Any jazz pianist who doesn't come from ragtime, stride and the blues/boogie-woogie department has missed the point of what jazz piano is.

I like modern pianists like Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Michel Camilo, but my real love are the great striders: Oscar, Art Tatum, Fats Waller. I always prefer this.
