Just watched the spanish version. After so many good reviews I must say I'm utterly disappointed by it. Pretty average but certainly looks much better than it really is because there's rarely any good horror film lately.

I just saw the original last night, and having seen Quarantine first, I feel that Rec explains alot more of the cause of the viral spread, and the ending is much creepier. But Quarantine has a better set/apartment building, and the camera kill scene. Rec has much creepier sounding rabies ppl tho....

[REC] was made prior to Quarantine and is amply better. When America tries to remake foreign films, the result is...well...Quarantine, i.e. TERRIBLE! [REC] is an amazingly creepy movie. If you hate subtitles, I would still suggest it to you. Its worth it a hundred times over.

Some famous hollywood movies have been remakes of foreign films and they worked such as Magnificent Seven, Star Wars (Sci-fi version of Hidden Fortress), Three Men and a Baby, Let Me In, Fatal Attraction, The Departed, Fistful of Dollars (Italian/US/Spanish version of Yojimbo) etc.
