  • The Only black person in the show >. >

  • Right, it's a tool. The reason we live now in houses rather than caves and can eat bears rather than the other way around is because of TOOLS.

  • WHAT DOES INDOLENT MEAN???

FIND OUT IN PART 2: THE STUNNING CONCLUSION

  • "A calculator is a tool, not a problem solver."

Um, excuse me, hi. I write code for a living. I'll be the first person to tell you that the entire point of a calculator, or any other computer, is to delegate menial tasks like MATH to the MACHINE so that you can spend your time worrying about more important things. Calculators solve all my problems, especially the problem of where my paycheck comes from. Thanks.

  • Anyways this is hella better than the 2002 version.

  • "Look! This one has a special button for percent!" "Welcome to the future, Joe."

Jesus, really? Nowadays TI-89s are fucking old-school ...

  • dat excited about a calculator

  • 4:50 bow ties are cool

  • I LOVE YOU FOR POSTING THIS

  • i mean 2:14

  • wishbone:ellen!!!!!!!!!! and to think i trusted you

    me:xddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd

    at 2:15

  • Can any wone tell me what season this is? :)

  • wait til he learns of the graphing calculator that we have in the future. he'll shit his pants

  • David you nerd, TWO calculators?!?!

  • Observe, kids: all you need to make your own time machine is to cement half a kerosine heater and the seat from a luxury high chair to your winter sled.

  • Why is Ellen eating a ginger snap for dogs?

  • He got a C- on a math test!?! I woulda been hella proud!

  • @TweakTheRapper My dad used to get pissy when I got a B on my tests ...

And then he used to hit me ... which didn't really help my grade much to be honest ...

  • Out of curiosity who did the voice of Wishbone the dog when this show was on.

  • Wishbone, the original timelord

  • Wishbone is so cute! :D

  • Oh, man, did I ever feel for Joe when I saw this the first time. I have dyscalculia, which means I suck at math. Worse, I was taught how to use a calculator, and then I wasn't allowed to use it!

It's true that a calculator doesn't always solve your problems, but it really can help, once you get used to it.

  • I remember seeing this so long ago....how time changes >.<

  • God those kids r sooo young!!

  • Am I the only one who read this on their own time. Not required by school.

  • @LongArmProductions Yeah I think I was nearing the end of college when I decided to check out The Time Machine of my own accord.

  • @TheBookWorm1718 I was in the 6th grade.

  • Even though this version has a talking dog, it's STILL closer to the book than the 2002 movie version. xD

  • Damn, I remember watching this and thinking that Joe looked so old.

  • where's KOCE?

  • fuckin morlocks made me afraid to go in the basement

  • I'd buy these on DVD. oh my god I know most of these people from subsequent work. ROFL And also, this was one of my favorite things to watch coming home from school.

  • this episode scared the shit out of me when I was little

  • Hehe, hate to break it to ya, Joe, but not even a calculator will help you in college, that's for sure.

  • This episode is really scary, scariest movie of all, those monkeys creep me out...

  • I named my first dog "Wishbone" because of this show

  • Anyone in this episode who says "A calculator is a tool, not a problem solver" has clearly never had a math class beyond 6th grade.

  • It's Back to the Future except it's about a book about time travel and it's a dog who plays a scientist. Go, Wishbone!

  • wishbone you must come with me to the future your pups their in trouble!!!!

  • Best. Episode. Period!!!!

  • i remember watching this on pbs when i was little

  • This episode made me afraid of the dark as a kid! Same with the slime monster episode of Ghostwriter!

  • @Daghead

Ditto on the slimemonster. Actually, come to think of it, it made me afraid of toilets. Didn't it come out of the toilet at one point? lol

  • @90sproject When did this come on cause it don't look like it was on in 1995-1999 or so plese reply back to this question

  • @gidgetlover1 The original air dates of the Wishbone series was from October 9, 1995 – August 31, 2001. This one in particular I do not know the original air date.

  • @90sProject and that's weird how this show ended just weeks before 911.

  • @gidgetlover1 most likely it was in Dec of 1995 the IMDb shows some air dates

  • That Mom is soooo ... ummm... suburban!

  • There are still really good reading positive kids shows out there, including Martha Speaks, Word Girl, Between the Lions, etc... Sesame Street, although not the Henson fantasia of my youth, remains a sound educational format for reading, early math and basic critical thinking.I also kind of like a new show named 'Mad About', but it may be for somewhat older kids.

  • It was so great that shows like Wishbone and Arthur encouraged kids to read, read, read... I feel like that's lost on kids today.

