@xikanpower the yellow card is for time delay, so to indicate this to the score bench the card is held in front of the wrist (indicating a wristwatch or time). The red card is for misconduct.

The whole situation could have been avoided if the player was allowed sand time. The ref should be their as a "referee" not as a controller of the game, these athletes know how to play the game.

I wonder what happened. Was there a protest? Is that the court controller in yellow?

In Beach, a yellow card is a warning; no point for the other team. Reckermann was given a delay penalty; taking too long, in the referee's opinion to clean his sunglasses. The time in between rallies is supposed to be 12 seconds. A red card is a point for the opposing team.

You can see the player gesture that he wants to clean his glasses, but the gesture was so quick, I'm willing to be the official didn't see it.

I disagree with the sportscasters. The referee is obviously of a high level, and knows what he is doing. Referees need to be treated with the utmost respect no matter what the call is. I agree with the ref. Plus, the player threatening the referee should result in that player being suspended, fined, or maybe even thrown out of the league.

The official was in the right on this situation. Just because you get hit in the face doesn't mean you take your sweet time cleaning your glasses. The official was most likely hurrying him back on the court to prevent a "Delay of Game" which warrants either a forceful timeout or a sanction (yellow card; at the player's team discretion which to choose). The official was well within his rights as he persisted to further penalize the player's actions.

@Frafty In beach volleyball there is a caution that the player could have sand or sunscreen in his eyes or other places, so when a player gets domed like that and he is fixing his glasses and sorts like that the referee is suppose to give him time not give him a yellow card and red card could have been avoided but the reff's call was bull crap and if anybody else was in the situation would do the same thing and fight with him.

The yellow was for a time delay ... by the book the player should have asked the referee if he could go and wipe his glasses / face, and would have been permitted to do so. But he didn't, he just walked off. By the same token, the ref could have got a clarification and not issued a card. The Red is definitely correct after the comments made. The Player really blowing up is renowned for it on the tour, so sometimes reputations can precede you :)

I commented this game for the world feed - the ref had a great game - the german players were totally out of order with their behaviour and threats to the ref. However it was funny to watch a player telling a ref "I VILL DESTROY YOUR CAREER!

You guys really dont know what really happened. This clip does not show the entire situation, its a cut version and really puts the referee in a bad position here.

I was there and saw and heard everything.

After getting the ball in his head Reckermann cleaned his glases for approx 30 sec. The referee whistled and asked hi to hurry up, you only have 12 sec between the balls, not 30 or 60 sec. Reckermann got upset and wanted to discuss with the referee, for the sole purpose to stal the game

The referee asked him to not approach him and that he would sanction him with a delay warning if he did. Reckermann ignored that and approached the referee to continue the discussion. He got a yellow card for delay and freaked out and said to the referee "You are not the most importand person here". That is insulting and should have been sanctioned with a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Meanwhile, Brink is getting more and more upset and walks around and curses in german directly to the referee. The referee warns him and asks him to use the official language. Brink continues and receives a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. You did not see this in this video since it was a cut version. After the yellow card the players got a little calm and played one ball. You dont see this either since it was a cut version.

After this ball, Brink continues to curse to the referee in german, even though he was warned first verbally, then with a yellow card and then verbally again. He then recieved a red card for rude conduct. After that he asked for a medical time out for the sole purpose to destroy the game for the referee. He did not need a medical timeout, he did not need medical assistance and if you listen good you here Brink tell the referee that he doesnt have to answer him on what kind of assistance he needs

The player have to answer on if he needs assistance or not and what kind of medical assistance he needs. Brink didnt recieved any assistance, he just sat in his chair for five minutes, was grumpy and discussed with the referee delegate.

The referee did everything by the book and he could have been stricter.

He should be sanctioned by the FIVB for his behaviour, it should not be acceptable
