Here a couple of shows that might change you perception. The Wire, The Shield, Boomtown season 1, Robbery Homicide division season 1, Crime Story,
Those show keep using the same generic case of the week generic formula. That is good reason why they are mostly ignored by critics. They don't add anything new to the tv medium or go into new territory.
This show was going to take Police procedural to the next level. Now all we have are bland crime procedural like Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, Bones, Criminal Minds, Rizoli and Ilses, that don't take risks. That why I only watch show with serialized elements. (The Chicago Code, Justified, Southland) That way I know that the writer will try to respect my intelligence.
@WithoutRemorse12 This is my first time seeing "Boomtown" and from only watching two eps of the second season, it's pretty good...but it's not Law and Order. The shows you mentioned I have seen (mainly CSI and CSI Miami, Criminal Minds, NCIS) and to me they are NOT bland. We still have the latter shows because they're good. VERY good. I just hope Blue Bloods sticks around for the long haul, for it's been picked up for a second season.
@HowieMistress Sorry but this is still better than all those procedurals that I mentioned. You have to actually watch its first season. In the second season Jeff Zucker had Graham Yost water down the concept. The series was never the same again. The Boomtown shuffle concept was the idea of seeing a crime from different perspectives but never in procedural order. What I'm mean by bland is that they try their hardest to impress every one but fail miserably.
@HowieMistress As for Blue Bloods it one of the worst contrived mess I've seen on CBS. This show was never going to be high concept. CBS a couple months ago fired the sopranos producers and are going to get rid of the serialized content. CBS stopped making authentic and ambitious crime drama way back in the early 2000's. When show short lived Robbery Homicide Division and the four season The District were both canceled.
@HowieMistress Another thing I think you don't understand state of TV business. TV show these days are not on the air because of critical scrutiny. A show can be on the air for year on broadcast for many seasons with ratings but that does not mean that the show is on artistic level is quality. The Reality about Broadcast television is get the most exposure and production money for the lowest quality of work.
@WithoutRemorse12 Eh, I still like the shows you mentioned, and to me they're not bland. I've seen my fair share of great shows and horrible shows, and your list of shows to me aren't that distasteful.
Thanks, PT. Boomtown was such an incredible series. I really wish NBC had included these episodes on the Season 1 discs, since they obviously never intended to produce a complete 2nd season.
lmao, mcnorris at the end. too funny

How did you get them?(meanin season 2?) This show is addicting!

One of the better cop shows around - I got Season 2 from Amazon France (but it's not longer available).
Just found it by luck and paid through the roof to get it. Eg. $20 for Season 1.. Over $100 for Season 2 - but I was desperate to get it.
