  • SCHMETTERLING ..

  • Love you Nina

  • Don was out of line with the war jokes, but Nina handled it like a true lady. Even tho he made continuous jabs at her, she came out on TOP!

  • Sorry I'm with Don on this... she's a whack job.

  • anyone mention Johanna Went and Diamanda Galas as few more. early Bjork years before the international fame thing hit.

  • HAHAH Don can rank you out right to your face and you will laugh!

  • I'M NOT THAT LONELY HAHHAHA

  • Wow... "No wonder they lost the war" How fucking rude can you get? I do love Don but that is a little fucked up

  • She is a certifiable nut, but an extremely talented singer - what a cutie she was too!

  • Omg, this was hilarious !!!

  • America was so uptight in the 80s.Too bad we didn't recognize her genius back then. Definitely ahead of her time.

  • @RedSoreLips She is not a genius.

  • this is what tv would be like in my version of the world

  • Big mistake to have Don on the show at the same time as Nina. Only time I've seen Don being awkward...........

  • For those of you that are criticizing Rickles then you don't know Rickles. Search YT for Rickle clips and you will find he is quite tame here.

I Saw Nina in the early 80s in San Francisco and was a great show as the venue was small

Again Rickles makes fun of everyone regardless of who they are including President Reagan, Watch the following clip on YT

    watch?v=wjnJw99AP7U

  • @MrHoolits He is an insult comedian, so kind of comes with the territory. Nina properly sat him down for trying to bring up WWII. Love her talking about marrying Frank Sinatra in her dream, and Rickle's reaction.

  • I feel bad for Nina here. I can't believe Don Rickles is making German jokes! Very prejudiced and mean. I also did not like how they were making fun of her,not cool guys. I love her,and I love how she just says what she feels. It was really cool when she was singing the "Don't kill the animals" lyrics. She is so pure and goes with her heart and true feelings always.

  • @shinyeyedwomyn what's even worse is that Don Rickles not only is making German jokes, but Nina's paternal grandparents were Jewish and killed in the holocaust. If Don only knew he'd have shut the hell up.

  • @zentopia7 Wow,that is really heartbreaking and tragic about Nina's grandparents. I wish some people would realize that you don't have to be cruel to be funny.

  • @shinyeyedwomyn Wow you're dumb lol Rickles is just joking he's not being serious. Every joke he does is said with love.

  • The Original ''Beat It''.

  • HEY WHAT ABOUT PATTI SMITH?

  • Nina Hip Hop?

  • Shes totally bonkers. Love it lol.

  • CAT OPERA SICK SICK

  • DON RICKELS WAS SUCH A JERK ON THIS CLIP!

  • @HARLOWETV You're dumb too! Rickles is joking as in not being serious! Anyone with half a brain can see that!

  • @JLazn I didn't comment on whether or not he was being serious or not , I said he was a jerk , much like yourself .

  • half jewish what do you expect

  • message to future fabricated stars out there: get a youtube account, imitate what you see and hear, then claim you worked to build that special "talent" of yours for years.

  • Don Rickles HATES to be upstaged! lol lol

  • A German exchange student in high school back in 1980 turned me on to Nina...Thank You Ilse!

  • she dose not look 47 fuck

  • @kozmocramer24 SHE'S 32 IN THIS VIDEO O.0

  • Comment removed

  • i love this clip!

  • This is hilarious!!!!

  • Nina left Madonna and Gaga in the Dust!!! She is so much more in every way. She is just amazing!! So beautiful and talented. Btw I we have a mutual friend that just passed away, if she hadn't put Ari's song on her FB Page I wouldnt have known shed passed. Thank u Nina. R.I.P. Ari Up.

  • @KingkyKongBen ARE YOU KIDDING ME.....YOU JUST BROKE MY HEART. This video was my introduction to nina , I used to get home from school and watch Merv every day. She blew me away , and I've been a huge fan ever since . Reading that really hurt me. WOW! R.I.P. NINA!

  • @lovley7000 Nina Hagen is NOT dead. She is 56 years old, still active and has just finished a tour of Denmark. She is very much still alive.

  • @jrb1802uk YEAH I REALIZED THAT SOON AFTER THAT POST . I GOOGLED IT . BUT THANK YOU. IT SUCKS WHEN PEOPLE PUT OUT MISS/INFO WITH OUT CONFIRMING IT TO BE SO. IT'S MEAN SPIRITED I THINK . I WAS REALLY UPSET BY IT, AND I'M HAPPY TO KNOW SHE'S STILL AROUND SHE MADE SUCH AN IMPACT ON ME , WITH THIS VERY APPEARANCE . . AGAIN THANKS FOR CLARIFYING . VIVA LA NINA!!!!!!

  • @lovley7000 SHÉ NOT DEAD!!! Don't know where this person got this info - she's got a reality show right now in Germany.

