  • haha roger underestimated lopez at the beginning and decided to punish him in the next 3 sets :P

  • 0:05, Lopez says "are you ok Roger?"

  • what if... federer was a lefty O_O

  • GOD LIKE.

  • I love how people complain about Fed's 'easy slams'....

    Lopez, Roddick, Davydenko, Djokovic.

That's a tough draw!! Roddick and Djokovic especially on top form at the time!

  • This is the whole reason why you don't go up at the net on Federer :P

  • Federer in the good ol' days when he was basically invincible. How I wish he could play like he did in his prime again.

  • @QuintusMusicVideo Yeah, how dare he beat down a player so thoroughly when he started off so well! >:/

  • nobody could beat this Federer !

  • Wofff

    1:00

  • Wofff

    4:26

  • I lost a set 1:6 today :((((((((((

  • 0:10 Lopez is like "You okay buddy?". Roger is like "Piss off"

  • Federer even kept his eye on the ball when he was feeding it into the crowd when he won. Now thats peRFection.

  • Lopez started out on fire as in part 1. By the third set his intensity diminished. That's attributed to Federer's fitness training when he plays his best. Typical playing Federer Lopez played his brains out yet still lost 2 sets. Very demoralizing playing against Federer. That's his intangible quality.

  • 3:50

    Nadalesque grinding and counter-punching.

  • I he could still play like that in 2009 and 10 he'd have 7 opens under his belt!!

  • @roselandalvin you are right - he was perfection here- harder to watch now when I see the player he was here! Time is cruel - It's not Djokovic, Murray etc. or the power game- it's what all great ones must face-Getting older and not being as quick, flexible and able to transfer what you see in your head to the racquet -Similar to what old great boxers experience-He used to play at this level 80-95 % of the time-Now he's lucky to get 40%-Not good enough to consistently beat top 5 players

  • that guy in the black is pretty good- What happenend to him and who is he?? I haven't seen anyone play tennis like that in 3 years

  • federer's so good at serve-and-volleying...must be so annoying to play against lol

  • This was my favorite match of the 2007 US open

  • @Utopia569 I remember watching this at the time and marvelling at Federer- I've watched so many of his matches -[before and after this] I don't think he's ever played better, more crisp tennis, with so much touch, accuracy and agility - And Lopez was in a high personal zone throughout that match- If he had stayed at this level he would have 21 majors [2 more Aussies-1 US and 2 more Wimbledons] and locking up #22 this weekend - Time ravages all the great ones!

  • lopez has always had a beautiful form -a nice fluid style - His backhand is a beautiful looking shot -- However Nobody could have beaten federer on this day He wa returning very well and his movement and backhand were exceptional ---- Federer I believe at his peak - striking the ball at will!

  • 0:40-0:44 Federer keeps glancing

I bet he's thinking "What if he makes a mockery of me and taps it half way down the line?"

at 0:43 he thinks he has a chance and gets in the ready postition LOL

  • Comment removed

  • federer INCREASED his level of performance...as and when required.

that was the case in this match..

  • way federer used to strike the ball -forehand and backhand... those were the days when he was freewheeling on both sides and the ball stayed in and cleared the net- Today it's more hit and miss - recently more miss

  • Poor Lopez...plays one of the best matches of his career but Fed just says nope, I'm gonna own u. gg sir.

  • 0:40 imagine federer doing the moonwalk.....

    hahahhaahha

  • Did anyone see that footwork at 3:28? Oh my gosh that recovery is so amazing....

  • I wonder how Federer manages to read the direction of the pass so well. Against most players, he'd sit on top of the attempted pass and cut it off seemingly hours before his opponent makes contact.

  • 30 straight points on the serve. ridiculous

  • Lopez started extremely well, but then federer simply increased his tennis level to reach perfection. Those kinds of semi-passing shots in the baseline are just awesome. Ridiculous tennis from the world number one.

  • The commentator was joking, he said 8 before the screen popped up.

  • he wasnt kidding

the commemtaters have access to stats that the on court staticians create

  • anyone notice Lopez said 'you okay roger' at 0:10 and federr didnt hear, lol

  • @arps812 i'm pretty sure that was the chair umpire.

  • Federer showing a serve and volleyer how to serve and volley.

  • that fall looked painful

  • 0:05 hahahahaha

  • wickedmario007 might have been being sarcastic as well lol

  • ya he was being sarcastic

  • the commentator was ashamed and dumbstruck when he said federer has horoundous number of errors today and screen displayed 8 errors....lol

  • Think he was being sarcastic the way he said it.

  • go to the dictionary and search for the word SARCASM.

  • well that isn't my impression. the commentators are just joking. they know the stats beforehand.

  • Dude he was kidding lol. he said "total of 8" even before the numbers came up so he knew beforehand.

  • He was being sarcastic.

