  • Pat Summerall on this intro is epic, he is still the best PBP man who ever lived, not to offend Dick Enberg, but Pat is the gold standard

  • Couple things..

Was the previous game the one where NYG beat SF 49-3 or whatever?

Also, I miss the theme music and good announsers like John Madden and Pat Summerall.

And finally, Summerall said that this was the third meeting... did they play twice int he regular season?

  • @jbsmg Yes, the Giants and Redskins are in the same division, so they play each other twice every season.

  • @rjflesher Oh, for some reason I thought Summerall was talking about SF. IDK why I thought that...

  • @jbsmg One of those games with the Redskins was on Monday night in Washington while THE World series game was going on. I walked all over campus to find a dorm or lounge with the football game on. We did, however, manage to switch the channels just in time to see the ball go between Bill Buckner's legs.

  • @captainzorikh Cool!! I was only 7 years old at this point... but I do remember the WS the next season :)

  • Have this game on video

  • at 0:53 mark what the fuck! how the hell did#66 block out there with a damn club on his right hand

  • Very impressive display by the Giants defense that day- Washington's passing offense was very good in 1986, so it's not like they beat a creampuff.

  • Omg summeral fuckkkkk

  • doug williams> jay schroeder.....

  • @ 1:30 THE VENUE FOR SUPERBOWL XXI

  • CBS had the best intro shows ever.

I always made sure to watch them.

Pat and John are simply the best duo in history.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • I loved CBS intros from the 80's and early 90's. I believe it adds to the hype of the game and especially with Pat Summeralls historic voice. Great Stuff the only bad thing about it the previous week the Giants Mascred my Niners that was brutal.

  • oh my this is what you call an intro amazing! pat summerall said something very catchy at 0:20 to 0:22 that Anticipation replacing Frustration

  • When the NFC Championship was bigger than the Super Bowl. This was an era when the NFC Champion was virtually garunteed to win the Super Bowl. Now, with the exception of some teams, the NFC is mostly a joke.

  • Agreed - bring back the old intros. Today's intros are cr*p.

Am I correct in thinking the Intro for the 49ers game was Glory Days by Springsteen?

  • @solefthanded2 The intro using Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" was for the '85 Wild Card game against the 49ers, which happened to be the Giants first playoff home game at Giants Stadium and their first home playoff game period since the '62 Championship Game against the Packers in Yankee Stadium, hence the usage of "Glory Days" in the intro.

  • @wizeman5974

    DUH!!!

Type in "NYG 1985 Wild Card Intro Vs 49ers" and see my comment there.

  • LOL.....didn't know you had made that post and that the question below was probably rhetorical. My bad. :)

  • @wizeman5974

    No worries.

    Go Geeee-Meeeennnnnnnnn!!!!!!

  • I Believe This Was CBS Sports' NFL On CBS Video Open From Sunday Afternoon, January 11, 1987.

  • in the frame 1:41 was that the late actor Murray Hamilton

    behind bill parcells

  • NOW THIS WAS FOOTBALL

  • Dammit, this only reminds me that the Bears should have made it to the NFC title game in '86 as well as in '85.....oh well the Giants probably would've kicked our ass that day as they did the 'Skins. No one was going to stop LT and co. in 1986.

  • Can we bring back these intros for all NFL games? Please.

  • Awesome shot of the fans in the upper deck!

  • Ok, first I never thought I would see those Saturday morning intros/bumpers for those 80's cartoons. I was wrong. However, I for sure knew i would NEVER see these AWESOME NFL intros on CBS. I had about 5 of my favorite intros on an VHS tape. (Redskins/Eagles, Saints/Rams, some NFC team @ Cleveland) My favorite one was an intro to some team & the 49ers. They had a close of Montana with the sun shinning behind him & the next shot showed Roger Craig bleeding.

Too bad those days are gone.

  • Now thats a fuckin intro

  • @snappy452 No doubt!!!!!!!!! The intro alone got you fired up to go play!

