Exactly it wasn't the smoothest ride for me either . I was on my way back to the cottage in this video. I was coming from Cochrane going to North Bay. And now the ONR is looking into possibly purchasing by levels from GO to use on the Northlander! Ya right I don't even give those cars a week before a major derailment happens. Those cars are meant and built for welded rail and concrete ties not rickety old un maintained track.
bilevels ! what a load of dung that would be ! the train isn't full enough for 2 coaches and a cafateria car - why would they use a bilevel ? sounds dumb to me !
ACR got some old VIA coaches that went state side for a while but came back, maybe ONR should get some or borrow VIA cars with Can-Car trucks !
the carman from the N.B. shops said that when the cars get another rebuild, they'll be fitted with better trucks !
I should say that riding in 612 was a lot smoother than 703 ! On March 31st 2009 the SB train was 1805, 202, 612, 601 & 703 ! 612 was quiet & smooth, but jerky !
601 was 3/4 full and stunk, 703 was loud, bumpy, grindy, jerky, rough and diesel fume smelling !

It was funny I sat in the snack car most of the way back on this trip talking to the woman who worked behind the counter and drinking free coffee lol, I had an ON Rail hat on and she thought I was an employeee , who was I to say no. lol. Yep the ONR is looking at the bi levels and who knows if the ONR gets their was you might see Northlander service in the SOO!

Toronto to Sudbury on the CP, then Sudbury to SSM on the HCR. that would be neat ! ONR will probably restore Northlander service to Timmins before they go to SSM !
the ride up was boring, that was the nastiest crew ever ! the OBS guy was a jerk - putting everyone in the 2nd coach, and that blonde little twit in the cafe was a bitch - she wouldn't let film form the tail end ! the cafe guy going down didn't say anything, he was actually quite friendly and social as was the young OBS guy !
My biggest problem was that I smoke and the conductor that day was a smoker too, So about every half hour I would see him walk by me and on this day we had a 5 car consist and the first 2 cars were deadheading. I was in the third car and in this video you will hear me say A little bumpy eh that was me talking to the conductor as he was going up front or the next coach for a smoke! I asked the next time could I join him of course the answer was no. SO I used the washroom to smoke Fuck em I said!
Ya lol, Well in the washroom they have a vent that when you put your hand to it feels almost like a vacuum . That was perfect for me this way the smoke would be literally sucked out. It was cool lol
I wish the ONR had a east/west route between Huntsville and Ottawa.

I rode the Northlander between North Bay & Huntsville and back, and it was the bumpiest train coach ride ever !
riding 1808 was smoother !
these coaches weren't built for those tracks other than the corridor in Toronto !

the SB crew from March 31st said that between Washago and Toronto is a bit smoother than the rest of the trip !
CN don't care about the NMKT sub ! it isn't a profitable line for them !
the BALA sub is ! only because it's the transcontinental track !

cool ! I used the front washroom in the front car and it was hotter than hell in it !
the heater wouldn't turn off !
so unless one of the hoggers was coming from the units, I finished my work with the door open !
