@Austeenob Sports need them. This guy maybe made a mistake, but it does not mean fererees are always the bad guys. Some players are very rude and people do not pay to see that kind of show!!
@xikanpower the yellow card is for time delay, so to indicate this to the score bench the card is held in front of the wrist (indicating a wristwatch or time). The red card is for misconduct.
The whole situation could have been avoided if the player was allowed sand time. The ref should be their as a "referee" not as a controller of the game, these athletes know how to play the game.
I wonder what happened. Was there a protest? Is that the court controller in yellow?
The refs maybe 6 foot tall. They're like, 6"8. Why didn't one of them kick his ass...?
Also, if you notice, Refs don't make shit, really. They have to have an outlet that makes them look big and bad. IIIIIII SAAYYYYY someone needs to burn his house down. Just a suggestion.
@sexything1002 the yellow card was because he needed too long for cleaning his sunglasses (stupid decision by the referee), and then the red card for arguing too much (also stupid, but consequent)
@SNAFUxSniper But in this instance it wasn't a call that he was arguing; he was fixing his glasses. The ref shouldn't have been so arrogant in the first place.
Secondly, it's a delay warning. Not a penalty, so stop bitching and get back on the court. As an official, it's really all about the player's attitude. We make mistakes, it's common, however, your reaction, as a player, is what ultimately casts our decisions. Had he gone to the R1 to REQUEST whipping off his glasses, then that would've been fine. Instead, he gestures discreetly (which I doubt the R1 saw), and walks off the court. Being 30 feet away and not knowing wtf is going on, Id delay 2.
In Beach, a yellow card is a warning; no point for the other team. Reckermann was given a delay penalty; taking too long, in the referee's opinion to clean his sunglasses. The time in between rallies is supposed to be 12 seconds. A red card is a point for the opposing team.
since you get the red card...the best thing you can you can do is shot the ref's face with sand..that stupid ref thinks he has all the power to decide...he has no consideration.
I get it - players can take some time to clean their glasses. I'm betting the official didn't know he got hit in the face, and since he's taking his sweet time to clean his glasses, he issued a delay sanction. Then after that, it escalated because of what seems to be a simple misconception.
You can see the player gesture that he wants to clean his glasses, but the gesture was so quick, I'm willing to be the official didn't see it.
I say when encountering one, wait till you build a sizable lead, maybe to set point or something, get the ball to serve, and, er, have some "bad aim" toward his area. The ref wouldn't think you would throw away a point just to get back at him, would he? XD
@Ttall11 thats why the refs should just stfu sometimes. Hurrying a person after being packed in the face? especially in a professional game they should be able to clear their face without being rushed.
I disagree with the sportscasters. The referee is obviously of a high level, and knows what he is doing. Referees need to be treated with the utmost respect no matter what the call is. I agree with the ref. Plus, the player threatening the referee should result in that player being suspended, fined, or maybe even thrown out of the league.
@WeedTuber420 you have to at least do it very nicely and he may consider what you say. It looks very bad on the refs part if he goes back on a call or goes easy on a player after they aggressively argue the call.
Not even man, those guys are the biggest dicks ever, either that or pushovers. Its not worth argueing about just side out the next play and the bad call didnt mean anything anyway?
@WeedTuber420 not true. you CAN win. maybe not in the match, but you know FOR SURE that after the match this ref would have got a strip torn out of him. he wont be reffing at this level in the near future. he made a VERY POOR call and he needed to hear it. if the player wouldnt have made a big deal, chances are no one would have known or cared.
refs are apart of the game. it doesnt matter what the ref calls, if you honestly bitch about a play at all in volleyball when you know you can just side out the next point and then it doesnt matter anyway...
and in any other sport its the same thing, refs are apart of the game, bad calls or good calls. You play with the cards youre dealt with you shouldnt let a ref affect the game at all.
@WeedTuber420 what im saying is that you need to make the ref realize he made a bad call. im not one for turning over and taking it up the rear. i realize that it wont make the ref take the call back. but the ref is there for you, not the crowd or tv... he/she is there for you and you need to let the ref know if they are doing a good or bad job. when everyone including the crowd knows that its a bad call, you need to call the ref out on it. especially if they dont realize it.