  • @KingkyKongBen This video was my introduction to Nina , I used to get home from school and watch Merv every day. She blew me away , and I've been a huge fan ever since . VIVE NINA! And sorry for you loss.

  • I like Rickles, but sometimes he's such a boorish ass.

Hagen makes Bjork look like the girl next door!

  • I love Nina Hagen! Merv was so cool to have her on twice actually!

  • Before Prince PoopyCock and Lady Gag-Gag, there was Nina Hagen.

    Strange by any standards...

  • @KaptKan1 Yep, I remember her, she,s artistic nut, dude getten old gudnite

  • You youngsters don't know what you're talking about. Avant garde performers like Nina Hagen, Cyndi Lauper, Toyah Wilcox, Lene Lovich, Siouxsie Sioux, Danielle Dax and yes, even Madonna paved the way for pop musicians like Lady Gaga. RESPECT.

  • @noinim you forgot Grace Jones and Wendy o. Williams in your list!

  • @mondocaneman Grace Jones? Hmmm .... Don't want offend any fans. Maybe I got the genres mixed up; I don't know. It's sometimes hard to tell. But, how about Sarah Palin and Madam Clinton? Just wondering. Thanks.

  • @mondocaneman i didn't want to ramble on and on, but both Grace Jones and Wendy O. Williams definitely belong to this group of pioneering female performance artist. and since we're on track, some additional note worthies are Kate Bush, Yoko Ono and Diamanda Galas.

  • @noinim don't forget..also female greats and legends like.. Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Joan Baez, Cher, Tina Turner, Debbie Harry, Lena Horne, Brenda Lee, Nancy Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Lesley Gore, Dolly Parton, June Carter, Wanda Jackson, Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton-John, Yma Sumac, Connie Francis, Chrissie Hynde, Dinah Cancer (from 45 Grave), Alice Bag (from the Bags), Lita Ford, Joan Jett, the Runaways.,. L7, Lunachicks..

  • @mondocaneman and of course the astounding Maria Callas!!! lots of great classics there for sure, though i wouldn't consider most them "avant garde" in a performance art sense (in comparison to flamboyant 'out there' types like Hagen, Bush, Sioux, etc.). regardless, each has definitely made an impression on the field of female musicianship. and kudos on the mentions of Yma Sumac, Cher and Dinah Cancer!

  • @noinim Dead on! Cheers friend, you have taste and intelligence. I'd also like to add Dale Bozzio(Missing Persons) to your flawless list!

  • @mondocaneman JUST watched the Plasmatics on the "fishing musician" on my Second City box set I just bought! LOL, it's hilarious! Band sounds great too. Wendy tears the whole set apart with a sledgehammer, lol!

  • @noinim I've never heard of Toyah Wilcox or Danielle Dax. I'll have to check 'em out.

  • @noinim ...(know it's been a year) and maybe even Julie Brown with the brassy personality and wild hair... and she's styling!!

  • @noinim, Cyndi Lauper does not belong i the same group as Hagan and Lovich.

Lauper is a Pop Star where the others were truly avant garde.

  • @MrHoolits ok, how bout we exchange Lauper with Kate Bush then? no one can argue that one! :P

  • @noinim, I can't comment on Kate Bush but can on Cyndi Lauper who was and is a Pop Star.

I not saying Cyndi is a bad person as she seems to be a good person. I just don't find her "Avant Garde" but Pop and yet not in the same category as media whores Madonna & Gaga.

    It's just my opinion.

Lauper did destroy Marvin Gaye's "What's going on". Wow that was truly awful. If one can't make make a song or movie better, then leave it alone.

  • @noinim So true.....and how funny she makes the heart sign with her hands which is now so popular..and this was over 25 years ago...just saying. She was kind of batshit crazy..but also very talented. Much like some of the others on your list....

  • @noinim You're right - these women wrote the book and everything that's being done today - Kate Bush especially.

  • @tacomadc Julie Tippett, Genya Raven, April Lawton, Jilly St.John,

  • Don's reaction is priceless.

  • If I didn't kow this was real, I'd have sworn it was SCTV.

  • if this were the gong show and not merv grfiffin, she woulda been gonged 60 seconds into it.

  • I love you Don.

  • what the hell????

  • ??? I dont remember her.

  • Boy Don really put his foot in it when the Jewish comment comes out. All the comedy left right there.

  • I know Nina said he would marry soon, and I just found out he did get married in 1976.....erie

  • what year was this??

  • Lady Gaga the Original

  • You're right.....lol!

  • @alextothemax lady gaga will never be this cool.

  • @mwells219 i thought the same thing; but gaga is a better marketer and will probably be around for a longer time.

  • @jimmysudar no amount of marketing can save you when your fifteen minutes are up and you have no real talent.

  • @mwells219 if you're right, we should be done with that justin beiber soon. soon, please, soon!

  • @mwells219 Amen to that Gaga is so late to the party.

  • This qualifies as surrealist art!

  • EVEN BETTER THAN THE LETTERMAN CLIP!!