  • I loved the NFC in the mid-80s. If you got to the Super Bowl, you had to be a GREAT team. Good wasn't good enough. The 83 49ers, 84 Bears, 85 Giants, and 86 Redskins had to lose in the playoffs to the eventual world champion to get to the big game (three of them in the NFC Championship game). Just a dominant era for the conference...then the 49ers ascended for three years before the Giants MASTERFULLY outexecuted them in maybe the greatest conference title game ever.

  • It was amazing to see how badly the Giants beat the Redskins:

    1. The Redskins weren't a bad team. They were 12-4 and Schroder had a great passing season.

    2. They beat the team that won the next year's Super Bowl with practically the same roster

  • Does anyone have intros from the 1989 season for CBS with the new pots and pans theme? There used to be a few on here, but can't find them anymore. Also, any pots and pans or 1981-1985 intros with the Packers would be great as well.

  • GO GIANTS!! BUT NOW I CAN ONLY SEE EM 2 TIMES ON CBS :(

I HAVE TO DEAL WITH FUCK AND "I can still play if I want to" Aikman

  • The cool thing is I bet Pat is in some of the pictures they showed in the intro as a player. Pat was a class act because he could cover the Giants objectively as a true journalist. I miss him. He was the man who taught me so much about the NFL, kind of like Hubie Brown in the NBA!

  • Pat Summerall is Thou God of the NFL! I'm building his new set of golf clubs next week! 80 years old!

  • This is the Citizen Kane of football intros!

  • 0:38 Pepper Johnson could not dance. LOL

  • That intro gives me chills. Pat Summerall is the best!

  • I agree this CBS intro sounded EPIC! Combined with Summeral's powerful voice, it genuinely hyped the game. People also forget that in the NFC during the 80's, the Niners, Skins, Bears, and Giants at one point took turns handing the torch to one another....

  • the wind and the giants defense just owned us that day. but we got em back the following year!

  • one of those games were against our replacement players, the skins had the best replacement team that year

  • yes the scab games. your mgt team didn't take those games seriously if i remember and lost all 3 games.

  • @NYGiants869007 1991 is the only legitimate Redskin super bowl triumph, both of their 80s super bowls deserve asterix marks as they were strike shortened seasons played by replacement players during the regular season.

  • @NYGiants869007 yeah the redskin replacement QB won more regular season games than doug williams.

  • @13skinsfan69 Are you joking? 1987 shouldn't even count in the record books because there were 3 "scab" games with amateurs and the week 3 schedule was cancelled all-together. The fair thing to do was to have a 12-game schedule and expand the playoffs to 8 teams from each conference - like they did in '82.

I'm not saying that the Giants would come out on top but the result wouldn't been much different.

  • @chessarama yeah but we still beat the best teams that year. win at chicago and then beat a hot minnesota team that had just upset SF.

  • @13skinsfan69

Gary Clark dropping balls didnt help you that day either.

  • I think CBS needs to bring this song back. Its has to be the best intro music for a football game of all time.

  • Damn Skippy!

  • Yeah, I kinda like this intro music myself, an oldie but still a goodie:-)

  • were never going to see intros like this ever again. fox is a joke, an cbs plays rap songs before the start of the games

  • You're absolutely right dude......I couldn't agree with you more. Everything was better back in the 80s....I also miss the days of Brent Musberger back in the early 80s starting out the NFL pre-game on cbs with his patented 'You're looking live....

Yeah, the Fox pregame absolutely sucks--those guys are all a bunch of clowns....wish they could bring back this again.

  • @NYGiants869007 Fox did good intros with Summerall, i think you can attribute the dramatic style to Summerall in all accounts.

  • @icehawk1906 I agree...everytime I hear this intro, it gets the adrenaline rushing and gets me pumped up to watch the game. I can't say the same for today's intros

  • @icehawk1906

No i think the CBS intro music they adopted I guess starting in 1991/92 is the best. That jingle gets lodged in my head all day when I hear it

  • If we had a better Offense and had beaten the Skins, the NFC title would've been the most hyped conference championship ever.

