  • I just did some research and it seems that yes some of the stories and the losing of bombers is fabricated, even if the combat record is all fabricated it still don't get rid of the fact that they were there and that they were in a fucked up situation and still served.

  • Majot shooter Mcgavin

  • Let it be known to all that read these words..bigots and non-bigots alike..never have we had in the anals of history, a group of braver men. These incredibly brave African American warriors were laughed at, mocked, even physically beaten by their own white countrymen. They endured all this yet prevailed to serve their country! So racists, bow your heads in shame! For we shall never see the likes of these extraordinary supermen ever again... the legendary elite warriors... The Tuskegee Airmen!

  • Red, white, black, orange, purple. If you fought along side the allies you deserve my respect and the respect of any human being on this planet. You were the ones that actually fought for my freedom. My rights. War no longer has a reason to be in the modern world. The brave men and women of WWI and WWII already served that duty. Another ignored contribution, I'd like to also thank the Sikh nation for fighting as and beside those brave soldiers. Freedom is color blind.

  • Why so many people here want to post do many negative things? Easy... They are somehow trying to minimize the Tuskegee airmen's accomplishments due to racism and hate. LOL!! Haters go sit on a broomstick!!! We have a black president hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! Wooooooooooooooo!!! Go drown in your hate!!

  • 25 bombers lost, no destroyer sank, no b17 crew asked for escort For the truth Google

nine myths about the tuskegee airmen

  • wow now two movies the wizard of oz and this one has flying monkeys :)

  • @0318brian ...Ya know, I fought in the Iraq war for you as a Naval Officer. Some of these comments are unbelievable in 2012. Tsk Tsk...

Regardless of my color, I use your hate as motivation to do better!

  • @navyman4 you fought in the Iraq War as a Naval Officer? lol man oh man what contradiction in terms! not only were you on a boat no where near the real fighting I'm sure, but you were an officer! You could join me in my Humvee anytime, then I'd like to hear you say you "fought". Sir! your statement makes me hate officers even more. You don't give a shit about us boots on the ground that do the real fighting and dying, fukn paper pushers.

  • @LastBlastOfMy45 ....PAPER PUSHERS? Um listen here bucko. I made it from E-1 all the way to 0-3. I also operated small boats and landing craft the SEALS on the ground used.

Furthermore, I was IN COUNTRY during the Kosovo conflict. I've seen my share of missles and bombs fly right past me young man.

Now, I reverse engineer IED's for a living.

I have more respect for grunts who were on the ground but you are SADLY mistaken that I merely pushed paper on my ship and on the ground.

  • @navyman4 Kosovo? LOL How many u.s. soldiers died in that war? Two fat asses from twinkie induced heart attacks? Seriously, there was ONE u.s. combat fatality during that ENTIRE war. So stop trying to push your blatant lies and francis ford coppola apocalypse now war moments you paper pushing lying coward.

  • @nexusdawn ...First of all, you have an accute insensitivity to other services. Second of all, you may have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder! You will piss me off if you keep acting ignorant. A sailor died on our ship during General Quarters. Two more died performing a Visit Board Search and Siezure of an oil tanker that sunk with them on there. Countless flight deck injuries and a suicide.

If you think the ENTIRE U.S. Navy (beside SEALS) are a bunch of Twinkie eating Fat Asses, think again!

  • @navyman4 You must be the twinkie eating fat ass, since all that synthetic sugar saturated your brain. Just a few posts ago, you were trying to impress some young person through bragging and deceit. Making it seem like you experienced dangerously harsh combat conditions, narrowly escaping multitudes of bombs and missels with your life. When the simple historical fact is the u.s. had only ONE -combat- fatality during during it's -entire- involvement from 1995–2004. So you're simply full of BS.

  • @navyman4 p.s. And for such an expert in the field, you sure seem to have an extremely difficult time understanding the simple difference between Combat Fatalities and accidents with fatal outcomes, like tripping over untied shoelaces, during the course of deployment.

  • @nexusdawn ...I never denied that we only had ONE combat fatality. You are deceiving yourself due to your OWN lack of attention to detail and poor reading skills. I am letting you know deaths, PTSD and high optempo exists in other services besides the Army and Marine Corps. Air Force weenies often have it worse than grunts. Sure they dont' see as much death/destruction; however, they still serve. We launched 3 missles a week at Kosovo. THOUSANDS passed overhead. Not one hit us=blessed!

