOM. I would totally buy that :D

  • ARGH my young virgin eyes

  • Kenya needs to prepare more children for its secondary educational system. Computer skills will help.

  • it's amazing that the little girl can speak english yet the narrator cant....

  • Well he probably didn't have a lime green laptop when he was younger.

  • your right... yet he's being a reporter for a british news broadcast. they grow up so fast. :')

  • hmm, you sure could program the future generation
