  • I have an epic beard.. How is that viewed in Japan?

  • @odaymustdie "i have an epic beard" not even "i have a beard" nice xD i found that really funny for some reason xD

  • They often give you shoulder and head massage too. And, a shave includes your forehead and eyebrows (at least mine and I'm not so hairy. They trim nasal hair and ear hair while they are at it. Again, maybe just me...8-)

  • An our or two to get a hair cut !!!!. The most I have spent getting a hair cut is 15 maybe 20 minutes and that's with a wash, cut and dry. Why does it take so long to get a hair cut in Japan ?

  • Wow, they have manga in barber shops! All we have at mine is newspapers xD, im wondering one thing though, i have curly hair that isnt really long, but isnt short either, and its rather messy and bits fall out alot, would that bother them in japan at all?

  • What part of Japan is this? It looked quite familiar to me... like Iriso. Or Saitama, Sayama.

  • 0:23 One Piece :D

  • I have a High top Fade like Kid N Play or Fresh Prince of Bel Air or Steve Urcle would this be very unacceptable?

  • I realize these videos are old, but I was wondering if it's appropriate filming videos in any public place because I noticed sometimes I heard they don't like to be filmed and put on the internet. There's this rumor that Japanese women shouldn't show their faces (apart from eyes) on the Internet, if they don't want to be ridiculed by Japanese men on the internet.

Can you tell me if this is true or not?

  • is it ok to have a short scruffy beard?

  • How about Dreadlocks in Japan? Go or NoGo?

  • Thank you so much for these videos. My children are home-schooled and we are doing a study on Japanese culture. This is a fantastic insight into current life in Japan. Again thank you very much!

  • I think that anywhere you go, the barbers are the coolest people to get to know.

  • they should have charts on the wall with different types of cuts of hair so you can point out that type of haircut like at my barber

  • @elchoya100 all of the ones i've been to in Japan have tons and TONS of magazines laying around with literally thousands of different haircut styles in them. you shouldnt have any trouble finding something similar to what it is you are looking for.

  • 緑のポールってはじめて見た。

  • It is good better than the barber at cutting in Japan at the hair salon.

  • where are the black barber shops at?

  • if i asked short back and sides what would they think of it

  • 0:04 started to look like a small town in America.

  • what about African american or Africans in japan do they offer hair cut for them given the fact that Japanese don't have short grain hair like Africans do?

  • is that a bunch of manga on the bookshelf??

  • I went to a hair salon last summer in Japan. I went with my grandma so it wasn't a terrifying experience but putting my past waist length hair in someones hands who doesn't really understand me was scary. I got it cut to my shoulders but it wasn't a disaster because it was so hot it probably needed to be so short. I really enjoyed practicing my Japanese with them though!

  • In Vietnam, every male students from all ages need to cut their hair short... u cant let the back of your hair touch the shirt's colar, sideburns must not go past the ears. At least they let us keep the bang but must not past our nose, & no dyeing of course, we cant use gel either... everybody look the same and it's boring *sigh* cant wait until graduation

  • yay was wondering about this. glad i used the search feature before asking you to make a vid

  • That is A LOT of manga!!!!! :D

  • do you know about the hair regulations in boys schools? particularly high school. here in the Philippines and where i study, hair is not supposed to go past the eyebrows, touch the collar of our polo and touch our ears and of course no hair dyeing. i just wanna know if it's the same there in Japan though i see lots of Japanese people with crazy hair.

  • Are some of those books manga on the shelves?? Or they at least LOOK similar to manga books I've seen at the bookstore.

  • Widershins: over here in Canada. When I go to the barber they get their comb and comb your heir all over the place then they say how do you want it. I caught on to that and before they can do that I say don,t touch it look at it, I want it just like that but short. What could be simpler?Would probably work any place.

  • I wonder if in Japan they have those horrible, neck breaking, washers in which they wash your hair before cutting it.