  • @LastBlastOfMy45 ..Paper pusher? Dude, I went from E-1 to 0-3. I was former enlisted before commissioning.

I was also a small boat officer for the SEALS. I've seen more missles fly past me than you can shake a stick at. I was ALSO in Kosovo and Yugoslavia during the conflict with Slobodan Melosevich.

I currently reverse IEDs and design RF counter-measures.

    You best STAND DOWN!

  • These men were "the best" of the race. They all had degrees, some post-graduate. I can't even imagine how much pressure they must've felt to succeed.

  • "How about a loop?" (owned face)

    Hahahahaha

  • tuskegee airmen= badass

  • I HATE THIS.... DNT GET ME WRONG I LOVE THE MOVIE BUT THE SOUNDS SO FREAKING LOW :(

  • These men were treated like shit by there own country even when they volunterred to fight and still fought bravely and heroically for their nation in wartime. I don't care what color you are that says something great about those men.

  • even if that instructor was a racist bastard he probably spurred them on to greater feats

  • So from what I can gather from some of the older comments is that the implied truth is the Tuskegee pilots were average at best (they were, statistically) and that white people, apparently, are the king end-all he-men when it comes to fighting a war.

Ignoring the trouble with proving that, I'll just move onto the more pressing issue: who the FUCK wants to be considered the best at waging war? It's like saying you're the most prolific murderer. Whites can have that one.

  • @educatedcockroach

Yeah, there was some BS propagated in post war, both by white ANd blakc america about no bombers being shot down covered by them,...no; they had bombers shot down too.

  • @Warsie There's so many quibbles like the bombers they lost only being due to flak, or losing bombers when they weren't the primary escorts, and so on that its kind of silly. I'm not denying that they were trailblazers and a good social step forward, but they hype that they were also one of the best units is just that, hype. If you want to make a movie about a black unit that had a string of awards for heroism in combat, why not the 761st Tank Battalion?

  • Or hell, if you want to make a movie about soldiers fighting the enemy and racism at home, why not the 442nd Regiment. It was made up of Japanese-Americans (considered the enemy by most of their own country) and is to this day the most-decorated unit of its size in the US Army. How a movie about them has not been made is beyond me.

  • @educatedcockroach Go check a movie named "Go For Broke!", it's about the regiment you talked about.

  • @Warsie, they lost 25 bombers out of hundreds of escorts. That's an excellent record and they deserve all the accolades they receive. If you don't think so, why did you click on this video to watch this movie? You can always go read a history book or watch a documentary about another fighter unit.

  • @MsCaramello73

I clicked on the video to watch this movie because I was looking for more things on 'Red Tails'. Also Ive seen this movie before. I do read and look up other fighter units (and other things), my speciality for WWII history is actually the Eastern Front and the second Sino-Japanese War.

  • @Warsie I did the same thing, only different actors that is all, they add a little more to the story

when I watched the trailer I was a loittle confuse and start looking, my family always talked about the war and what theses guys did to help this country,

  • @MsCaramello73 I just looked at their *actual* statistics. They were exceeded by every other fighter group in WWII, in other words, they were the lowest in achievement. But it doesn't surprise me that they're being celebrated in a movie like this.

  • @boaire , actually that's incorrect. The Tuskegee Airmen only lost 25 bombers in over 100 bomber escorts, which is a better record than any other fighter group. Also, they had to overcome more obstacles than any other fighter group to engage in air-to-air combat and become fighter pilots in the first place. It also doesn't surprise me that they are being celebrated in a movie like this. They deserve it.

  • @MsCaramello73 Do you admit that for over 60 years the original story was that they hadn't lost a single bomber, and that that was the primary claim to fame? If not losing more than 25 bombers, as you say, is such a great achievement, then why the fabrication?

  • @boaire , I admit that a media outlet did claim that they never lost a bomber. That was one claim to fame, however, it wasn't the primary claim to fame. Their primary claim to fame was that they were the first black fighter pilots that were THE BEST at escorting bombers despite, THE FABRICATION that they weren't intelligent enough to fly a plane at all. Why that fabrication?

