Personally I prefer LC's version. They're both good singers but LC songs should be handled more...delicately.
You don't put a beat under poetry and try to rock it off. Elton John is too eager to be the center of the stage here...whilst it is the poetry that should be in the limelight.
Usually I don't like covers at all, and especially not when the song is changed to much. But then again...Elton John is the best artist ever so nothing he does is bad:-)

Terrible cover. Both singer and writer are better than this. This sounds like Elton was still in his Sad Songs Say So Much phase. Truly awful.
