  • mr jerry lewis is an all round genius... film maker, comedian, director, producer, actor, etc ..he is also a very proficient dancer.. watch the clip with sheree north.. incredible..

  • This isn't a nightclub gig....he's filming. Something did not work right, either he missed a mark, etc.

  • This doesn't seem like a nightclub act, it seems as if he's filming a bit and wants to get it perfect. He also works his -completely normal- frustration into a gag when they throw all those canes at him. This is great.

  • This was odd! And pretty surreal...

  • He was and always will be a Genius.. Please ,why would you try to put something bad about Him ..woops we all curse but it was amazing and funny and as always beautifully performed.. No screaming no rage.. God ,some people are ignorant...

  • That was angry?

  • An multi-gifted entertainer of a bye-gone age when entertainers had to work! for their money .

  • Sounds like hooked on monkey phonics with the drummer.

Video poster is good at way, way overexaggerating. Must be a tabloid writer.

  • Really? “Over-the-top” angry? “Screams of rage”? I bet my grandmother could scare you with a sneeze, Lampodikt. I’ve seen fiercer displays of anger on Sesame Street. Also the cane work was impressive—did you notice that?

  • i'm sorry but i don't see him screaming in rage at all ya so he got angry but he also worked really hard for what he does but what we all have to realize is that he is also just human so what if he gets mad we all do at some point but we move on after that its part of being human

  • Absolutely fascinating! I remember seeing Lewis on his telethon with a lineup of approximately 99% of the most famous great old tap dancers and he was actually better than any of them. Lewis, Mickey Rooney, and Sammy Davis were all preternaturally talented and you could make a case that Rooney (along with Jackie Gleason) was the best actor of the sound era.

  • Only these days do people think it's unnatural to get angry over anything at all.

  • @timramich Yes, one of the few good things about this PC culture we're suffering through (which is all about mind control, of course) is that it does seem to cut down some on the tantrums (unless, of course, you violate a PC edict, then duck and cover!)

  • He does it again at 3:50 I'm not sure what he was trying to do, but his "scream of rage" seems to be in character (but the "Godammit, cut!" from 1:50 obviously was not)

  • rhars hot

  • Like most people, Jerry can be extremely angry and cranky at times...ESPECIALLY when things don't go his way.

  • I think he was also a bit pissed off at an unappreciative audience. At one point he even had to ask them ''Was that good or not?''. There is nothing worse than playing to a 'dead' audience,I should know because it happened to me, mind you, I was performing at our local care home and most had Alzheimer's, turned out pretty good though as i got paid twice.

  • When you can do this in your sleep and mess up something that only you will notice it is very upsetting because YOU know you messed up

  • You need to recognize emotion before you say crap like that. That's not anger. It's frustration at the most.

  • Jerry Lewis was & is the consummate perfectionist, as well as a bona fide genius. It's hard to be both & not have the occasional meltdown, as he was capable of on occasion. You can see that he just "got it" like few did, or even could. He envisioned things & brought them to life. When they didn't go well, he took it hard. He's was as tough on himself as anyone involved & would not tolerate anyone who was lackadasical or inept at their function or craft. Gotta love him! An icon & a true legend.

  • I find this bit incredible. Anyone who critisizes that entertainment was lame, well, look at it this way, this man could entertain, make you laugh, direct, wrote, god, the list goes on. He brought smiles to faces of thousands without ever having to resort to profanity. Jerry later on was becoming disgruntle at the tremendous amount of stalting that he suffered. Hence the film The Fan, with Robert DeNiro. Forced into seclution only surfacing to make the film The Real Jerk, for charity

  • @sagizanne oops meant the king of comedy with Robert Deniro, after years of being stalked by craze fans. And remember, when wathcing this routine, now that takes skill. I think he hot. Always did for near 40 years.

  • I think this is one of the funniest Lewis bits I've ever seen. And no...I don't understand why he looks so mad after the first SUCCESFUL take. Maybe he meant to screw it up (and accidentally did it right) because the flubs that follow are FUNNY.