  • @MsCaramello73 Of course it was their primary claim to fame, because it was only a matter of months ago that their historian, William E. Holton announced that his research proved that this was not true. For you to say that for 60 years of people believing this myth is not a factor in their fame, I find that incredible. I would say it was the biggest factor. The records show that when compared to the other fighter groups, the Tuskegee Airmen come in last.

  • @boaire , Of course it was their primary claim to fame. I'm not going to debate with you about it. You obviously don't have a clue. I hope you live long enough to experience something more "incredible" than someone disagreeing with your erroneous assessments of the importance of the first black American fighter pilots. Also, your arguments are weak. It's been discovered that they weren't perfect, so they don't deserve accolades for all their accomplisments? Sure, that makes sense.

  • @MsCaramello73 Had this award been given for their military achievements alone, it should also have been awarded to each and every other fighter group in WWII whose records exceeded those of the Tuskegee Airmen. In my opinion, this was a “political award” instead of a military award. Another thing is, these "black" pilots don't look black at all. They're just as much white as they are black. Explain this please, unless it's one of those unmentionable subjects.

  • @boaire The Tuskegee Airen were THE BEST. The were requested by their white peer to accompany them because they were the Tuskegee Airmen were the best. Stop being jealous, hater, or whatever you are. Then you want to sit there and say their white. Stop being an shit stained ass. Seriously.

  • @trooper40below Look at their *actual* statistics. They were exceeded by every other fighter group in WWII, in other words, they were the lowest in achievement.

  • @boaire No true. I think you need to go look at the actual statistic. The Tuskegee Airmen were truly the best. Just stop being hater.

  • @trooper40below Their own historian, William E. Holten is the one who has came out to say that what people had previously thought about the Tuskegee Airman were in fact "myths". So maybe you should go argue with him.

  • @boaire They dd great considering the fighters they flew were C level at best. Wonder what they could have done on EVEN playing ground. So spare me with your soap box editorials..

  • @whayes8084 "Even playing ground". Translation - If one of the "victim groups" out there doesn't preform well, you kept changing the rules in their favor, and making it easier till they do. That's great.

  • @boaire Dude, do your homework. Yes, they lost some bombers, but only to enemy anti-aircraft fire. If you read the *actual* statistics, you'd see that they never lost a bomber to enemy fighters. Escorts can't do anything about AA. And as for them being "statistically" lower in achievement, they were put on limited deployment. They did not see nearly as much action as some of the other "more successful" fighter wings.

Statistics don't lie, but they also don't tell the whole story.

  • @captross07 Oh, and why do all these "black pilots" look so white?

  • @boaire Okay...they are CLEARLY not white. Are you color blind or just plain stupid? Either that, or you're just being a fucking troll.

"Why do they look so white?" Really?

  • @boaire I'm sorry, I can't let this go. Are you saying that in order for someone to be "black," they have to "Wesley Snipes" dark? I...I don't even understand the logic behind your question. I don't know if I should be mad at you or if I should just feel sorry for you.

  • @captross07 What happened was that when first started looking into the controversies behind these pilots, I kept see posts from people commenting on how white they looked. So I looked for photos of them, and I was a bit surprised at how white they did look. Sure. it's one of those topics that aren't allowed to be discussed in the media, but I thought I'd see what people here thought. Is it off topic?

  • @boaire Ignorant is blessed, enjoy life for once.

  • @Hmonks That's a polite way of saying, "Sorry that topic isn't politically correct, so it can't be talked about."

  • @boaire Ignorant- the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.

  • @Hmonks Again, you're just hiding behind political correctness tactics to avoid an unpleasant subject.

  • @7:20 cadet lee was asked to name an element and he said H20, he was incorrect. Water isn't an element, its a compound.

  • @Pentazoid111 An element is an origianal compound made from natural resources therefore water is a element :)

  • @vangnixon916 PWND. Awesome pentazoid111.

  • @Pentazoid111

    Classical elements.

  • I can't believe that they called it an "experiment," I am sure they knew they needed African Americans to join, but they just didn't want to swallow their "pride."