  • retard alert

  • lol...m not a retard...i was actually drunk wen i saw the video....jajaja..i sware

  • rightttt retard

  • As an aside... Lopez is the best looking man on the tour .. He will tell you this

  • I remember watching this live Probably Fed at his absolute best the back hand was spot on the side to side movement impeccable .. he has let errrors creep into his game and his movememt will never be this good again .. Just wear, tear, age and that ever increasing self doubt is now part of his game .. We will never see his like again

  • Plus, Nadal has that knee injury/tendinitis and going five sets on clay is not good on the knee. OUCH!! haha

  • its the genius that is over, he's just old (for modern tennis standards), it happens, it will happen with nadal and all great future champions

  • The thing is though Federer has achieved so much more than Nadal ever will. Nadal is young, but the difference is Federer hasn't has put as much strain as his body as Nadal is. It's a mental thing. Just think, the Wimbledon final was five sets and the Australian Open final was five sets...if Federer had kept it together mentally, it could have won those matches, but it was Nadal who took the initative.

  • wasnt the ball out on 2:00 ?

  • no. right on the line

  • 34 winners/ 8 unforced errors. You barely see federer get an equal number of winners and unforced errors nowadays. I think we need to face that the genius is over. Kind of.

  • did i hear lopez asking if federer was ok after he fell? if so what a nice guy

  • I think that was the umpire

  • Proven Wrong:) fifth us open it is

  • Nadal doesn't have a chance of winning a major on hardcourt especially when you consider how incredibly loopy his forehands are. Opponents will pick those shots off and easily overpower him. That's why Nadal has never won a hardcourt major. His game really only works on clay.

  • lol this never ends, Incorrect, im a fed fan but nadal has already one a hard court grandslam-The Aussie Open.

  • True, I wrote my comment two months ago before he won the Australian Open, his only hard court major.

  • uh yeh hes only got 1, 1 is more than zero, which is how many federers got on clay

  • not anymore douche

  • but the thing about his loopy forehand is that he puts so much topspin that if he hit it deep enough he would put the other guys in deep sh*t, he would keep the opponent far away the baseline and put them in defense

  • Lopez spends too much time in front of the mirror fixing his hair instead of working on that backhand

  • Yeah, he needs to stop being so gay. I was at this match.

  • I do love how classy Federer is.

  • 1.38 is insane

  • I've noticed that people try to slice against Roger on the faster courts: plexipave at the Australian, the fast hard courts of the Americas and the Masters events in Madrid and Paris as well as the carpets of Basel and Shanghai. That's not the way. Slicing against him only works on grass, where the slice acts like a knife and changes spins or on clay where it skids. Rafa noticed this and that's why he beats Roger on clay and WILL beat him at Wimbledon, that is, if Roger gets to the final.

  • This is the best serve and volley tennis Roger has ever played. If its working against a left hander like Lopez, why doesnt he try it more often against Nadal on clay?

  • This is the best serve and volley tennis Roger has ever played. If its working against a left hander like Lopez, why doesnt he try it more often against Nadal on clay?

  • Feli reminds a little bit of a left-handed Tim Henman/Goran Ivanisevic, he hits decent groundstrokes from the baseline but his main intent is to attack the net and force his opponents to make brilliant passing shots, which unluckily, Rogey was able to do.

  • It's too bad he does not totally COMMIT to it like Henman and Goran. He would win many more matches on fast surfaces. He is the the best volleyer out there and maybe the best athlete.

  • Why should a great net player EVER stay back when he has the chance to get to net? Lopez lost sight of what was working because he got down when Roger hit a some great passing shots. He broke down mentally as he did recently at Dubai. Still, I hope he gets it right and we can see what is ALWAYS the best tennis match, which is a guy constantly attacking the net versus a baseliner. Of course, Roger is good at both but, in the end, he is a baseliner. SAMPRAS WAS MUCH BETTER on fast surfaces.

  • Lopez at the top of his game is better thsn any other player including Roger. The difference is Roger does not get down on himself as much. If you watch the entire first set of this match you will see Lopez achieve a level unseen since Sampras, Rafter, Edberg or Mcenroe. I never saw Laver so I cannot include him. Lopez is the best tennis ATHLETE but unlike Sampras and the others, he gets down when things are not going his way. When he stops that... HE HAS A MAJOR.

  • hahaha, you actually think that lopez at the top of his game is better than roger at the top of his game? get your head out of the gutter. roger would triple bagel lopez at the top of his game

  • LOL... Is that why an old man like Sampras can still beat Roger when he serves well and CONSISTENTLY comes to the net? Sorry, but my head is just fine, it is Lopez's head that self-destructs all the time. If Lopez had Roger's mental toughness, he would be the better player. He is a much better athlete. But, since Roger is more mentally tough and that is the biggest advantage on court with the pros, I will unforunately have to agree with you. However, if Lopez gets his head together: MAJOR TITLE!

  • if you are talking about sampras beating federer in one of their exhibition matches then that doesn't really count. people payed a lot of money to see those matches so roger allowed for a good, long match.