  • boy, entertainment sure sucked back then =)

  • @rofflemows2 You just don't get it, do you Stinkwrinkle? I suppose a good "Jersey Shore" marathon, or some Kanye West on your iPod, or maybe the comedy stylings Ralphie May might set you straight again. Enjoy it all douche nozzle. There are a billion folks that know you are screwed when it comes to having a taste for entertainment of any kind or of anyTHING, for that matter. I'll bet your a big fan of AutoTune.

  • Oh god that drummer must have set on fire after this one.

  • @elvismjbeatles143 Yeah! Angry Viruses on the stick! :-)

  • This is the only thing I've ever seen of Jerry Lewis that has ever made me laugh--after he cussed and flubbed the take, and then got really vulnerable as he was struggling through the act. That was actually funny.

  • Entertainment takes all form including mistakes, it is how mistakes are 'performed spontaneously' that separates the natural comic genius from the 'scientific' comics. Jerry Lewis is the former!

  • @slivatree Great comment! :-)

  • @slivatree Indeed, I saw him have similar problems in a video from Vegas in the '80s. He was struggling with the cane tricks but he was able to work around it by using the frustration, running away because the cane was "coming at his head", and so on.

  • Guys this is a routine he has done for years. And the beginning is not a "stupid info show." And the entire bit with the cane is has done for the last half century. He doesn't "get mad." Has anyone else that has commented here actually watched the clip? And this isn't a very rare video either, he included it in the DVD special features of one of his films. (I believe it was the Bellboy?)

  • @sinatrabooth89 Ok, sorry about the initial texing. I was stupid not doing proper researching, sorry. I have removed that text, respecting your facts. I will put some of your info in the info text, if your'e ok with that? But I still do insist he gets mad, because when I & many with me can tell he gets actual "mad" rather than "not mad", he do gets mad. To me. Thanks for your comment! :-)

Of course its not rare, being on the DVD, but this clip is the only one on YT, I think.

  • I'm failing to see what exactly the problem is. Jerry is a person like everybody else and if using the phrase "God damn it" is raging then, many people in the world are filled with rage. Like no one has ever heard and/or said a profane thing in their lives but just because it's Jerry, it's screams of rage??? Yes, Jerry Lewis is a name, great entertainer and a comic genius - he's been that for 80 years but just like everyone else he's a human. It's not that big of a deal. Still a good video =)

  • @MJRookieRook Very well said!!

  • @MJRookieRook Like you say; he is a person like any one of us, and we sometimes gets mad. As he. Being in the spotlight makes him a target of course, but he DOES gets really mad! And: In those times, the sixties, "God damn it" was a MAJOR, MAJOR foul language, especially in such stark public scrutany! And the fact he dressed and acted like a gentleman (gentle), his outburst WAS raging then. At least to me, but who am I trying to convince you..? :-( Thank you for your comment :-).

  • @Lampodikt As I said, it's not that big of a deal. Many people allow the attire & manner of another fool them. So because Jerry appeared to be a gentleman means that if he said a profane phrase he was enraged? He strove for perfection. He practiced over & over until he got it right so frustration while messing up is not abnormal. Dean Martin "acted" like a gentleman but he drank, committed adultery & used profanity. So what? I'm not encouraging bad things but everyone was born out of sin.

  • @MJRookieRook that's not what "born out of sin" means! jeesh!

  • @wattever333 I know what being born into sin means. Nowhere in my last comment did I say "Here's the definition of being born into sin..." My whole point was that no one's actions of life are always the right or smartest choices. All I did was point out a few things. Maybe next time you ought to know exactly what is trying to be explained before you attempt to correct someone.

  • Right when he gets mad, you see what he really is like. Seriously pissed off right there, lol!

