@jdrummys dont have pride. dont have ego, have some love... thats what her whole generation was about. no pride, but heart... and they were right. they still are right. but you can't get that can you.
She does NOT look 72. she could cut her hair & lightly dye it maybe & get on a fitness program & could make herself become a heatlthy attractive woman again, IF she wanted to.
She is still a nice looking woman, beautiful eyes & loverher white greaying long hair! She speaks her mind & hey she's have many life experiences that many of us will never have LOL
@SheChoosesReason Only good enough for graphic novels and comic books. Certainly not for the big canvas. She caricatures very well, however portraiture is another craft entirely.
@speakingTHEtruth4u indeed, their voices are not THAT different as well, Katy seems to have some nice contralto voice hidden behind the stuff her producer makes her sing.
longtime airplane fan...also loved the silly shit in the 80's; Sarah, built this city, Jane....winds of change, nuclear furniture.......she's too hard on herself!!! It wa all fun!
So, so happy she dissed the Starship rubbish. She's far too coooooool to be associated with that rubbish with Someone to Love, White Rabbit and Dreams in her repetoire.
@bibsteenson I've only watched a handful of her interviews on YouTube, but I've found out that she really despises Jefferson Starship. She even calls it "Starshit" instead LOL
@SuperFleetwoodMAC Sorry, but I honestly don't remember what interview. I know I watched it here on YT...yeah, she hates that she was ever part of it.
@madeyes4u She was probably in it for the money and the fad at the time. Then her inner hippie must have realized, "What the hell was I doing?" Especially considering the fact that a large amount of her paintings consist of 60's icons.
I was there through all of that, teeth rotting out, eating from dumpsters and guess what, you poor puffy cynic, I'm still here 59 years later, fasting on apples and dumpster food, singing better than ever. Goddess bless your withered soul. White Rabbit was o.k., that "have you seen the stars tonight" Starship thing was alright. Sheesh.
She's going to be the new Georgia O'Keeffe someday. The survivor. The artist. She sounds quite wise and tough too. Good interview. I love her. There's a new beauty coming from Grace Slick now. She had one of the most recognizable female rock voices ever. She even knows the difference between her musical legend and the music she made later that was junk. Paul Kanter in an earlier interview echoed the same on tunes like "We Built This City." For the Airplane that was drek.
@TheUnofficials6 What's dumb about it? It's the truth. I'm only 45 and I can see you enjoy things (i.e.e are grateful) more when you're older. She's got nothing to bitch about, as well as she's had it. Maybe she's upset she peaked so early, but there IS such a thing as being graceful as you grow old, other than just having your name be grace.
Holy crap her art is really amazing! I had no idea she was a REAL fine artist! Very cool. Love to have a piece but I'm sure the price is as much out of this world as her voice was!
12 years sober? Well, if she's so miserable and pessimistic now then i think she should go back to the bottle. Reaching 70 doesn't automatically give one wisdom. I think she's heading towards being an embittered old fuck. What a shame and what a miserable end for so great a star that she was.
@theclassicrockkid95 They care because they can't fap to her. I agree with you, though. I'm 18, and I realize that people get old. I can always look at her 60's pics if I want to oogle my eyes at her.
@SilverShamrock71 - She will always be cool, but I see a tremendous amount of bitterness there. Addiction destroyed many parts of her life and I know she has had medical issues over the last decade or so, but her attitude about old people "they should be heard and not seen," is just sad. How many musicians out there are her age (or older) and still performing meaningful, celebrated music?
@mg196 Her "They should be heard and not seen" quote is indeed a sad line, BUT I do agree with her, in regards to musicians. It's fucking ridiculous to see these old musicians still trying to hang on to the past & show how they still "got it!". So, I gotta say that she does have a solid point.
And she's not bitter, she's just cynical in humor. Come on, we're fans of Grace Slick & we should already know that about her...
@mg196 Yeah, I must say Paul McCartney still rocks it at his age. And despite their lackluster studio output now, the Rolling Stones still have amazing incredible energy when they play live.
