You could put a flap of ducttape on the back of the plate to make it easier to pick up without smooshing your pic, just take a long piece, fold it in half n stick it together part way down n stick the rest on the plate like _^_ to make a little handle :)

Use Gloss Paper to paint on.. Light colours go down first.. Cheap paint is all you need..

what kind of paint should i use? i bought some glossy spray paints but when I try the "lift" technique, it just smears puddles of paint around instead of creating good texture...i can't find where to get the paint i need and what kind of paint that is.

If it's spearing, you using too much paint. you only need enough to put a layer over the other paint. the less paint the more detailed it gets, but get to thin and your paint will dry before you can pull it. it just takes practice. I use Krylon, but i hate the new nozzle.

I used to do a lot of stuff similar to this years ago using masking tape and newspaper to mask large areas. You can make some very Esher like designs. Funnily if I 'made a mistake' and allowed the newspaper to touch the paint it would pull the top layer off and I'd think I'd ruined it!!! I NOW realise that it was not a mistake at all but a technique that I could have exploited! Damm well wish I'd realised that THEN :)

to barrote, use a lot of paint, especially the layers you want to show through really well- just coat it on THICK. and to remove paint, use a magazine sheet instead of newspaper. you'll get a better effect with those tips. hope it helps=] question to anyon who does this, i've been doing this for about a month and dont have a mask because i do it outside. im kind of worried tho and think i need one. which ones are good? thanks in advance=]

It seems like the most popular respirator is by far one made by 3M; either one of the 6000 or 7000 series, just remember to get the correct filters for spraypaint fumes.

I dont really know exactly what kind of paper. But i've found that any like thick posterboard is fine because it doesnt absorb as much. I really prefer the glossy stuff myself. I hope that helps.