@WeedTuber420 also, you shouldnt let a ref affect your game. i disagree, sure you can side out the next point, but what if you lost the game 27-25? all of a sudden that one point that the ref screwed up on cost you your tournament. the refs play a MAJOR part in the game and affect you a lot.
Then you shoulda dug a ball or sided out at 15-14 instead of getting housed. I dont look for excuses, if a ref blows a call at game point, oh well guess what I shoulda put the ball away 8 points ago instead of tipping to the lib. anyway i really dont care youre right im wrong i dont want to hear your justification for letting a ref affect a match.
The official was in the right on this situation. Just because you get hit in the face doesn't mean you take your sweet time cleaning your glasses. The official was most likely hurrying him back on the court to prevent a "Delay of Game" which warrants either a forceful timeout or a sanction (yellow card; at the player's team discretion which to choose). The official was well within his rights as he persisted to further penalize the player's actions.
@Frafty actually your wrong. the player can take his time to clean his sunglasses or e.g. tie his shoe laces (normal volleyball). No reason for a yellow card.
@Frafty In beach volleyball there is a caution that the player could have sand or sunscreen in his eyes or other places, so when a player gets domed like that and he is fixing his glasses and sorts like that the referee is suppose to give him time not give him a yellow card and red card could have been avoided but the reff's call was bull crap and if anybody else was in the situation would do the same thing and fight with him.
The yellow was for a time delay ... by the book the player should have asked the referee if he could go and wipe his glasses / face, and would have been permitted to do so. But he didn't, he just walked off. By the same token, the ref could have got a clarification and not issued a card. The Red is definitely correct after the comments made. The Player really blowing up is renowned for it on the tour, so sometimes reputations can precede you :)
for " i will destroy your career" the red card is ok..but the yellow card i cant follow..wasnt so that reckermann took a lot of time to clean his glasses..
I commented this game for the world feed - the ref had a great game - the german players were totally out of order with their behaviour and threats to the ref. However it was funny to watch a player telling a ref "I VILL DESTROY YOUR CAREER!
You guys really dont know what really happened. This clip does not show the entire situation, its a cut version and really puts the referee in a bad position here.
I was there and saw and heard everything.
After getting the ball in his head Reckermann cleaned his glases for approx 30 sec. The referee whistled and asked hi to hurry up, you only have 12 sec between the balls, not 30 or 60 sec. Reckermann got upset and wanted to discuss with the referee, for the sole purpose to stal the game
The referee asked him to not approach him and that he would sanction him with a delay warning if he did. Reckermann ignored that and approached the referee to continue the discussion. He got a yellow card for delay and freaked out and said to the referee "You are not the most importand person here". That is insulting and should have been sanctioned with a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Meanwhile, Brink is getting more and more upset and walks around and curses in german directly to the referee. The referee warns him and asks him to use the official language. Brink continues and receives a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct. You did not see this in this video since it was a cut version. After the yellow card the players got a little calm and played one ball. You dont see this either since it was a cut version.
After this ball, Brink continues to curse to the referee in german, even though he was warned first verbally, then with a yellow card and then verbally again. He then recieved a red card for rude conduct. After that he asked for a medical time out for the sole purpose to destroy the game for the referee. He did not need a medical timeout, he did not need medical assistance and if you listen good you here Brink tell the referee that he doesnt have to answer him on what kind of assistance he needs
The player have to answer on if he needs assistance or not and what kind of medical assistance he needs. Brink didnt recieved any assistance, he just sat in his chair for five minutes, was grumpy and discussed with the referee delegate.
The referee did everything by the book and he could have been stricter.
The german players, especially Brink was a real idiot here, not a hero as some of you say.
He should be sanctioned by the FIVB for his behaviour, it should not be acceptable
Give a man a whistle and suddenly it's all about him. Ref's like this should enjoy the game from the stands instead of screwing it up with their unjustified ego's.