  • This has kinda bugged me, if the Bears did beat the Redskins who would have had the home field advantage? The Giants & Bears were both 14-2.

Redskins were 12-4, which isn't bad.

  • Gianst were 11-1 in NFC

    Bears were 10-2 in NFC

    Giants

  • The Giants had homefield advantage in 1986 and would have hosted the Bears. They each only had 1 NFC loss but the Bears lost in week 7 to Vikings 23-7 and Giants lost week 1 to Dallas 31-30...have the Inside the NFL week 16 covering this...

  • @MoeHailstone Bears-Giants '86 NFC Championship Game.....I was so hoping that game would have happened so the Giants could've gotten revenge for the Bears victory over them in the playoffs in '85. But it was not to be. Nevertheless, the Giants beat the Redskins in the playoffs in '86, something the Bears could not do.

  • @MoeHailstone The Giants had only one Conference loss in 1986 (Dallas on the road). Their other loss was out of conference on the road against Seattle (then in the AFC as we old schoolers know). The Bears lost two games in conference in 1986. They lost at Minnesota and at home against the Rams, who they played in the NFC Title game the previous year.

  • Is it just me or did the games seem to be so much bigger back then? This is a great them, BTW. Wished CBS would bring this one back but then no one could do it the way Summerall did.

  • I've seen a couple with Lundquist doing the intro. Not as good as Summerall, but great nonetheless. A different guy used to have a bunch of these videos but he got shut down and I've been searching for more for the last year.

  • Your right, and I miss dearly the old CBS coverage. They used to have these types of stellar intros for every game in every market. Even meaningless regular season games, between losing teams. No one did it quite like Sumerall that's why he was on the number their number one broadcast team. However Musberger was and is still excellent (for both basketball and football).

  • Great Fucking Theme! the good ol days

  • it's hard to believe how much i hated the Giants (cowboy fan growing up in Jersey) in these years because i knew Parcells had a better team than Landry's Cowboys even though Dallas actually won the head-to head adavntage for a few years there..(85-87)..years later.ironic.Parcells would be with Dallas, even though it was short stay...still brings back memories because everyone around me were Giant fans growing up 45 min from meadowlands

    Lee

  • @lgolden20 Why weren't you a Giants fan if you were growing up in Jersey on those years?

  • @optimus2g

can't explain it, but always rooted for Dallas starting in 1982 and stuck with them despite the hatred from NY Giant fans. My grandfather gave me tickets to the Dallas game at the Meadowlands in the early to mid 80's...I always felt the electricity in the stands when Dallas was in town, especially when they were good (83 to mid-season 86)....Dallas- Giants brings back memories growing up....

  • Intros have never been the same. Pat was awesome in this.

  • 3 super bowls.

Shitgals. 0. go fuck yourself you loser

  • @NYGiants869007 Why is any fan of the gay-gals even commenting? They already choked twice.

  • you idiot most met fans are jet fans

  • The glory years of the giants and the glory years of pat summerall and madden two of the all time best announcers.

  • Painful game to watch as a Redskin fan but this game represented the Redskins march to Super Bowl 22 & a resounding 42-10 thumping of the Denver Broncos.

  • A couple of notes here. First of all, The Link in philly is a nice stadium in a toxic wastedump called south philly. In a year we'll have an even nicer stadium in a toxic waste dump. So we'll call that one close to even.

You had probably the best defense on the league in 1991 and 1992 + Cunningham in his prime and didn't get to an NFC championship game, which is shameful. You then had the most talented NFC team for 5 years in a row in a weak NFC this decade and didn't win a championship.

  • By that, I mean a super bowl championship. You won 1 NFC championship by selling your soul with TO. It is a great franchise when it comes to being pretty good, not a great franchise when it comes to being great.