  • so no tipping so it aint that gudd to be a barber in japan aint it? cuz in america tipping is probbaly used the most in barbershops

  • what about the female salon in japan I will like to know about it ^^

  • wow, all that manga! i wouldn't expect that in a barber shop. so cool. ^_^

  • Ah and i give like/star for this Manga ! damn in Japan you have manga and anime in the hairdresser shop this rly cool , Many place in Japan have manga or another staff like this for pepols ? (sry for english)

  • Aiem the 666 like cool :D. Thx for this all vid Japones culture.

  • do they do the thing where you can tell them some number-length on the side and some number-length on the top?

  • Lol if I was a hairstylist and some dude was videotaping me cut his hair, I'd be so freaked out.

  • maybe it's a pleasant experience when you're a guy....

They gave me bangs... even after telling I thought everything was okay, accept bangs!

They tricked me by giving me a head-massage...

  • Some people in the military were just shaving their heads with a razor! That's one option in Japan too for a foreigner I guess... just shave it bald!

  • What about Tips ? do they tip in Japan ?

  • @illuminatijews no, they can even be offended by it or they take it as some sort of charity. so don't do it :P

  • @SnowKitty33

Nice, I personally don't see the point in tipping anyhow!

  • Were those DVDs on the shelves?

  • @signalrambo there not DVDs

  • @signalrambo He says "alot like western salons, just more manga laying around" so im assuming its manga. :P

  • A hour for a haircut?

  • If you're a black person is there hope to find a barber or should you probably just learn to cut your own hair?

  • I have pretty long hair, how do they view men with long hair?

  • @SacrificeUntoRamses

OK .. but they keep it VERY neat and clean.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

    Thank you!

I'm very interested in Japanese culture, and it has been a long-time dream of mine to live there one day.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Yeah, ive wondered this as well. Mine is almost at waist length (just another inch or 2 and it will be). Im highly critical on my hair, but everyone says it looks fine. If it looks even slightly greasy, ill wash it before I go out in public. Ive seen some Japanese with "long" hair, but no where near as long as mine.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Now that I know how they feel about long hair how do they feel about men with giant ratty beards?

I'm being half serious since I'm pretty sure I already know the answer.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

On that respect, how do Japanese people view beards. I have one and, for better or worse, am rather fond of it. Is it seen with better eyes to be cleanly shaved or some style/s in particular?

    Thank you!

  • when u go to school, does your hair have to be combed back and behind your ear? and if its not,do they shave your head baled?

  • @lukemomo1

No, sounds like another internet myth :-D

  • please tell us the price for your haircut >.>

  • Is it a bad thing for a guy to have long hair? Are dreads only for criminals?

  • Is it okay to be bald/have a shaven head in Japan? As im kind of balding so it looks better if i shave it. Another video on haircuts suggested that its a bad idea as it has yakuza connotations or something. Thanks!

  • @PooKieMuSh

Shaved head alone is fine.. if the rest of you is presented well.

  • What was that blue pole with the hole in it infront of the Manga? Was that just a trash can?

  • damn the got manga in barbershops!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! =D wish we had that =3

  • what about womens haircuts?

  • It seems as though a haircut is a haircut, no matter where in the world you are.

  • I'm a cosmotologist and I love manga, that would be a dream, lol. Tho I doubt the employees get to read it.

  • So can take a picture of like a magazine and show them that.

  • What about girls though?

  • What was the name of that hair salon anyways? Also would the names of hair salon have the words "hair", "cut", "barber shop" or "salon" in katakana, or is there already a Japanese word for hair salon/hair cut. haha.

  • @kphamu

What was the name of the salon??

That is about the 20th question you have asked today, dude ^_^

Maybe watch all the videos first and then ask your questions ^_^

  • If anyone here is living or planning to live in Nagoya you should go to COCKNEY.

Its a small hair salon which is right near Nagoya Station. If you exit on th west side you will see Bic Camera (electronics store) in front of you. Go right and kep waling down the steet. It will be on your right, and if you pass Yamachans you've gone too far.