  • @antebellum Totally, they are not going to do a show like this today, they can't have anything that'll make the kids actually think or want to turn their attention to books. It seems instead that TV, including children's programming, has taken such a turn that it serves a purpose now to shut people up and turn off the minds and keep them glued to the couch. Of course there have always been people like that but these days it seems to be much worse.

  • WHO talks about their grades in front of their friends!!

  • If my mum reacted that way for c-'s, I would never have been allowed to leave the house.

    Ellen is a pushy bitch!

  • @SNICKERFACED C- means you did not try very hard

  • @AndForAMoment I guess it must be different grading criteria in America then. C's are pretty average here (you know, with B being good, A great, F fail, and U being why-did-you-even-bother??)

  • This gives me a child-like feeling of awe. It's a clever adaption. A white boy who wants to try out for basket ball... now, that's a fantasy. A better premise would have been a cool trip or 'summer school'? Pity they never had a 'Dogs of War'? Wishbone as Christopher Walken.

  • @granddad2002

    LOL

  • This gives me a child-like feeling of awe. It's a clever adaption. A white boy who wants to try out for basket ball... now, that's a fantasy.

  • This gives me a child-like feeling of awe. It's a clever adaption.

  • i remember thinking joe was so old when i watched this haha

  • It feels so good thinking back to my youth and how much I've grown truly living in a great life in a good time hope this made u guys as happy as it's made me

  • lmao C- .

  • I wish they made a wishbone episode with Bram Stoker's Dracula!

  • me and the dog wishbone seem to have alot in common. we have big imaginations and love the classic books X3

  • This was the cutest show ever!!!

  • Im n tha 1st grad. Kan sumone hlp me wit fraktions?

  • i cant believe thats the name of the episode. or that this show is this awesome

  • Proof that Wishbone is a Time Lord!!!

  • @VulcanTrekkie45 that would be so cool if he was a timelord.

  • @VulcanTrekkie45 so K-9 was once Wishbone

  • You know, people say time travel is impossible, but on the other hand, that's what they used to think about mechanical flight.

  • @Garrettk41 well star trek is on the verge of becoming reality, i'd say in a couple hundred years starships will be flying the galaxy, time travel too.

  • Hey, why not? Furthermore, this story could have become a reality long before now, if it weren't for one fact: it wasn't written by Jules Verne.

  • Time machine, but not the invisible man?! Wishbone would have made a GREAT kemp!

  • Awww....Wishbone is just too cute when he uses a British accent!!!!

  • When i was in high school, many students had graphing calculators. Math class required a scientific calculator

  • I love Wishbone. I was they would countine with the show.

  • i love wishbone and he is smart

  • I used to love Wishbone as a child!!!

  • Yeah.. I think calculators were allowed. But you always have to show your work.

  • Ugh, when they showed David's calculator that he gave to Joe, I just kept looking at my Casio with all its big buttons...

  • I love Wishbone! It is soooo cool!

  • It is sooooooooooooo not like Back to the Future, but it's okay.

  • "wow, this one has a special button for percent!"

wow I feel funny watching this, there's a TI-83 on my desk ...xD

  • mr. smart at math dog

  • This is truly brilliant.

  • I watched wishbone when I was so young, I really thought Joe was a cool dude, and its shocking to see him so young...I just remember him being so much older than me...hahaha.

  • I would come from school just in time, to catch it on. Glad to see it on YouTube, I'm 23 now, and I still enjoy it,lol.

  • I wish HG Wells could have seen this. Then again, who says he didn't? (Wink, wink)

  • Haha! I was NEVER allowed to use calculators in high school, much less college calculus. I really only use calculators in chemistry.

  • Does anyone else notice that the soundtrack of this episode is very similar to the Back to the Future trilogy soundtrack?

  • OMG this episode always scared me when was little. daaaaaaaaaaang one of my favs <33333

  • "ELLEN, AND TO THINK I TRUSTED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    Because Ellen loves dog treats

  • @BabblingBree >> That part always made me laugh.

  • Yay! Thank you for posting this! I recorded this off of the TV when I was a kid and watched this episode almost every day after school. I even attempted to read the book but I was way to young to understand it at the time!

  • Joe could use one of those advanced scientic calculators that can do fractions like the one I have. The one David gave Joe is just a regular caculator. Of course, you stil need to understand how to do math when no calculator is available

  • Dude...I LOVE YOU! Thanks for all these AMAZING uploads!

  • perfect quality, thanks for uploading. This made me feel like a kid again.
