You could tell that Jenny was in to Nate way back from in Season 1 and I think that with Nate it was a harder situation because he was already dealing with the Blair\Serena triangle that even though he thought she was cute he wasn't going to pursue anything because he was still trying to figure things out with Blair and Serena. Nate and Vanessa were the ones that were rushed, they met for the first time in one episode and then they're going out, kissing and taking the SAT's together.

From one day to another, he goes to Jenny. on the other side, NV spend a whole day getting to know eachother and nate had in mind a flirt, not a longterm rship, so he kissed her. After that, V was there, helping him with the mess with his parents and trying to help with catherine- but the essential is that she was there. Now the relationship should be stronger. I think for now its friendship.

Er...Jenny and Nate have an actual friendship from Season 1 where they talked about real things! Vanessa was thrown onto Nate's radar simply because they wanted to keep Jessica (God bless her!) around. They literally met and hooked up in one episode and then sort dated before randomly breaking up...and then when they tried again, he couldn't say no to Catherine. Then V screwed him over by betraying him.

NJ always had a connection and Taylor/Chace's chemistry can't be wasted.
