Achievements give you points with is added to your GAMERSCORE. When you get a lot of achievements, your GAMERSCORE becomes higher. Basically, it is used for bragging rights. People think HIGHER GAMERSCORE = BETTER PLAYER, which is not true. The points received can't be used to buy anything.
He received 30G in this video which is 30 GAMERSCORE added to his overall score. Trophies on PS3 are the same, only difference is the name. Hope I helped! :D