  • itzjoeymac,if you're big fan of Lopez, no problem. but you know, Federer is THE number one, so he's best!:) Lopez is a good player, but saying that at the top of his game he's better than any other player? come on! it means that he's never at the top of his game, he never wins a master or a grand slam!

  • LOL... just because Lopez has a higher UPSIDE does not mean he is going to win. I agree that Roger is the best ALL-AROUND but Lopez has reached levels as high or higher than anyone on the tour EVER. Sadly, he cannot maintain it. You are absolutely right that he has never played at the top of his game THROUGH A WHOLE MAJOR TOURNEY, but to say he is NEVER at the top of his game is childish.

  • The problem for Lopez is that horrendous topspin one-handed backhand. It looks so uncomfortable and it is quite weak compared to other top pros. Either he should just stick with the slice, come into the net more, or just revamp that backhand. I agree that Lopez can play amazing when he is on, but I don't agree that he is the best when on. Federer's max level is quite extraodinary if you have seen it, however I've never seen him hold that top power for more than a set.

  • I have seen Fed at EVERY LEVEL he has but I've never seen him look as good as Lopez in the first set of this match. He should dedicate to the net as he did for the first two sets here, he will be much better. However, Fed's mental game is so much stronger. That is what is mostly missing from Lopez. If he gets his head together and plays like, say, Rafter, (who I believe, like Sampras as well, was better than Fed at top level) He will win a big one.

  • orite sampras was better so explain to me why he lost to teenage federer at wimbledon.

and im not gonna respond to the laughable RAFTER claim, and im an aussie!

  • Ok... explain to me how a 40 yr old Sampras BEAT FEDERER a year ago? lol... BTW, Rafter was just as good as Fed on fast surfaces. Until Nadal came around, there really was no true comp for Fed. If he had peaked when Sampras, Agassi, Rafter and more were at the top... He'd never have won so many majors. Best 'all around player'? Federer... Best player? SAMPRAS.

  • oh please, an exhibition match? its called putting on a show for the fans. roger wasnt gonna humiliate pete by bageling him. read your question again and you'll see it really is illogical to think a 40 year old 5 year retired sampras truly "beat" roger federer.

sampras is the best server ever. not like im saying sampras sucks. i just think federers a bit better, not saying hes WAY better, its close.

  • oh you mean the same sampras that was horrendous on clay

    oh that one

  • I kinda agree...

i watched him a couple of times

and realized why he is so low in the rankings

    thats kind why...

  • Lopez is getting older. His defense isn't that good -- he just needs to play bombs-away. He'll get passed a fair bit, but it's better percentage tennis for him. Also, it may allow him to play more confidently/with better focus.

  • This was one the best matches in years. It has been too long since a serve and volley guy challenged a top baseliner (though SAMPRAS beat Federer not too long ago). If Lopez will devote himself to the net and not allow a few passes to discourage him he can win Wimbledon or the US. McEnroe, Rafter, Becker, Edberg, Ivanesivic and ULTIMATELY Sampras NEVER allowed any passing shots to stop them from coming in. Lopez will win a major if he follows their example.

  • No..Dominating is making 10 GS Finals in a row, winning 12 Titles, finishin No.1 for the fourth consecutive year, winning four consecutives Laureus Titles, being compared to Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras and Lendl...Now thats domination, wouldn't you say?

  • wow couldn't have said it better my self, but and he's not being compared to borg any more rogers got 12 grand slams, and now he's aiming for the best one who has 14, and rogers only age 26

  • roger was almost impossible to top at the usopen..even rafa I think would have lost to him..

  • tsonga and novak are dominating now i hope roger comes back!

  • winning one tournament is not dominating

  • I really like Lopez and Verdasco very much!

They both have a great gameplay and should deserve a better ranking, but their mental skillness to be focused on the match point by point is still pretty poor...

By the way: of course I agree, Roger's shots are unbelievable!

  • Verdasco is rediculously talented isnt he? I could watch his forehand all day long. Excellent player who deserves more than just one career title! Lopez is also excellent, his serve especially, really look forward to watchin em both play! both of them are underachieving!!

  • @uovadoro exactly verdasco plays like nadal slightly but with better volley and lopez has style from federer but i think lopez better than verdasco much.

  • I have never seen him fall over

  • The US Open probably now has the fastest and slickest surface of any of the majors -- even Roger can be wrong-footed.

  • The shots Roger makes are phenomenal. His strategy is outstanding. He sees the guy's body move ever so slightly to the left and knows he's going to swing back over to the right, so Rog sends the shot flying to his left... knowing there's little chance the guy can change momentum and get the ball, even though he's practically next to it.

    Roger is lovely!

  • i dont like some bits where they just give up on shots but awesome match!

  • Yeah Lopez has a lot of talent but can't seem to put all the pieces together, a lot like Verdasco. I really enjoy watching them play.

  • Super match. Lopez is a fantastic player! Guess another of those perennial underachievers.