  • You have to understand the man really was/is an idiot in all practical regards..You can argue he has millions and therefore he was a genius, but then I'd ask you if Gaddafi (a billionaire) was a genius and you'd probably say no. I will say I enjoyed his stint on Law and Order, and a friend said he was super nice on a Broadway play he did with him, but many are nice around actors. I don't like it when people say GD, but I do like other off color remarks he's made and even though

  • @Yepprd I to get bewildered when imbecills recieves fame and fortune... But a TO complex idea or product, riscs of falling harder to common liking. I sometimes wish my IQ where about 35 steps lower, fitting to the general average of 100. My smartness has not helped me one bit through life. Really the opposite, actually...

  • Heyyy he could have been a drum major!!!

  • False advertising. A "goddammit" + "Cut!" does not amount to rage or screaming. Besides, Lewis' profane asides are one of the best things about him.

  • @schnitzie13 I see what you mean, but I would have been stupid headlining "Jerry Lewis gets mildly angry and tries to scream of rage". No one would have want to see that. I still believe he screams of rage - respecting your opinion - as oppose to the impression of a funny guy he imprinted in us. Thanks for you posting :-)

  • @9162vb48 Jerry Lewis is a comic genius, period.

  • @9162vb48 Well said!

  • Love, Love Jerry Lewis

  • yeah robby perez comment....fucking up the arsenal. Thanks* Love It.Arsenal- ESP Big Ones* - get it.

  • ie ZOOM into a close up*

  • Somebody should make a digital copy of the gun play and zom ito a tight shot W O W *

Nobody has EVER done that before......He *s a first at many important thigingning

  • I'm not quite getting it. Lewis is obviously reacting to his own performance. He simply did not get the effect he was going for.

  • @thephotoplayer This seem to be the best explanation to him getting so angry! Good point :-)

  • Great footage how did you get it?

  • @crmfghtr Dvd

  • what was the non-visual mistake?

  • @riveraes1991 Well, just before he starts screaming, he actually catches the stick as one expect him to do... Maybe I^m not getting the whole picture of why he would get so angry.

  • @Lampodikt You're right, you are not getting the whole picture. Jerry is a perfectionist. There must have been something wrong, at least to him, with that attempt. If you notice on that attempt, he catches the cane from the bottom... and is bent over a the waist. On a later attempt that he seems happy with, he catches it in the middle by reaching upstage.

Why title your video in a way that makes Jerry look bad, simply so you can get more views?

  • @brendalg4 You may be right, but we have no explanation from the man himself, so the title stands. & whatever his reasons, he DO gets over-the-top angry. In that sence I'm NOT title-lying. I'm really trying not to, with ALL my uploads. I REALLY, REALLY HATE getting tricked into viewing a bad clip, based on being totally wrong-titled, ONLY for boosting views. I DO NOT do such malice. I hope you see I make sence, no matter how you feel I'm putting down your idol (and mine!). Regards :-)

  • @brendalg4 And one other thing: I never say he is a bad person for getting angry. Like you said him being a perfectionist; it must be so frustrating when your'e surrounded by people not achieving to your own level of standards. Anyone would get a bit mad about that! He "earned" himself a rumour of being bad tempered, in between being very generous. Unfortunately, "angry" conquers greater attention than "nice".

I for one feel that constructive angriness could be positive sometimes!

  • Hey, wait a second. I feel, I feel -- I feel as though he has a sliver of talent.

No, sorry, it must be the gas I've had since last Friday.

  • @9162vb48 Haha! Do you sence talent through your rectum..?

  • @Lampodikt

    Doesn't everyone???

  • @Lampodikt That must be one hell of a casting couch!!!

  • @robbyperez In this case, I believe Jerry was both the superior and the aspirant, since this performance was a "side show" to the recordings of "The Errand Boy". Which would meen he fucked himself up the arsenal... But history shows he´s been kind of egotistical, but still I find him great.

  • THIS one can't spell sense. Maybe he's foreigh..or dumb.

  • I'd like to know the IQ of the idiot who was in the line of fire of Jerry's gun.

    Was he French?

    BLAAAHAAHAAAAA!

  • no wonder Dean and Jerry split....interesting to watch though.

  • awww, why don't we get to see his feet when he taps?

  • @dancepiglover I agree, I would have wanted to see his feet to.... :-( But unfortunately this is all I found on the dvd.