  • the link is a very nice stadium i agree.. the vet however was dump...an great points about the eagles in the past.. not to mention they were in this championship game 5 times this decade and went to a super bowl once an didnt win. thats a joke

  • 3 SB's

  • @plancolt I will differ with you on 1992, the Dallas Cowboy 90s dynasty arrived that year and they were ranked the number one defense in football all year, including a thumping of Philly in the Divisional playoffs where they held the Eagles to 40 yards rushing and rattled Cunningham into submission.

Philly was good but Dallas and San Francisco they were not.

  • This video gets me hype.

The way the package opens and the trumpets and horns are blaring and then Summeral comes in.

This would make me finish my reps in the gym.

"They attacked by land, and they attacked by air"

  • trumpets and horns are blaring. i wish the games were still like this. giant games are nothing like the 80s. you can do squat in that place. its more like a tennis match..

  • Like I've said, CBS should just bring it back for one week during the '09 season. I think they'd be shocked at how strong the positive reaction would be.

  • no chaMPIONSHIP??WELL,WELL WE WON IN 1960!!!SO THERE!!!!!!EAST RUTHERFORD GIANTS SUCK IT BIG TIME!!!!!!

  • Congratulations on that lonely championship my friend. if you wanna bring up championships we have won 1927, 1934, 1938, and 1956 so try again Philly trash

  • after the game CRACKHEAD LT AND PAT BOOSE SUMMERALL GOT INTOXICATED!!ALSO PHILS SIMMS OVERATED!!!!!!!OH WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF PHILLY GIANTSPLAYOFF??OH THAT RIGHT WE WHIPPED YOUR ASS!!!!!

  • LT best player to ever play the game. even on crack..an you say simms is overrated look at your overrated QB Mcchoke.. You kicked our it the playoffs ahh moron the playoffs series in tied 2-2. we beat you in 81 after you came off a nfc championship season in 80 and we beat you in 2000. you beat us in 06 which you almost lost to an 8-8 giant team and last year so dont think you losers are the kings of he giants eagles rivalry like i said, WIN A FUCKING SUPERBOWL

  • "Which brings me to my next point, kids. Don't smoke crack." LOL.

Thanks for this. This intro gives me goosebumps. Makes me a little sad to hear Summerall's voice once so young and strong compared to today.

  • But what did you do with that win against the Giants? Ah, that's right, lost another NFC Champ game the following week.

  • @interstate84man1 NO Super Bowl trophies. Repeat: NO Super Bowl trophies.

  • giants stadium:a total shithole in the shitty toxic wastedump meadowlands!!!!

  • This is coming from somebody whose team use to play at the Vet. where they had a jail for all you degenerate fans. how about you win a fucking super bowl then come talk to me

  • BTW, does anyone have the Giants-Bears NFC Divisional Playoff game in NY from the 1990 season (Jan 13, 1991)?

  • I have been a Giants fan since 1967. I have seen it all. The 1986 season was special because it led to their first Super Bowl championship. The Giants had a great team that year. No one was going to stop them. The NFC championship game against the Redskins was as dominant as you can get. I will never forget it. In fact, I still have the game on tape. My favorite all-time Giants game though, was the Super Bowl win over the Pats. Thanks for the memories. Go Giants! George Vreeland Hill
  • Man i forgot how AWSOME intros were back then

  • Dam that crowd was loud

  • Yeah, like Summerall mentioned in the first intro segment, the Giants fans were HUNGRY for a championship. They hadn't even been close in many years, so they were jacked going into the game.

  • can an old giants fan please explain something to a young giants fan like me? i dunno half your guys pain.

at the beginning, who is that bloodied #14?

and did giant fans really used to wear brown bags? LOL who started that? the saints, right?

man i kinda admire you old timer giant fans because you stuck through alot!!!!

