OK... i downloaded it too and the same thing happens for me. You need to update to v 1.08, then you need to update to version 1.14, and then you need to update 1.16....phew. its kept me up all night. im not even done....

I think I've got the same as Kyle. Any advice? I've always wanted to get this game since I first heard of it, and I don't want my computer falling flat on its overly-complex ass and screwing the pooch for my game, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
How do you people keep having these problems with Vista? I've had it forever now and I never have problems with any of my games, except for the occasional crash but that happened when I had XP too.
how did you even get it too work in the first place? Whenever I open mine it just says it is not responding vista is checking for a problem to the solution. Then it quits out. I am installing 1.14 update. But is there anything else? I have ultimate x32 bit thank you!!
Umm....The extra high HDR at the end i cant explain, but the sun looked like it was behind the upper part of a tree, so as you changed your position or view direction, it either became directly visible or obstructed, and set the HDR off.
The one at the end, will end up flashing across the screen as well. It will also go very dark and then come back. The flicker will happen a lot even if I don't look at the sun.
When I run the game in XP HDR behaves exactly how I expect it to and does not have these issues.
Some think it is SLI in ArmA that is doing it. Many others have this problem over at the BI forums.
i just get a black screen on the menu but i got sound,,im on vista 64 with a phenom 950 black and hd 4890 black dition

how the hell do you even get ArmA to work on vista, i can download it and when i join the game it goes to the main menu and its all black in frizzy.

right click icon>properties>run XP service pack 2 compatibility mode>apply>ok.
you may also want to run the app as an administrator which is also done in properties

Hey are you using a desktop? and remember it needs 6 gb ram recomended. if you are using a laptop thats the problem.

What I noticed is that the flickering stops when I set ArmA in SLI to use SLI 8x Anti Aliasing. The problem is that the frames drop too. Any idea?

Same happening here, using 8800GTX SLi configuration. Any idea on how to fix this?

If it's a dual graphics card you are running, turn one off. Arma is not programmed for SLi or Crossfire.
To get round this, rename Arma.exe to Fear.exe or AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe The flicker and white/blackout happens but not as often.
Other than that I don't know. It's an ace game when it works honest!
