  • Can u decode the strange sounds being heard around the world

  • @cornfeed34 much of it, but certainly not everything.

  • very good video Alex, thanks and 73s

  • Hi, I use a program called Soundflower. I have to change my system output to soundflower, then use another program (cocoaModem, works great) to convert it. I have to set that input to soundflower. When I do this, I can't hear anything. I have to open up another program that plays it, which just runs down my memory. Do you know anything I can do that would make this work, while playing sound? The only reason I don't do this method is others in my house will get annoyed with me! Thanks.

  • Thank you so much. This helps me get started.

  • For a different project, I tried to connect the Phone Out to the Line In on my iMac. It worked fine - in fact much better than using the built-in microphone as I did on this video.

  • So there's no way of having a Mac Pro do this without hooking up an external sound loop? I have no built-in microphone.

  • Actually, you might be able to route the audio from the browser to fldigi using software like WireTap Anywhere. A bit expensive and I didn't try it.

  • Excellent video! Thanks for letting me know about this. Now I don't have to purchase that $12k Yeasu! LOL

  • Cool video. In my situation of not having any HF equipment, this is a great way for me to listen in. Do you know how much of a delay there is in the website you were using compared to what is being broadcasted on air?

    KD7MNI

  • That's a good question.

Given many potential bottlenecks on the Internet the delay could be several seconds; however, once you have a stable connection established I would expect it to be much less, maybe one second or so. The processing software running in your browser will also introduce some delay but I would expect that to be no more than ~100 milliseconds.

I will try during the weekend.

  • Great video, look forward to more

I find the online receivers interesting to monitor, just to see what the other side of the world is hearing on the band.

  • Indeed. To me it would be very exotic to hear an 80 or 40 meter band packed with VK, ZL, JA, ... stations :))

  • Hey Alex,

Very impressive! Thanks for this updating.

  • it is possible to make funny qso's using websdr. For example i use my TXCVR for transmit (testing in 40m band) and websdr for rx, and hear my own signal. hi

I worked few stations, cw, ssb, psk and is cool. Some stations was heard on websdr and nothing in txcvr or reverse.

The sistem is great for a lot of tests

For example N2YO use the websdr for control his signals to Europe.

    Very good video Alex

    Have fun

  • Thanks for the info. Have you noticed any significant delay between your transmission and the reception?

  • The delay is maximum 1-1.5 sec. ( i think) but in weekend. Normaly is below 1 sec.

  • This is cool and all but you can't transmit which is the fun part.

  • That would be fun but also difficult to manage since the websdr host would have to check that the user has a valid hamradio license.

I think the receiver alone has very interesting applications. For example, you can use it to monitor your own transmission and check propagation.

  • Yeah but it can be done....I know that there are a few places that you can do it...one is through Echolink...don't really like them because they tend to be a bit snotty. Still though for a newbie this is great place to come to listen to CW or even do some PSK32 or even just practicing because it takes some time to get your ears tuned.

  • Alex, this is really cool. Thanks for the demo! I wish there was a way for fldigi to directly tap into the audio output channel, instead of going through the microphone. I have a PC-1500 receiver, I wonder if it can connect to that device.

  • I think you can get programs that can route the sound path between input/output and applications but I have not tried that on Mac. Might even be easy to implement it using Xcode.

If you refer to the ICOM IC-PCR1500 you should be able to get the audio into the computer using either the PACKET or the EXT SP audio outputs. The EXT SP will probably cause distortion and noise even with volume turned down but I expect it will be better than using the microphone :)
