Ha ha ha, he's wrong when he says that if you boil the kettle and then let the water cool it's de-ionised, lol. De-ionised water is free from any metals in the water, and is the same thing you use for a car battery. A better option would be to use a Brita water filter to filter the wat if you have one.
hey man i have just bought a 20 dollar smoke macine from a pawn broker it said on it pipes need cleaning but i have just run a whole tank full of water and vinegar and it still has that sound like it has nothing to pump through any suggestions
i have right now 3 machine that i use for every Halloween and i have never cleaned them am i doing anything wrong to the machine and i have a machine that i bought and i dosn't put out fog why
I was told by a major dealer and manufacturer use proper de-iniosed water from a purchased bottle as it is pure. Tap water into a kettle contains minerals such as lime which causes kettles to get furrwed up and pipes, pipes just like in your smoke machine. So use clean battery grade bottled water - only costs £1 to £2. This will keep machine properly clear.
I did it then when I tried to suck up the fog juice it wouldn't suck it would try but it seems like the pump can't pump it through the pipe help please party very soon
Hi Jonathan, i'm a newbie to smoke machines, i know how it works but I have question. After the gig is over & you used your smoke machine, it's better to empty the machine's pipe & pump, or leave it like that until you're next gig?
i got air in my pipe, how do i get it out? i tried using me fingers to force it though the pipe but the air just stays in the top part of the pipe, if i force the liqurd though it smokes but using the pump, you can hear the pump trying to pump it, but nothing comes out.... gurrrr.... help as i got a party coming up
just watched your video. great tip. i have a Little 400w fog machine the im gussing clogged somewhere. i went ahead and pulled the heater out and cleaned it. i decided to use Throttle body cleaner and an air gun. worked great. yes i know TB cleaner is highly flamable. but that's before it evaporates. i also noticed the tube going from my fluid tank to the pump had a small mesh filter on it. i cleande it the same way ind re installed it. machine works as good as it did the day i got it.
any idea on what the range is on the remote for that smoke machine? looking at getting the kam ksm 1100 but im gonna be a good distance away from the machine (booth logistics \ space)
Boiled water is distilled water not de-ionised. De-ionised is made using an ion exchange resin not a kettle. You can get de-ionised water from Halfords (used to top up car batteries).
can u use distilled or iodised water and i hav been told to use cold water and vinegar and run that through the system untill the tank is half empty would this work please get bak to me on all of these ?`s i really need some help on this thank you
you can also buy an acid product, this does the same job but it has no chance of damageing the inside. it can be placed straight into the machine without clearing the pipe first. it does cost more thn this idea but reduces the risk of injury. it is also reusable and it doesnt vapourise, it comes out the nozzle as liquid
You can get deionised water from a car spares centre such as Halfords as its used to top up car batteries. They sell it in 1 litre bottles for a few quid. As someone said earlier, boiled water is distilled not deionised.
You need distilled water which is basically pure water. Pure water wont rust out the guts as there is no contaminants that will start the rusting process. You can buy this in the shops, house wives use it in their irons to make them last longer.
Water which you have boiled in a kettle and then allowed to cool is NOT deionised and is NOT suitable for use. All of the ions are still dissolved in the water - in actual fact you will simply increase the concentration of ions due to some of the water evaporating. All you have done is killed off most of any bacteria in the water. To de-ionise water you must pass it through an ion exchanger. Perhaps you were thinking about distilled water, but you still need to actually distill the water.
Depends on what your block is made out of, Acetic acid (vinegar) is a strong solvent when it is hot. However it has a tendency to eat away at certain metals (tin and aluminum are vulnerable to it). Vinegar will do a good job at cleaning a machine but i wouldnt suggest using it offten. I also suggest running about 8oz of distilled water after using vinegar.
@Lokivoid Good advice, I'm a Chem E - after you run either vinegar or citric acid (do not use any stronger acids) through your unit follow it with 8oz deionized water (you can buy this from most grocers). By the way boiling water in a kettle does NOT produce deionized water - it produces boiled water that is more concentrated in dissolved salts that may end up blocking your unit - therefore do buy DI water from your grocer - it's pretty cheap.
I have a new Chauvet 1700 fogger and only used it 3 or 4 times. It shoots the fog out of the nozzle but all of it is not fog some is a liquid. So it spills on the floor and there is fog liquid on the floor, which is VERY dangerous I Plan on attempting your cleaning method when i get home. Do you have any other suggestions ? Like i said its damn near brand new
If you're in the states and don't want to boil your own, look in a grocery store for "Distilled" water. Distilled water is water that's boiled into steam and condensed back to water so it's free of impurities. You should be able to find it in drug stores and supermarkets.
Its NEVER a good idea to run the machine dry.. Empty the container of fluid and then refill with de-ionised water and run the machine till steam comes out.
DONT RUN THE PUMP EMPTY - IT WILL DESTROY YOUR MACHINE
to cfmonline, i sort of agree, but you need to get rid of all the Smoke fluid to get clean water through the pipe, so only one second of nothing in the pipe is fine. This way you will only get water and not a mixture . j

macmitchdog, why do they call them smoke machines then?
Chazyorkshire 1 year ago
@Chazyorkshire They call them smoke machines because the effect they give is similar to smoke. it is actually a vapor/aerosol.

you can also use 50% distilled water and 50% clear vinegar, the vinegar breaks down all the build up in the pipes. especially if you use fragrance

I do this but I also clear the hole in the nozzle with the cleaning pin thing that came with the machine (Martin Magnum 550).

Once with water and once with some 50/50 water and vinegar solution

this could be down to the heating element not being hot enough , and so in turn the fluid is not condensing enough. j
