I love this version, except I personally HATE the vocals during the chorus, it's annoying. The verse sounds great though, I love the vocal style here, it sounds almost pathetic. On the album, I think PDA is the only song where he sounds like Ian Curtis, and I think this version sounds more emotional.
WOW! This version is so different! Paul's voice is so different, it's crazy. You can really tell how far they've come. I have to say, inner fangirl coming out, when Paul sing's "sleep tight, grim right" I think its adorable! I can't fight the awe that escapes from my mouth, LOL.
Hey thanks so much for putting this up, love love love this version, I've never heard it! As an Interpol addict I love finding new versions of songs! :)
This song is actually one of the first three Interpol songs ever written. Get The Girls being the first, Roland being the second, and this being third. Precipitate was the fourth and then Cutthroat. Cubed/Mascara was also written before TOTBL (I think), and is now being released as a instrumental bonus track on the Japan Edition of 'Interpol' called "Gavilan". It sucks that it's an instrumental though, because I thought that the lyrics were the best part of the song... ugh. :(
@OSV2536 I was just guessing that they were also written pretty close to that time, since the band had only been formed for a couple of years. Then again with songs like 'Fly as you Might' (which was released under Paul's pseudonym) Paul had written them years before Interpol. So you probably have a point. Thanks! :)
I never saw you put these up. I'm so happy you did, I seemed to let myself get distracted from doing so. Thank you for doing this and helping to spread these songs, you're awesome. :]
actually it says "But you're so cute when you're frustrated, dear, Yeah, you're so cute when you're sedated, oh dear" in the original but it repeats frustrated in this older version.
Dat Chorus effect on the guitars. Best version

The version they performed during Eurockennes 2005, with the improv intro, is the very very best!
Close second :)

This version always make me smile and tap my foot. People ask me,
"What the hell are you smiling about?", when I have my headphones in and they can't hear what I'm hearing.
"Interpol," I answer.
"Who?" they ask.
I then shake my head and smile along.