Anyone who comments on someone else's looks should take a look in the mirror and quit being so superficial. So what if she gained weight?? Unless you're Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, then don't judge people by the way they look.
Her expressively minimalist drawings of the nude posterior at 1:42-1:52 evoke (and are the calibre of) Pablo Picasso's. And like him her art explores a span of schools.
I SO wish I could afford some of her art. I would be satisfied if she published a book that contained it all, that I could probably afford. How wonderful it would be to browse through when one's spirits needed uplifting. (I too, especially love the rabbits and the Alice in Wonderland paintings. Plus, if you know anything about artists, having so many styles is amazing in and of itself. She can do anything from illustrative to primitive art, and does it all well.
She still has those amazing eyes. I would have recognized her anywhere! And, for those of you saying she seems 'bitter', she's not really. It's simply people insisting on comparing how she looks now to how she looked back then. Get a clue. They don't say 'getting old isn't for wimps' for no reason. It's actually hard. And, sad. There are probably few people over the age of 50 who don't get a bit angry over what we feel time has 'stolen' from us. It's all part of life, for better or worse.
Wow, she's turned into a grumpy old woman. Get over the self-pity already. Maybe her attitude is why people and fans have lost interest in her, not her advancing age as she wants to believe. A great talent has morphed into a bitter old lady.
you right grace people getting old but they are still the same persons, you are still lokking good and kicking ass!!!,i understand you don't want any more to sing but we can always enjoy your sweet voice from the past, now you got all your talent and emotions from music to painting and that's o.k,beatiful paintings bringing back memories although i don't have them 'cause i'm only 40, but anyway you are still godess and i love you!!
I think it's funny how she hates the starship material, which like it or not, was incredibly commercially successful. That period made the band a LOT of money. While she may have hated performing it, I am sure she doesn't hate the royalty checks from that period.
Dear ZXatoichiBlindSword -- maybe when one gets older you realise what you can't change. But heck - she tried hard to help make it change & had some serious fun along the way. And its a helluva way from the early '60's to the early 20-teens !
True, she may be getting old, but look in her eyes; it's all still there: the fire, the independence, the defiance, the brutal honesty, the razor wit. They should bottle the essence Grace Slick and sell it. :)
Grace is too real, which is why certain people can't handle her. She tells it like it is (yes, there ARE people who want others simply for sex or money or to advance their careers. That's human nature). If it were possible, I like her even more because of this. Thanks for posting!
No, Grace, there are many people who don't want others simply for money, sex or to help their career. You believe that because that's the way you think. Archie Bunker, that's what you unwittingly became in life and deservedly so, don't you think?
@thethoughtsofme Those are usually those most commonly qualities people look for. And she was probably downing herself again as she is old & feels nobody wants her.
Grace Slick may have become an artist, but there are still many fans who would love for her to return to the recording studio and release more music. She has an incredible voice!
@ZatoichiBlindSword many people are natural pessimists. And I for one can tell you that some very wise stuff comes from being a pessimist. I think its funny and real and we need more REALITY now than the shadowed , drugged out , cluelessness that we once had in this country. ,,,being funny is awesome. Nothin wrong with humor. God bless her xx
I love her. She's wiser but she has that rock and roll soul still simmering. She's hot in a new way now. I could listen to her talk all day. I knew years ago that she and Kanter hated those commercial tunes in the latter part of their career. Songs that should never be mentioned in the same breath as "Somebody To Love," and "White Rabbit." Wearing the key in her ear -- that's a cool grandmother. God bless you Grace Slick...
i don't care what she says she should look good , she should have watched her weight and dye her hair. she still looks good in the face and beautiful eyes. i saw her about 10 years in her vh1 behind the music she still looked good there..