The owner was trained in England and speaks English quite well, hes also used to cutting thicker or curly / wavy hair.

And the head massages are aces!

  • You are awosome dude you have countless usefull videos on how to live in japan if someone is going to move there you would be the man to teach them how thanks very helpful

  • you looked so happy filming it when your hair was being cut!! ^^

  • I remember when I was little, I got a hair cut and the barber made a joke about accidentally cutting of my ear. I cried so much and then all the people there tried to make me stop crying. I hope a barber in Japan isn't like that. @_@ XD

  • I like that! Its a pratical way of saving water.

  • thats alot of manga for a sitting room! how long do they expect people to be waiting for?! hehe

  • @maxgo111 generally if you go to a place where you may have to wait then you will probably find manga...ive been to a few restaurants where they have loads of manga and even restaurants with a play area for the kids

  • Is having long hair for a male a bad thing in Japan?

  • @superciliousrbt depends on the job...if you are a businessman, teacher, professional etc then yes, long hair for a guy is bad...it should be kept short and tidy...also clean shaven too.

Other jobs such as shop work, bar work etc you may get away with being more stylish and trendy but still you must be presentable so no poney tail or greasy hair...

as a student you may get away with poney tails but you dont see it often

  • How much is a crew cut? Eg average haircut?

  • @numloxx i had a hair cut recently in japan that was done with just scissors and included a shave and cost me 1100yen...so for a buzz cut no more then 1000yen

  • Why do they have so many books(?) on the shelves?

  • What if you took your long hair backwards like in a gangster way? lol

Would that be okey or...? Because I don't like to cut my hair often. Normally I just cut it to where my nose are and then let it grow again lol.

  • Awesome. Japanese hair cuttery.

  • You look like you are having fun getting your hair cut! You should help people with how to speak Japanese!

  • just more manga lying around XD

  • I want to get my haircut in Japan just for the sake of doing it.

  • I got my haircut in Sunshine Shiti. When the weather changes my scalp get so dry, but I was using Head&Shoulders daily to keep it from happening. Saddly the guy found a chunk and pulled it out. It was SO embarrasing. Positive side, I got a cool J-Pop Haircut, and expereinced a Hair Wash Machine!!

  • I grew my hair long after college. This was also the period of my life I was unable to begin working in my career field (nobody would hire me). Professionalism is important. Is this common in Japan as well?

  • @Flargenyargen

More so than in the west.

  • hey man thanx for all the info keep up the good job

  • @jayelit

    Thanks for your support!

  • It is okay to walk around with cameras, filming in public? I notice you, TokyoCooney and even some Japanese people do it.

I believe in Norway it can be slightly offensive because you want to protect your private life, but how is it in Japan?

  • @NWOG

I am very carefully when and where and I ask permission if I film faces.

  • do any japanese men shave their heads and would i cause offence if i went to japan with a shaven head?

  • @ZMVPZ

    some do

  • yes my techer is from japan hes shaved his

  • Do they have barbers in Japan that cut black people hair because I don't know if I want to walk around with an afro.

  • @MasaruGamer

    I am sure someone can.

  • Would it be rude of me to shave my whole head bald?

  • :) one of the plans in my life is to move to Japan and learn japanese! :D i really like the +manga!

  • do they straight razor shave?? feather razors i believe.. is it pricey?

  • I had one in Tokyo.. can't remember the price

  • This intersection looks like Guy's stage from Street Fighter Zero 2 !!! 0:08

  • Do they also do shaves & hot towel treatments like some weastern barbershops do, or is that a cultural no-no in public?

  • are you good at speaking japanese?

  • Not really.. there is so much to learn!

  • Oh yes, manga!!

That's why kids agree to go to tokoya-san. Otherwise, they don't go. They hate it.

  • Man, I wish the barbershop i go to had manga.

  • Read mangas here is a very good idea indeed 0.o

  • That's so cool !