  • Some white people like this ma was so terrible in treating black people and thinking that they cannot fly a plane. Shit makes me sick how some WHITE PEOPLE CAN THINK OF US. And yes this is coming from a black person.

  • 2:24 isn't his country either, go back to europe if you think they should go back to africa

  • @Dawmoon That is good thing to know, but aint going back to Spain this is our country as well as yours.

  • Reading some of these older comments from posters; people arguing over the Tuskegee Airmen's, lack of skills and accuracy records in combat. Questions:

How many of you critics posting here, have actually operated any type of aircraft unassisted?

How many of you laptop warriors have actually operated an aircraft in aerial combat before?

How many of you were born during the time of the Tuskegee Airman?

None of you laptop warriors would be worthy to polish one pair of their boots!

  • @willie33040 keyboard warriors lol

  • "Well then...follow me, Lindburg" I lol'ed

  • Random thought:

    I like belly dancers

  • There seems to be a lot of experts here, definition of an expert is" X is an unknown factor and SPURT is a drip under pressure"

  • One more point regarding this video clip. At 3:11 It is pointed out that Joe Louis beat Max Schmeling in a boxing match in 1938, however what is always conveniently FORGOTTEN when it comes to this point is that the 1938 fight was the RE-MATCH to the 1936 bought when Max Schmeling knocked Joe Louis out. Funny how the truth ALWAYS comes out in the end.

  • Comment removed

  • my view on race..... if you wanna kill nazis too.... you are my brother.

  • Well!, follow me Mr. Lindburgh....

  • Too bad this story is completely fake. There was no "perfect record". Since this movie came out it has been determined that they lost no fewer than 25 bombers during their missions. Another attempt to re-write history for political correctness.

  • @Crimble67

If these "facts" came to light "Since this movie came out"...you would better represent the school district you came from by remaining quiet.

  • @MrDen312 So now my school district is to blame for not teaching a story that never existed before some communist bastards decided to alter history?

  • @Crimble67 I'm referring to your contradictory statements. You say "since this movie came out it has been determined..." but you also call the movie "Another attempt to re-write history for political correctness." 1 minute it sounds like a disproven myth and another moment intentional propaganda. Whether they lost bombers or not...u r completely missing the point. At worst, they were just as good as white fighter pilots..despite having every odd against them. Ur conspiracy theory is overkill.

  • @MrDen312 My assertion is the film makers knew the perfect record was false, yet they made the movie anyway. Then it was incumbent upon truth seekers to disprove the myth. The top German ace had 352 kills to his record. Approximately 445 Tuskegee airmen served in the European theater with a grand total of 112 German planes shot down while 150 Tuskegee airmen died in aerial combat or training accidents and lost a minimum of 25 U.S. bombers during escort missions. Not a very impressive record.

  • @Crimble67 I don't know their record and while I can't take your assertions off of face value, I can't say you're totally wrong. With that said, you have focused on the accuracy of their record and the movie is not about the record. The movie is about the Tuskegee Airmen. The record is a cherry on top. It gets mentioned where? in the narrative that precedes the final credits? I do think you are dismissing what it took for those men to be pilots and that is where I think you err, not the record.

  • @MrDen312 In America today the truth is unfortunately NOT very relevent or important. The only thing that is important is that people FEEL good about themselves for achievements they haven't earned or deserved.

  • @Crimble67 I agree with a large portion of this Crimble, however I assure you that I would FEEL good about their achievements whether or not the record is accurate. Going through all the things they did, to fight in a war for a country that treated them worse than German POWs...that's an achievement they earned and deserved, on top of any other achievements that earned in uniform. If the record is a myth, it's a myth but you don't have to dismiss their importance & relevance to the Armed Forces

  • @MrDen312 Where you and I are at an impasse is that I don't care "what they had to go through". Doesn't interest me in the slightest. I clearly have a different perspective on world history than you and since I didn't attend PC University we will never "see eye to eye" on this matter or any other.

  • @Crimble67 Well, that's just why I said something to you. Your comments really didn't have anything to do with the substance of the movie, because you focused on the record which the movie is not about. Likewise, I thought it weird that while you want to take away the fame for a record you say they do not hold (which I can understand), you admittedly don't care "what they had to go through" which is beneath you, I think. To not care about their process but care about their record is lacking.