She is STILL an amazing person regardless of how she looks which is irrelevant to her talent. To me she is beautiful because she has always been true to herself and not taken any bullshit. She rocks and always will in my eyes :)
I never realised she was such a good artist. Beautiful work. I haven't seen or heard of Grace since around 1987 when she was with Starship. Can't believe that is the same woman, no disrespect though I look just as old. I thought I'd always be 25 but I couldn't do it. Think about that young people, we all get old and it catches you when you're not looking.
@ioriorioriorio she still drinks booze and smokes cig.s like a fiend. She is still smart and outspoken but as a painter she is sadly mediocre. However she has lived through a lot and can tell the tale.
This was a real treat. One of the wonderful things that remains stronger than ever is Grace's sense of humor. I always loved that quality in her (like in the tounge-in-cheek song about cannibalism from the "Sunfighter" album -- "Silver Spoon", to name one of many such songs of hers that were humorous, as well as the intense and/or protest works). Like the rest of us, she is older, but I think she's holding up really well. Such a cutie/sweetie then . . . and now!
"...I dont like 'Nothings gonna stop us now' cuz I can stop you with a great big truck." LOL!! She is so friggin cool. Amazing how shes a few years younger than my grandmother. Wow. ♥
testerz123456...you are a moron. I am willing to bet you are somewhere between 12 and 20. Stupid?????? One of the smartest people you could ever meet. She may be 'fat' now but she doesn't give a flyin' fuck, and neither should you if you weren't so superficial. BTW she had great GREAT fuckin voice..one of the best EVER! Better than any of those twats that you hear today. Have YOU sung in front of half a million people? Are you a model (she was!) How well is your art selling? Dumb fuck!
@testerz123456 So what do you have to contribute to life except mean critizism? Grow up punk. What do you think you will look like when you are over 70?....if you even make it that far. You do not need to reply...I really don't care what you have to say.
I had no idea the girl from Jefferson Airplane was the same woman in Starship....heck what a dissapointment!.....but the fact she hated the Starship songs, gives me back some hope in human kind!! ....what a great lady!!
How embarrassing to have to tolerate an introduction like that -
Two plasic TV dorks - pathetic creatures with big paychecks, no inner identity, and a combined IQ lower than a temperature reading on a thermometer in Alaska on Christmas Day.
@7855waldo Those "pathetic 'plastic' dorks" you refer to are at least 3 dimensional. You, on the other hand. are only a carbon copy of an antiquated ideal that can only be 2 dimensional. Please reply and I'll be sure that CBS sends you a tax deductible donation to your "cause".
Grace was always amazing and still is ... I am sure she saw it all and could tell stories that we have not heard yet ... I wanted to hump her to death in the 60's, now I want to sit and listen to her tell her tales ... She and I got old at the same time ... That doesn't trouble me either.
the more i learn about this fasinating woman the more i fall in love with her ha ha but im 50 years late:(... wow thats thats half a century huh but still shining in its greatest potential love the sixties
Attended her art opening three years ago in N.Virginia. Purchased one of her colorful self portraits.Got to sit down w/ her for a few minutes while she wrote a personal message on the back..as well as graciously signing some of my Airplane memorabilia. She looks like a granny now but still has those beautiful intense eyes, and a razor sharp wit. After the show she hung around awhile to gab w/ anyone who stuck around.Great lady.
Gracie is finally, after decades, starting to make some sense.

Marty Balin and Grace Slick were just Sonny and Cher wannabes, and really lousy ones at that.
Who the hell is this ugly, fat old lady with the goiter?
FuckngBastard 1 year ago

I still wish I'd seen Woodstock though :)

Well, you could lose weight and stop smoking.

@EdgeCrush1075 What's the point? Maybe if she was 20, but at 70? If it isn't going to make her feel any better than why bother.

She has still got her marbles...but also those beautiful eyes!

I'd give anything just to meet her, I love you Grace............

Such a cutie/sweetie then . . . and now!

testerz123456...you are a moron.

How embarrassing to have to tolerate an introduction like that -
Two plasic TV dorks - pathetic creatures with big paychecks, no inner identity, and a combined IQ lower than a temperature reading on a thermometer in Alaska on Christmas Day.
7855waldo 1 year ago