  • Thats Y.A Tittle. Come on how old are you lol. i am only 25. but started following ths Giants from 88 on. ive watched alot of these old games on tape that my dad recorded, and still do to this day..yea they wore bags on their head in the late 70s. and in 1983

  • "Unflappable Jay Schraeder". :-)

  • oh my god so much electric drums

  • Anytime you get a "pots and pans" intro, I love it.

  • Great theme, I'd love for them to bring it back although I don't think it will ever happen. But best theme ever!

  • THIS is how you do a promo - Excellent production values!!!!

  • Its intresting 1984 49ers 85 bears 86 giants. They all held their divisonal oppenets out of the endzone. They all shut out their championship oppenents. They all dominated their S.B.'s Its hard to say thinking about it, who is the best of these three. You could make an argueement these are the three best teams ever. Id welcome the debate.

  • It's funny because I noticed the same dominance by all three teams, but if I had to rate the three in terms of overall dominance within the season each won the SBowl, it would be:

    1. 85 Bears

    2. 84 49ers

    3. 86 Giants

with a slight edge to the Bears over the 49ers and Giants. This is coming from a Giants fan.

  • Did you also notice that in 84,96, and 90 the 49ers, Bears, Giants, and redskins all made the Divisonal round and palyed each other. i have all three teams playoff games on tape. i would agree with your rankings except I thought the Giants played better teams in 86 the Redskins and 49ers than the 49ers in 84 or bears in 85. the 49ers beat a bears team with no passing game and The bears beat a rams team with even less a passing game. the Redskins and 49ers had tough offenses.

  • I think the 1989 Niners are better than the 84 version and don't forget the 92 Cowboys, also a dominant NFC powerhouse.

  • I have always like the Giants. But I was really disappointed that the bears lost to the redskins that set up this matchup. A bears giants nfc championship game would have been perfect. Two great defences going at it. Two of the largest cities in america. I bet the people at CBS were hoping for that for ratings.

  • You are 100% rite, i wanted the Bears back from 85 to, that Redskin team was not better then that Bear team, but that's football,

  • Please. That Redskins team was 12-4 and had one of the best offenses in the NFL that year. The bears 86 D wasn't that great, either, because Buddy Ryan had left to coach the Eagles.

  • The Bears were still great on defense that year regardless of Buddy Ryan leaving, they just didn't have the complete offensive package(especially at QB I mean McMahon?,Tomczak?,Steve Fuller?!?)to become a complete powerhouse.

  • So what. The Skins were still the most complete team that year. The Giants were obviously the best team in the league, but the Skins were better than the Bears. The Skins also defeated the Bears at Solider Field the next year.

  • *The Skins were the more complete team (than the Bears).

  • I didn't say that the Bears were better than Redskins,I just said that despite losing Buddy Ryan, the Bears 46 defense still didn't lose a step. They just didn't have the offense to become a more balanced team.

  • An 1986 New York Giants Chicago Bears Nfc Championship would have been a classic. I'm a 49ers and I know how the giants dominated us in the playoffs that year I think that was just the giants year and not even the bears would've stop them.

  • Would it have been in Chicago or New York?

  • A Bears-Giants NFC Championship in '86 would have been in New York. They held the tiebreaker that year for better conference record: NYGiants (8-4) to Chicago (7-5) since they did not play each other in the regular season in '86.

  • The Giants- Bears in 86 would havre been like Rams-Bears 85, and 49ers-Bears 84. the bears offense would have struggled aganist the Giants they lacked any passing game without MccMahon.

  • frankly agree the Giants would have taken away Walter, and Flutie would have to win the game by himself

  • I agree 100% with your comment YanksJets.

  • Best game ever at the Stadium. Grown men in tears seeing The Big Blue secure their first ever Super Bowl appearence.

  • You never see that team or the atmospher again ever

  • Great day to be in Giants Stadium. I was 3 years old and I wish I old enough to realize how much fun this day way.

  • Memo to CBS, go back to these intros. Doesnt get any better than this.