  • @Crimble67 Really Crimble, I'm sure there are matters we "see eye to eye" on and I would flunk out of PC University if I ever attended it (interestingly enough my boss just talked to me about my needs for improvement in that area). I'm not insulted by your words, I'm just glad to dialogue with someone on here without it turning into a profanity, laced rant. I celebrate these guys but I still took from what you've said and will look into the disputes about their record because I want to know too.

  • @MrDen312 but you do realize that the record is correct right. the Tuskeege airman never lost a single bomber while escorting them to drop zones when it came to AIR TO AIR KILLS. when it game to shots from german AA guns the pilots have no control over that. anyone who read a book would know that when they say never lost a bomber they mean from air to air combat. crimble is an idiot and you shouldn't waste time arguing with idiots.

  • @Crimble67 yes crimble the record is true the tuskeegee airman never lost a single bomber from AIR TO AIR COMBAT when it came to shots from german AA guns the tuskeegee airman have no control over that read a dam book

  • @Evilstewie831 From one idiot to another, you read a book and you'll find that the Tuskegee Airmen record is full of holes and has been picked apart in recent years because the TRUTH always comes out in the end. IN FACT, Bill Horman, one of the former Tuskegee Airmen HIMSELF, was quoted in a newspaper article, "the Tuskegee story is about pilots who rose above adversity and discrimination, not about whether their record is perfect."

  • @Evilstewie831 The top German ace of WW II was Eric Hartmann who shot down 352 aircraft BY HIMSELF. Several German aces shot down in excess of 300 planes. The Tuskegee Airmen combined were credited with shooting down a total of 112 German planes. "

"From 1941 to 1946, approximately 445 Tuskegee Airmen were deployed overseas, and 150 Airmen lost their lives in accidents or combat" So the Tuskegee Airmen lost more pilots than they shot down. Not a very efficient way to fight a war, eh?

  • @Crimble67 that wasn't the point i was trying to make though u just ran your mouth with information that isn't valid due to the fact that it doesn't connect to the point i was making. i was talking about the facts on the bombers they protected nothing more nothing less but you just went off in a totally different direction this convo is pointless.o

  • @Evilstewie831 Nobody can handle the truth anymore unless it is POLITICALLY CORRECT!

  • @Crimble67 again, avoiding the major point your ignorance is hilarious

  • @Evilstewie831 We've never been at war with East Asia...we've always been at war with East Asia! 2+2=5 and I love Big Brother!

  • @Crimble67 yeah your dumb

  • @Evilstewie831 Oh, I'M dumb??? You just used the possessive pronoun "your" in place of "you're" which is the contraction for "you are". Any third grader knows the difference between the two, you apparently don't! I suggest returning to elementary school and starting over from the beginning!

  • @Crimble67 right being a grammar Nazi makes you so smart. took you 24 hours to come up with that right.

  • Comment removed

  • @Crimble67 I'm Italian for the record, but let me point out a few things out Mr. historian. Yes there were more aces from Germany than any other country in the world, and Eric Hartman the "black death" had 352 kills, but why? Because they saw more combat than any other airforce, and the majority of their kills were from ill equipped air forces and poorly trained pilots. The Tuskegee airmen did not have the best planes like the german aces, nor the training or support from their Country.

  • @GKris1989 "The Tuskegee Airmen did not have the best planes" - WTF? Are you high? The P-51 Mustang was THE best piston driven airplane of World War II. If anything the Tuskegee Airmen should have had the advantage by the late stage in the war when they saw real action due to the fact that many of Germany's best pilots had already been killed or captured. No, I think the Tuskegee Airmen were a total failure and their "story" has been dug up in this age of political correctness we live in!

  • @Crimble67

The Tuskegee Airmen have a solid combat record, and though they lost some bombers they still performed better than a lot of other fighter wings in the theatre. In addition, taking on Me-262 jets which were primarily assigned to veteran Luftwaffe pilots and bringing them down is no easy feat. If anything, you seem to be a 'total failure' in your attempts at criticism.

  • @YoumaKing I forgot to mention that the Tuskegee Airmen were credited with shooting down 112 enemy planes while losing 150 of their own. Not a very efficient way to fight a war, eh, to lose more pilots than you shoot down?

  • @Crimble67 Ok first off idiot im not high, are you? They flew a outdated p 51 with average performance, no turbo chargers, no bubble canopy, or advanced engines and your calling me high??? really dude learn your fucking history first want a link?? haha Also the p51 wasn't the best piston driven aircraft. I do agree it was a beautiful well built war plane, but define best? One bullet in the engine can bring the plane down, not for the p 47 though.

  • @GKris1989 The best = Top speed, service ceiling, range, maneuverability, fire power, etc., etc. The P-47 was the best ground attack platform but its OVERALL performance was less impressive than the P-51

  • Comment removed

  • @Crimble67 also the p51 d became renown for escorting bombers to Berlin that's it... and this started in 1944. So maybe performance wise the p 51 can be in the argument " Best Fighter Of the War ". Other fighters saw more combat and racked up higher records... but yes over all performance especially at high alt the p 51 was the U.S's best.

  • @Crimble67 The p 51 d and dnt version were the best version of the p51. Only white soldiers flew these versions. The black soldiers flew the c version which had poor visibility could not break 400 mph and only 4 machine guns. I am a aviation enthusiast and actually have read many books and seen many films. So if your willing to argue on youtube know your facts lol. And you don't like being lied to haha our government lies to us all the time.. Still... the U.s is the best country in the world.

  • @GKris1989 You are a liar and probably a marxist. You claim that the P-51 C/B models could not break 400 mph, that is a LIE! I would direct you to a website that lists the performance specs for all the P-51 models and there is very little difference (in most cases NO difference) between the P-51 C/B models and the D model. Visibility is the ONLY main difference. As for being lied to, I guess you point is that since the gubment under Barry Soetoro lies to me I have to be good with it, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @Crimble67 I agree they were nothing special, but they did not have a equal chance to be. These men died and fought for our country and deserve our respect regardless of there records. Grow up stop being bitter and respect all Americans who sacrificed for all of our freedom.

  • @GKris1989 I don't appreciate political correctness nor do appreciate being lied to in order to push an agenda!

  • it's weird he's racially insulting them in the presence of a black officer, and then he salutes him.

  • african americans ....and real americans are white??? we can call white american european american so when you start thinking only indians are americans.

  • i was on imdb and they said that vivica fox was in this movie. was she written out?

  • I have part where they spoke for their rights!

    (search youtube)

The Tuskegee Airmen - Racism & Injustice to cancel the Colored Pilot Project!

  • how the fuck could you possibly not pay attention, in a place like that even today ?

letalone back then, with that bad attitude ?

    lol

  • I'm sorry to say this...But being Black I refuse to watch this movie. It's really sad to me how my people were treated...I was in the US Navy for 8 years. I often wondered and even wrote a letter to Senator Patty Murray here in Washington..I asked here why you did you need to have a college degree in order to fly a fighter plane...No one in the Navy could tell me why and ever pilot i spoke to told me "There college degree taught them nothing when it came to flying the plane" Racism Period.

  • Not Racism! Its not just the African Americans who need it but all people need one. You think anybody can just sit in the cockpit of a modern fighter and just do it?! NO! and not only that you have to be VERY GOOD WITH MATH AND MULTI TASKING. The F-18 has like a thirty step startup procedure whereas a P-51 has 3! And you also should be proud of what the Tukegee Airmen did! If it weren't for them YOU probably wouldn't have been allowed to JOIN! that said thanks for serving

  • @OMAHA2231 to take off an F/A-18 is easy. to align and augment the aeronautics/nav systems is difficult. You don't even need a key...lol

  • @OMAHA2231 We need to get away from the word "African American," they are black and there is nothing wrong with calling them black.

  • @OMAHA2231 they would be cool to interview for a history project ... why didnt i think of it before

  • Black strength in the face of Jim Crow

  • Absolutely well said bro, Lewis Hamilton, The Williams sisters, (Tiger Woods)? Barack Obama its amazing.

That despite industrial strength racism many of us become successful in areas allegedly exclusively reserved, for the white man.
